B How can we stop climate change? How can we stop air pollution? How can we live on a green planet? One way is to use clean energy. Clean energy does not harm the Earth. It never runs out. Energy from the Sun is clean. We just need to learn how to get and store more of it. Plants use energy from the Sun. They use it to turn water and air into sugar. The sugar can be used as food. Scientists know a lot about how plants make food. Some scientists want to get energy from the Sun like plants do. They want to make a machine that can use sunlight to make fuel (燃料) from water. Water is made up of two different parts. Breaking water into its parts is hard. Plants do it all the time, though. It is part of how they make food. With energy from the Sun, the new machine will break water into its parts. One of the parts will be used as fuel. Then the fuel is used to make electricity (电). The electricity can power cars, houses, and so on. This fuel is better for the Earth than gasoline (汽油). It does not pollute the air. Plants can help us learn how to make clean energy! 28. Slowly the boat moved forward, tightening (拉紧) up the ski rope. I held on for dear life to the handle on the end of the rope while Mum looked at me from the back of the boat with a smile that seemed to say, “I believe in you.” I was trying very hard to find my earlier feelings of excitement about learning to waterski. “Whose bright idea was this anyway?” I asked myself nervously. In my bright orange life jacket, I sat in the cool water moving up and down gently. I tried to keep the tips of my water skis pointing up out of the water as I had been shown. A wave of fear washed over me. There were just too many instructions to remember. My little sister Nikki cheered as she jumped up and down in the back of the boat next to Mum. Nikki had learnt to waterski at a very young age. I, on the other hand, always liked underwater sports such as diving. Moving on top of the water was going to be very different for me. But once I mastered (掌握) this, we would have another activity that the whole family could enjoy together. “Deep breath!” I reminded myself. Dad sped up the boat. “Here we go!” I thought wildly. Mum gave me a big thumbs-up, and the boat rushed forward and gave a strong pull. I pushed up on my legs as hard as I could and let out a scream. I was in fact standing on my skis, skimming across the water, but not for long. I fell forward and landed face down in the water. Thank goodness, I remembered to let go of the rope. My skis came off, and my life jacket kept me floating on the surface of the lake. “I don’t believe it,” I thought, turning over to my back with a big smile. “I almost felt like I was flying with wings.” “Let’s do it again.” I called to Dad as he circled the boat around to pick me up. The second time, the boat sped up again. Suddenly, I was flying. The world turned to be silent, broken only by Nikki’s shouts from the boat, “You did it!” Now the lake didn’t scare me anymore. It felt like home. 31. “I” asked the underlined question in paragraph 2 because ________. A. waterskiing was a quite dangerous sport B. my memory of correct instructions was lost C. the choice of waterskiing was completely wrong D. my excitement about waterskiing was turned into fear 32. The keys to my success in mastering waterskiing are ________. ① Nikki’s cheers ② Mom’s encouragement ③ Dad’s patient instructions ④ My courage of keeping trying A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④ 33. Which can be the best title for the story? A. My Waterski Journey B. Let’s Do It Again C. Finding Wings on Water D. Family Fun on the Lake D We know that AI is not a real human. However, it seems many of us can’t help treating it like one. In a survey of 2000 people in the US, 48 percent believed we should have good manners when talking to AI, said The New York Post. Scientists at the Imperial College London in the UK have made a similar discovery recently. They found that humans tend (往往会) to treat AI as human beings, showing sympathy (同情) toward them and even protecting them, Science Daily reported. In their experiment, the scientists invited 244 volunteers to play an online ball game with an AI bot. A make-believe volunteer also took part, and sometimes left out the AI on purpose by passing the ball only to human players. As the scientists watched the game, they discovered that most of the time the volunteers tried to fix the unfairness (不公平) toward the bot by giving it the ball more often. The finding is in line with the ideas of Media Equation Theory, the scientists said in their papers. Developed in the 1990s by scientists at Stanford University in the US, the theory suggests we often reply to media and technology like we do to real people and places, rather than just seeing them as tools. An example is Replika, an AI chatbot created in 2017. It has about 2 million users worldwide. “Your Replika will always be your side no matter what you are up to,” reads its official website. But the AI’s support turned dangerous when it encouraged Jaswant Singh Chail, a young man in the UK, to carry out his plan to kill the Queen of the United Kingdom. Chail tried to do so in December 2021, but he was stopped in time. However, he was still put in prison. Companies should avoid making AI too human-like in their design, advised the scientists at Imperial College London. This can help people tell the difference between virtual and real communication. 34. Which of the following is TRUE based on Media Equation Theory? A. Humans always treat AI as tools. B. Humans often reply to AI as to real people. C. Humans should make AI less human-like. D. Humans tried to fix unfairness in the game. 35. What does the author want to tell us by mentioning “Replika” in the article? A. AI has educational advantages. B. AI can influence humans in some ways. C. AI is designed for some purposes. D. AI can’t be used in social communication. 36. The following sentence can best be put at the end of ________. While this could make humans and AI work better as a team, it also has risks, especially when AI bots are designed to act like “friends” to people. A. Paragraph 2 B. Paragraph 3 C. Paragraph 4 D. Paragraph 5 37. What can be inferred (推断) from the article? A. AI always has bad influence on humans. B. Nearly half of the people in the US treat AI politely. C. Treating AI more carefully is a must for humans. D. Companies won’t make AI as friends any more. 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共50分) 五、词汇运用(本大题共10小题,每小题1分,共10分) (A)根据句意和汉语注释,写出单词的正确形式。 38. I jumped into the water and stood on my skis (滑水板). 【答案】34. B 35. B 36. C 37.
