In recent years, a special “eco-friendly bus” has appeared on the streets of some Chinese cities. This bus doesn’t carry people — it carries waste! It is called the “Garbage Sorting Bus”, and its job is to help communities sort their household waste correctly.
The bus travels through different neighborhoods on a fixed schedule. When it arrives, volunteers get on board to teach residents (居民) how to separate dry waste, wet waste, recyclables, and harmful waste. There are interactive (互动的) games on the bus to make learning fun. For example, children can throw model garbage into the right bins and win small prizes.
The idea was first tested in Shanghai and proved to be very successful. Many residents said they found it much easier to understand the rules of garbage sorting after joining in the activities on the bus. Some even started to teach their friends and family.
Now, more cities are planning to introduce similar buses. Environmental experts believe that this creative way of education can greatly improve people’s awareness of protecting the environment. Ieoh Ming Pei is a Chinese-American architect (建筑师) known as the master of modern architecture. He won many important awards in architecture. During Ming Dynasty, his family moved to Suzhou — then the centre of economy and culture in China. They became rich through the sale of medical herbs. Pei spent his holidays there visiting many gardens and family shrines (宗祠). He loved the interesting rocks, stone bridges and waterfalls.
Pei moved with his family to Shanghai at the age of ten. The city’s international architectural styles had a lasting influence on him, from the Bund (外滩) to the Park Hotel. His interest in architecture was developing.
Pei enjoyed watching American films and it was through this that he decided to move to the United States to study architecture. In 1942, he got married. Under his wife’s influence, he changed from another university to Harvard to study architecture. There he was given the chance to study modern architecture. Later, he set up his own company called I. ①Modern technology has made it easier for common people to rent things or services to others. With the click of an app, we can find almost anything. It could be a new dress to wear on the weekend, or someone to clean your house. This is the sharing economy, and it is now a money-making $20 billion-a-year business. But some people are now asking: Just how good is it for society in general?
②Not long ago, when people went on vacation, they usually stayed in a hotel. Today they have the choice of staying in someone’s private house. They pay less, but what influence does this have on the hotel industry and the wider economy? Hotels receive fewer guests, but they still have to pay salaries (工资) to their workers and money to the government. Many people who rent out private rooms do not. So the government gets less money and some hotels might even close down.
③Then there are car-sharing sites. Instead of using your own car for a long trip, you can get a ride with someone for a small fee. Some people argue this is better for the environment, since fewer cars on the roads means less pollution. But how many people choose to use these sites rather than taking the bus or the train? Public transportation is, after all, much kinder to the environment than cars.
④Many sites offer cooking services. Instead of going to a restaurant, you can use an app to order dishes from people in your neighborhood.
⑤There is even a site where you can buy leftover food that people haven’t eaten! This is sure to save your time and money. But is it risky? Can you trust the people cooking your food? Restaurants have to follow strict regulations to make sure their food is safe to eat.
⑥There is no doubt that the sharing economy is growing. Some economists think it will be worth $335 billion by 2025. As new technology makes sharing food, places to stay, and transportation easier all the time, the question of “Is it fair?” will remain.
27. Which example about sharing economy is introduced in Paragraph 2?
A. Getting a ride with someone for a small fee.
B. Buying a new dress on Taobao to pay less.
C. Staying in someone’s private house for less pay.
D. Ordering dishes from neighbors to save money.
28. What does the underlined word “regulations” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Notes. B. Plans. C. Suggestions. D. Rules.
29. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 6 refer to?
A. A private house. B. The sharing economy.
C. A food-selling site. D. Public transportation.
30. How is the text organized?
A. B. C. D.

33 Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smartphones. And now these things are necessary and we can’t imagine living without them! However, technology often means we spend more time at home. And often it’s just us, with our computer or television. Teenagers don’t do enough exercise. 34 And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don’t have so many social things as they did in the past.
A. And it was too big for me.
B. Or your friends’ bikes are better than yours.
C. So they aren’t as healthy as they were in the past.
D. Technology is probably the greatest change in our life.
E. It makes their lives not so boring.
