good enough for Shayden."They're not my friends anymore because they're bullies,"
the boy explained. The two continued a brief conversation about whether Ray had
children of his own that Shayden could play with. However,Ray's daughter was just
a baby,he told the boy.

Start reading recent internet conversations about Al,and you'll find a topic
that surfaces with increasing frequency:ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical
advice.
"Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my
legs,"begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New
York. After an exchange with ChatGPT,it told her,"You need immediate evaluation
for pessible bleeding risk.""What followed was a terrible three-day experience that
got increasingly scary,"says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare
autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in
time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness
advice, according to its maker,OpenAI.In early January, the company announced
the launch of a new platferm,ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced
security for sharing medical records and data.It joins other Al tools such as My
Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Many patients describe using different AI plafforms to help with daily
mnanagement of health as a complement (to advice from medical professionals.
Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage symptoms and treatment for the
cancer he's been diagnosed with.He frequently shows AI test results and asks it to
translate them into comprehensible English.Rosen says AI has changed the
relationship he has with his doctor."When I go into a doctor's appointment,I no
longer need him to explain much to me,"he says."My doctor's appointment is
5
much more of an action-planning session."
Of course,AI is not a replacement for a doctor.Doctors say that without
clinical oversight(监督),misdiagnosis,misleading advice,or human
misunderstanding are significant problems.Despite these hazards, they are
optimistic about the contributions Al can make to health care and believes the
benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers,if they don't already.
28.What does Bethany Crystal's case in paragraph 2 indicate?
A.The popularity of ChatGPT.
B.The value of AI-aided medical diagnosis.
C.The lack of medical knowledge.
D.The significance of regular checkups.

A.It has 100 million registered users.
B.It provides better health care than doctors.
C.Its users'privacy is better protected.
D.It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend.
30.What impact has AI brought to Rosen?
A.It improves the cure rate for his disease.
B.It changes the way he communicates with his doctor.
C.It offers him real-time translation at the doctor's.
D.It reduces his trust in medical personnel.
31.What does the underlined word"hazards"in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Virtues.
B.Reminders.C.Signs.
D.Risks.

For thousands of years, human beings have relied on seeds and farmland to
grow food.Ploughing ()also known as tilling,is the process of turning over
soil to bury weeds, loosen the earth and bring fresh nutrients to the surface. But
ploughing, particularly over long periods, can erode (the soil and make it less
healthy.This is where conservation-focused farming methods,including no-till
farming,come in.
Conventional farming involves sowing a crop into ploughed soil.Ploughing
kills weeds that compete with crops for resources, such as water. It also buries weeds
and dead plant material deep into the ground, where they are then broken down by
bacteria and fungi.
But herbicides, which are chemicals sprayed (to kill weeds, became much
cheaper to buy from the mid-20th century. This allowed farmers to kill weeds
without cultivating the soil. And it paved the way for the no-till farming movement.
Put simply,no-till farming is farming without disturbing the soil.It gained
6
popularity in the 1950s and 1960s as more people learnt of its potential benefits.
These include:limiting soil erosion, keeping soil moisture ()protecting the
large holes in the soil, and reducing our reliance on machinery such as disc ploughs
and rotary hoes, and the fossil fuels needed to operate them.
Supporters of no-till farming claim it boosts the amount of beneficial
organisms and nutrients in the soil. They also say no-till farming improves water
quality, reduces the risk of pests and diseases, and increases farmers'income.
However, there is a darker side to no-till farming.No-till farmers must use
much more chemicals to destroy weeds that would otherwise be killed by tilling.
Research has linked these chemicals with higher rates of cancer, birth defects,
infertility and other medical conditions. In addition, research shows soils that
haven't been ploughed contain about 5%less stored carbon than
conventionally-farmed soils.Even if no-till farming is better for the environment,it
may not produce the yields farmers need to earn an income. One international
meta-analysis found farmers'crop yields fell by about 5%,one to two years after
switching from conventional to no-till practices.
32.What can we learn about ploughing?
A.It hardens the soil.
B.It is double-edged
C.It is conservation-focused.
D.It improves soil moisture.
33.What is a result of no-till farming according to the text?
A.Fewer weeds.
B.More stored carbon.
C.More soil erosion.
D.Poorer crop harvests.
34.What is the author's attitude to no-till farming?
A.Critical.B.Uncaring.C.Favourable.
D.Objective.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Modern Farming:Less Work,More Profit?
B.Healthy Soil:The Key to More Produce
C.No-Till Farming:A Better Choice?
D.Weed Control:A New Challenge for Farmers

M:I'm very sorry to keep you waiting.I promise to deliver it to you by 8:10 p.m.
W:What? Were you falling asleep on the way?
M:Of course not.I just met an old lady who got hit by a car and I took her to the
hospital.
W:Hmm...Now I know why you kept me waiting.You're such a warm-hearted
person.
M:I'm terribly sorry again. Thanks for your patience.
8.M:Hi Lydia, you studied in Milan for three years. How did you find the place?
W:Well,I love it.The food, people and everything else are great.
M:Next month I'm traveling to Milan to meet some important customers.Do you
have any suggestions about what to see when I'm there?
W:There are lots of places I could suggest. How long will you be there?
M:Well, the first four days is scheduled for business meetings, and only the last
day is for myself.

W:In that case,I think you should try a group bus tour. It's an excellent way to see
all the main attractions in the city in a short amount of time.
M:Good idea.Do you have more information about it,like how much it costs and
what time it starts?
W:If you visit their official tourism website, you'll find all the information you
need.
M:OK.I will go to check it.
9.W:Many people put on weight due to the lack of exercise.Perhaps their only
activity is playing with their phones
M:I couldn't agree more. Are you fond of sports?
W:Personally,I am really interested in golf, which I think not only improves my
strength,but also my confidence.When I score,I have a great sense of achievement.
What about you,Frank?
M:I'm crazy about sports, such as badminton, jogging, and table tennis.
Badminton left an impression on me,because my father was a badminton player and
he started to teach me when I was 5.Also,in order to keep healthy and reduce stress,I
started playing basketball.I found it really relaxing.
W:Cool, you seem to be quite a master of sports.
M:Well, life lies in exercise.Hopefully,I can become a professional player like
LeBron James one day.
W:As far as I'm concerned,I can further develop my golf skills.
M:I happen to know a few tricks.Maybe I can teach you some if you don't mind.
W:Sure. There is a golf course near here. And after that,we can try the new Italian
restaurant by our company.
M:OK.Let's go.
10.M:Good morning, students.I have an important announcement to make. Our
school is going to hold a"Green Campus"competition next month. The main purpose
of this competition is to encourage everyone to think about how to make our campus
more environmentally friendly. You can share your ideas in the form of a poster,an
essay,or a short video. To join in the competition, you need to fill out an application
form and hand it in to the student office by Friday next week. There is no need to pay
a fee,and a recommendation letter is not required. The winner will get a study tour to
a national nature park during the winter vacation. We hope all of you can take part in
