Unit 8 Let’s Communicate! Section A (1a-1d) 一、Teaching Aims 1. Students can match the phrases about communication methods (talk face to face, send text messages, make a video call, send emails, use sign language, make a phone call) with pictures and understand their meanings. 2. Students can listen to two conversations and complete the table about how the speakers communicate and what their relationships are. 3. Students can answer listening comprehension questions about the two conversations, such as "When will the rehearsal end?" and "Where is the girl now?" 4. Students can make up a conversation about inviting a friend from the UK to visit China, using "will" and "if" clauses correctly. 二、Key and Difficult Points 1. Key points: (1) Vocabulary and phrases about communication methods: talk face to face, send text messages, make a video call, send emails, use sign language, make a phone call; (2) The future tense "will" in conversations; (3) The "if" conditional sentence pattern: If you come to my city/town, I'll show you around. / If I go there, I'll try all the delicious local food. 2. Difficult points: (1) Using "will" correctly in spoken conversations, especially in short answers (Yes, I will. / No, I won't.); (2) Understanding specific details in listening tasks (time, place, relationship); (3) Making up a natural and coherent conversation about inviting a friend. 三、Teaching Tools Textbook (Unit 8, p.72), blackboard and colored markers, picture cards of communication methods (phone, video call, email, text message, sign language, face-to-face talk), audio recording and player, worksheet for 1b table, PPT (optional). 四、Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warm-up and Lead-in (5 mins) 1. The teacher greets the students and asks: "How do you usually communicate with your friends? Do you call them, send messages, or meet them in person?" Students share freely. 2. The teacher shows pictures of different communication methods (making a phone call, sending text messages, making a video call, sending emails, using sign language, talking face to face) and introduces the new phrases. 3. The teacher writes the unit title "Let's Communicate!" on the blackboard and leads students to predict what the unit will be about. [Purpose] To activate students' background knowledge about communication and introduce the topic of this unit. Step 2: 1a - Match Phrases with Pictures (8 mins) 1. (4) What will the man do if he visits China this year? 2. The teacher plays the recording a second time. Students listen and write down their answers. 3. Students check answers in pairs, then the teacher checks with the whole class. The teacher highlights the use of "will" in the questions and answers. [Purpose] To further train listening for details and to notice the target language structure "will" in real contexts. Step 5: 1d - Make Up a Conversation (10 mins) 1. The teacher sets the scene: "Imagine you are phoning a friend from the UK and you want to invite the friend to visit China. What will you talk about?" 2. The teacher writes two model sentences on the blackboard as language support: "If you come to my city/town, I'll show you around." / "If I go there, I'll try all the delicious local food." 3. Students work in pairs to make up a conversation about inviting a friend to visit China. They should use "will" and "if" clauses. The teacher walks around to give help. 4. Several pairs are invited to perform their conversations in front of the class. The teacher gives feedback and praises good use of target language. [Purpose] To provide students with an opportunity to use the target language (will, if clauses, communication phrases) in a meaningful speaking task, and to develop their communicative competence. Step 6: Homework (2 mins) 1. Write down the conversation you made in class and practice it with your partner. 2. Think about: How do you communicate with your family members?
