The world’s longest school holiday, the summer break, has arrived. After months of hard work, students look forward to weeks of free time. In some countries, the break lasts as long as six weeks.
However, some people say six weeks is too long. There are concerns that students forget some of what they have learned during the long break. Yet summer breaks influence more than just education—they also affect family life, tourism and the economy. So, should school summer holidays be shorter?
Yes—a shorter break is better for everyone.
A 2024 report said some pupils find it hard to return to lessons after the long holiday. A shorter summer holiday means more short breaks and a better school year. With more breaks during the year, students and teachers might feel less tired and stressed and parents could plan childcare and their work more easily. This could also reduce school absences, since coughs and colds are more common in autumn, when the weather turns colder. A longer break then would do everyone good. Besides, some children from poor families miss out on free school meals during the summer and miss their friends, too. A long break isn’t right for everyone.
No—the summer holidays are special.
Cutting back the summer holidays would not only disappoint students who love the long break, but also harm the economy, because fewer people would travel in summer. Teachers, too, use the long break to prepare for the upcoming school year. Parents would still spend the same amount of money on childcare—just at different times of the year. Longer autumn breaks would also mean holidays in colder, wetter weather. Most importantly, children don’t stop learning during the summer. It is a time for free play, which develops their imagination, and a chance to travel and visit family.
29. How does the writer show both sides of the idea?
A. By telling a story.
B. By giving examples and reasons for “Yes” and “No”.
C. By asking students to vote.
D. By comparing summer holidays in different countries.
30. How may cutting back the summer holiday help parents according to the “Yes” part?
A. It may help them plan work and childcare better.
B. It may help them spend less on childcare.
C. It may help them travel more with children.
D. It may help them find more fun for children.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to spend summer holidays.
B. Why autumn breaks are best.
C. What kids learn outside school.
D. Whether summer holidays should be shorter.
C
Many teenagers hide their true feelings in daily life. They do not want others to know they are suffering from stress. In a middle‑school survey, over half of the teenagers choose to keep their worries to themselves.
In the past, teenagers could share their feelings with family members or close friends around them. But now many teens spend plenty of time on online social platforms. Bright online posts often make them feel that all their classmates are living a happy life. They fear that if they show their sadness or stress, they will become strange in others’ eyes. So lots of teenagers bury bad feelings deep inside.
However, keeping worries inside is harmful. Stress will build up little by little. That is why school workers encourage teenagers to look for proper ways to express themselves. After class, school counsellors are ready for face‑to‑face talks. Students can also leave messages on the school hotline. Instead of forcing themselves to stay cheerful all the time, teenagers can accept that feeling upset is quite normal.
Some local middle schools have started special sharing activities. In late autumn, students write down their worries on paper notes. If they find one note, they read it and write warm words on it. Then they put it back into the sharing box. In this way, teenagers can feel they are not alone when facing troubles.
32. What can we know from the survey?
A. Few teenagers meet stress in their school life.
B. More than half of the teenagers keep their worries to themselves.
C. All teenagers like to share their trouble with parents.
D. Most teenagers have no close friends to talk with.
33. What makes teenagers afraid of showing their bad feelings?
A. They think they will look strange to other people.
B. Their parents never allow them to show sadness.
C. They believe bad feelings will bring bad luck.
D. They have no time to talk about inner feelings.
34. What is the correct order for the note‑sharing activity?
①Students write their worries down on paper notes.
②Students put notes back into the sharing box.
③Students pick up one note and read its content.
④Students write warm words on the note they read.
A. ①②③④ B. ①③④② C. ③④①② D. ④③①②
35. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. Teenagers must stay cheerful all the time.
B. Keeping worries inside does no harm to teens.
C. Schools offer different ways for teens to express feelings.
D. Note-sharing can solve all teenage problems completely.

It is not very simple and you’ll need another person to help you. Experiment and learn how to use them, and I’ll be back in a week to see how you’re doing. Then, I’ll have another test for you.”
The professor left and Tom opened the box. Inside were two baseball gloves and a ball.
He tried on a glove and picked up the ball, looking at the other glove with a bright smile ...

A)(每空1分),第94题2分
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中第1-8小题的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词,第9小题根据实际情况作答
Personality is what makes each person different. We are born with certain personalities. However, the environment around us also has a big influence. Many people believe that character is fixed, but the environment we live in can change us little by little.
Family is the first environment we experience. Children who grow up in a warm and supportive home often become sure of themselves. When parents listen to their children and encourage them to try new things, kids learn to trust themselves. On the other hand, if a child often fails to catch others’ attention, he or she may become shy and worried. This shows that the way a family treats a child can leave a deep effect on his or her personality.
The school environment matters a lot as well. At school, students meet different teachers and classmates. A friendly classroom can help a teenager become more open and willing to work with others. If a student joins group activities, he or she may learn to wait without getting angry. However,if a teenager is bullied or left out, he or she may become quiet and lose faith in himself or herself.
Friends also shape who we are. Teenagers spend a lot of time with their friends, and they often learn from each other. If a teenager spends time with cheerful and hard-working friends, he or she may become more active and hopeful. But if friends are negative or always break rules, a teenager may pick up bad habits and act in a wrong way. This is why choosing the right friends is important.
Finally, life experiences can change personality too. Moving to a new city, facing difficult problems, or learning about different cultures can make a person more able to stand on their own and understand others. These experiences may be hard at first, but they often help teenagers grow stronger.
In short, the environment may not decide who we are, but it has a powerful influence on shaping who we become. We can choose to face challenges bravely and positively, and in this way we can help shape our own personality.
Environment Shapes Personality
Introduction
Personality is not only decided by ____66____, but also by the environment around us.
Factors
Family
A warm home helps children become ____67____. If children often fail to catch others’ attention, they may feel worried. A child’s personality can be deeply influenced by ____68____ a family treats him or her.
School
A friendly classroom makes teenagers more open and willing to work with others and group activities teach them to wait ____69____. In fact, the school environment can ____70____ build or break a young person’s character.
Friends
Cheerful friends may encourage a teenager ____71____ negative friends may lead one to act wrongly. Choosing the right friends really matters.
Life
experiences
Moving to a new city, facing difficult problems, or learning about different ____72____ can make a person more able to stand on their own and understand others.
Conclusion
The environment may not decide us, but it plays an important ____73____ in who we become. We can choose to meet challenges in a brave and positive way and this can help us form our own personality.
How has the environment influenced your personality? Explain with your own experience.

【答案】29. B 30. A 31. D

【31题详解】
根据文章第2段“So, should school summer holidays be shorter?”,且全文围绕该问题从正反两方面展开讨论可知,文章核心是探讨暑假是否应该缩短。

【答案】32. B 33. A 34. B 35. C

A)(每空1分),第94题2分
