Have you ever wondered how the remains of ancient animals become fossils? It is a long and slow process. Here is how it happens. After an animal dies, its body usually rots (腐烂) away or is eaten by other animals. But if the remains are quickly covered and kept safe from weather and hungry animals, the fossil-forming process can begin. Over time, sand and soil cover the animal’s body. Any remaining soft parts of the body, such as skin, then rot away, leaving only the hard bones. At this point, the remains are only partly fossilized. As sea levels rise and the ground changes, the animal’s body is buried (掩埋) deeper underground. The earth around it becomes hard under great pressure (压力). Slowly, the bones disappear and leave nothing but an empty space. Over a very long time, this cavity is slowly filled with hard materials from the ground. These hard materials take the place of the old bones. As the land changes again, the fossil moves closer to the surface. Finally, it may be found by people. 6. According to the passage, what is the first step in the fossil-forming process? A. The animal’s bones will disappear over time. B. The animal’s soft parts, such as skin, rot away. C. The animal’s body is quickly covered and protected. D. The animal goes deep underground by rising sea levels. 7. What does the underlined word “cavity” most likely mean? A. A soft part of the body. B. An empty hole or space. C. A pile of sand and soil. D. A material from the ground. 8. Why are fossils rare according to the passage? A. Most animals die in places where they cannot be easily found. B. The forming process requires certain conditions and a long time. C. Sea levels rarely rise enough to bury animal remains underground. D. Hard materials from the ground can fill the holes quickly enough. 二、语篇理解与推理 (共12小题;每小题2分,满分24分) 阅读以下语篇,完成第29-32小题 International E-waste Day takes place every year on October 14. It’s a day to draw people’s attention to the problems of electronic (电子的) waste. In 2023, it called on people to care about “invisible” e-waste—things most people don’t think of as electronics. Electronic waste, or e-waste, is the name given to old electronic devices (设备) that get thrown away. These can include old computers, phones, TVs, as well as all kinds of other electronic devices. E-waste is a big problem. Though electronics can make life easier and more pleasant, the devices aren’t easy on the environment. As newer and better devices come out, lots of electronics are thrown away instead of being recycled. These things often end up in landfills, while the chemicals inside them may be a danger to the environment. Electronics can have dangerous materials like lead (铅) or mercury (汞). If these materials get into the ground or water, the pollution can cause serious problems. A group known as WEEE asked researchers from the United Nations to study a kind of e-waste that was often not noticed. The WEEE calls this type “invisible” e-waste. The UN study shows that all the 61 million tons of e-waste in a year, about 1/6 is “invisible”, and that the value of this unseen waste is worth about $ 9.5 billion a year. The surprising type leading the invisible e-waste group is toys. Worldwide, about 7.3 billion electronic toys are thrown away each year. These include toys like car racing sets, electric trains, musical toys and so on. In all, toys make up about 35% of the invisible e-waste. But the problem is far larger than just toys. The UN report shows that other everyday things like home alarms, smoke alarms, power tools are also big sources of invisible e-waste. The report says that 36% of the world’s invisible e-waste comes from these types. Nowadays, more and more people get to know about the harm of e-waste, and they will devote more to getting electronics reused or recycled. 9. Why is e-waste a big problem? A. Because it’s difficult to collect it. B. Because it’s too bad for the environment. C. Because it takes up too much space. D. Because it costs people too much money. 10. How many tons of invisible e-waste are there in a year? A. About 7.3 million tons. B. About 60 million tons. C. About 6 million tons. D. About 10 million tons. 11. What can we learn from the passage? A. Few people will pay attention to invisible e-waste. B. More invisible e-waste will be thrown away everywhere. C. More landfills will be built to deal with invisible e-waste. D. More actions will be taken to reduce the harm of e-waste. 12. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To draw attention to invisible e-waste. B. To explain the meaning of invisible e-waste. C. To ask people to use fewer. D. To tell the purpose of International E-Waste. 阅读以下语篇,完成第33-36小题 ①Sitting through a family dinner, your uncle suddenly starts talking about different topics like an expert. But everything he knows is from TikTok. After exams, one classmate is sure to do well. But he ends up with far-lower marks than expected. Sounds familiar? This kind of behavior is called the Dunning-Kruger effect. ②In 1995, a man named Wheeler robbed a bank with lemon juice on his face. He believed it would make him not be seen. This story inspired two psychologists (心理学家) David Dunning and Justin Kruger to do some experiments. They asked people to tell how well they did in certain tasks. The results showed people with poor skills often thought they did much better than they actually did. They failed to see their own shortcomings, which made them too confident. ③Later, people used a simple graph (图表) to show this effect. It clearly tells us the link between our actual knowledge and our self-confidence. When we know very little about something, our confidence rises to a quite high point. We may even believe we know everything. Digging deeper, we begin to realize how difficult the topic truly is and our confidence drops. At this point, we start questioning ourselves. Only when we keep learning can our ability and confidences rise in a healthy way. ④This is not just a psychological phenomenon (现象) for strangers or uncles at dinner—it is a mistake that everyone may easily fall into. Have you ever laughed at your classmates’ mistakes without realizing your own? Have you ever turned a deaf ear to others’ advice because you thought you knew better? Have you ever felt fully prepared, only to be shocked by the final result? If so, you are having it too. ⑤Dear graduates of 2026, as you are stepping into senior high and then a wider world, remember that real growth lies in the courage to be modest (谦虚). Always remember to learn, feel, and listen, and you will surely shine brighter in the years ahead. 13. Which sentence might be said by the uncle in Paragraph ①? A. “I’m not sure. You’d better go and ask a teacher about this.” B. “Oranges are good for the skin? Let’s check more articles.” C. “This accident has many causes. I may not know the truth.” D. “This war would end fast if they just listened to me.” 14. What do the experiments by Dunning and Kruger show? A. Most people can see their shortcomings, more or less. B. Less skilled people often think highly of themselves. C. A person can tell how well he or she finishes a task. D. Lemon juice doesn’t work for hiding people’s bodies. 15. Who is most likely to be at Point D in the graph? A. A student who is beating self-doubt step by step with hard work. B. A person who feels super confident after taking the first driving lesson. C. A math teacher who feels very lost in the beginning of his teaching. D. An experienced doctor who keeps learning for many years at work. 16. Which of the following can be put in the third box of the structure? A. Listing more results. B. Sharing scientific facts. C. Connecting with readers. D. Discussing different ideas 阅读以下语篇,完成第37-40小题 One night when they were near Treasure Island, Jim wanted an apple from the large barrel (桶) on the deck. She spends hours every day checking likes and comments. When she sees her friends’ posts about perfect grades, exciting trips, or new clothes, she often feels unhappy with her own life. She thinks everyone else is happier and more successful than she is. This feeling, known as “peer pressure” from the online world, makes her anxious and lowers her self-esteem. She even starts to doubt her own abilities and becomes less confident in daily life. One day, Lily’s school counselor, Ms. Green, noticed her change in mood. Instead of telling her to stop using social media completely, Ms. Green had a deep talk with her. She explained that people usually only share the best parts of their lives online, not the struggles. For example, a friend who posted about a great trip might have faced many difficulties during the journey but chose not to show them. Ms. Green also advised Lily to focus on her own real-life achievements and hobbies, like painting, which she truly enjoys. Lily realized that comparing herself to others was the root of her problem. She decided to make a change. Now, she is trying to spend less time on social media and more time on things that make her happy in real life. She has also started to post more about her own painting works instead of just liking others’ posts. Slowly, she begins to feel better about herself. 51.
