Unit4 Our Memory Section A(3a-3d) 教学设计-2026-2027学年人教版英语九年级上册
Unit 4 Our Memory
Section A 3a-3d
I. Teaching Aims
1. Students can read the conversation between Rick and Chen Jie and complete the table about what their family members forget and remember.
2. Students can grasp the main idea: some old people’s memory gets worse as they grow older, so we should be patient with them and remember what they still remember.
3. Students can talk about a happy memory of their own family in simple English and try to express feelings by stressing key words.
II. Key and Difficult Points
Key points: The new words and expressions such as keep calling me Johnny, save them for, a good sign, go through, keep in mind and as they get older; and reading the conversation to finish the table in 3a.
Difficult points: Understanding what Chen Jie means by “keep in mind what he remembers”, and using stress to show feelings when speaking.
III. Teaching Tools
The students’ book (p.34), the blackboard and coloured pens, word cards for the new expressions, a printed copy of the 3a table, and a recorder or computer for the listening part.
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 mins)
1. The teacher asks: “Do you remember anything about your grandparents? Is their memory as good as before?” Let two or three students answer.

2. The teacher shows the picture of Rick and writes the topic on the blackboard: looking after old family members.
[Purpose] To bring up the topic of memory and old people, and to get students ready for the reading.
Step 2: Pre-reading (3 mins)
1. The teacher asks students to look at the title and picture in 3a and guess: Why does Rick look worried?
2. Students guess in their own words before reading.
[Purpose] To help students predict the content and read with a clear purpose.
Step 3: While-reading (12 mins)
1. Students read the conversation by themselves and underline what Rick’s grandma forgets and what she still remembers.
2. Students work in pairs to find the same information about Chen Jie’s grandpa.
3. The teacher checks the answers and finishes the table in 3a on the blackboard together with the class.
[Purpose] To train students in reading for detail and in getting key information from a conversation.
Step 4: Post-reading (8 mins)
1. The teacher asks the question in 3b: What does “keep in mind what he remembers” mean? Students discuss in pairs and give their ideas.
2. The teacher asks why happy memories are important, and lets students say a short sentence about it.
