Passage A
How the "Beng Beng" Found a Global Audience
On Chinese streets, the phrase "Reversing, please be careful" usually means that a small electric tricycle is nearby. Now familiar warnings can also be heard in villages, cities and farms around the world.
Known informally as beng bengs or sanbengzi, these three-wheelers have long carried vegetables, packages, tools and passengers. They are not glamorous, but they are affordable, agile and easy to operate.
One tricycle became an online celebrity after an American content creator bought it as a Christmas gift for her father-in-law. Viewers laughed at its cheerful Chinese reversing message, but they also noticed that the little vehicle was surprisingly useful. As the video spread, overseas dealers began contacting its manufacturer.
The tricycle's popularity is about more than an amusing voice. It fills transportation gaps that larger vehicles cannot always handle.
On North American farms, it can carry equipment across private land. On the crowded streets of Southeast Asia, its small size makes it easier to move through traffic. In hilly parts of South America, powerful motors help transport crops and supplies. In some African communities, the same vehicle can serve as a cargo carrier, passenger taxi or mobile business.
Manufacturers are also adapting their products to local conditions. Models made for hot and rainy regions may receive better waterproofing, dust protection and shock absorption. Vehicles for farms and rough roads need stronger motors and greater carrying capacity. European customers may prefer lighter and quieter designs.
This shift reflects a simple business lesson: instead of merely selling what a factory already makes, companies are learning to make what customers actually need.
The humble beng beng was created to solve ordinary transportation problems. Those problems — high fuel costs, difficult roads and limited public transport — are not unique to one country.
Its overseas success shows that a product does not need to be luxurious or futuristic to travel far. Sometimes, the best ideas are the ones that make everyday life a little easier.

Passage B
Five Minutes a Night to Notice Small Joys
With the end of the semester approaching, these past few weeks have felt like a whirlwind. Between studying for finals and squeezing in plans before summer, I've found it easy to get swept away in the chaos, which is why I've taken on a practice that has allowed me to slow down and take everything in during these busy times.
Every night before going to bed, I reserve five minutes to write down something good that happened that day. I take my notebook, flip to the designated section in the back, and reflect on my day, recalling what stood out to me. There are pages filled with these brief moments, a few of which include:
· Calling my mom and catching up while I walk back from class
· Car karaoke while driving to get frozen yogurt
· My dog running to greet me when I went home for the weekend
· Sunday night dinners with the girls
After doing this for a few weeks, I skimmed my list. There was a clear pattern: more often than not, the things that brought me the most joy were the small moments. Whether it was catching up with friends over dinner, walking to class on a sunny day, or starting the morning off with my favorite playlist, many of my best memories came from simple things.
I would have missed many of these moments if I hadn't started this practice. The highlights of my life were in the smaller fragments of my seemingly average day-to-day experiences, and I was totally oblivious until I took the time to search for them.
This reflection has helped me become more mindful. Since some of the happiest moments can disguise themselves as small and insignificant, it's important to be present so they don't slip past unnoticed.
I've also found myself more appreciative of everything in my life, no matter the circumstance. I'm grateful not only for the happy times, but the hard times as well, because there are still positive things to be found there too.
It's the little things, small wins, and brief moments that make up the bigger picture of joy in our lives. They are always there, even if hidden in disorder and chaos. But I promise, they are there; we just have to slow down and be present enough to notice them.

Passage C
Robot Dog Finishes a Marathon on One Battery
In November 2024, a four-legged robot ran a full marathon in Sangju, South Korea, on a single battery. It covered 42.195 kilometers in 4 hours, 19 minutes, and 52 seconds, with no recharge and no battery swap. The robot, RAIBO2, finished among human runners on a hilly course with 286 meters of elevation change.
On September 23, 2026, a KAIST team led by Jemin Hwangbo published the result in Nature. Four-legged robots have often been limited to about 20 kilometers on one charge. RAIBO2 traveled about three times as far, per charge, as existing machines of its kind. Researchers say it is the first quadruped, a four-legged robot, to finish an official full marathon without changing its battery.
The point was not a bigger pack of cells. Standing and stepping already burn energy in the joints. Hwangbo's group lightened the legs, improved the motor circuits, and used machine learning to cut waste in each step. After the finish, the robot had used 1,280 watt-hours of a 2,016 watt-hours battery. The team estimates it could have gone about 25 kilometers more.
Its cost of transport, the energy used to move each unit of weight each meter, was 0.25, below a common human figure of 0.37. That is a measure of efficiency, not speed. The clock showed how long the battery lasted, not that the robot beat ordinary runners.
Hwangbo said RAIBO2 was not a machine that simply ran farther by carrying a larger battery. The whole robot was redesigned so more of the stored energy became actual distance. The marathon data, he said, show how a four-legged robot should be built if it is to work for hours outdoors.
Rescue work in hills and disaster zones has long been held back by short battery life. A dog-shaped machine that can keep moving for a marathon's worth of ground, without a pit stop, brings that work a step closer.
( )1. What special thing did RAIBO2 do in South Korea in 2024?
A. It beat most human runners in a marathon race.
B. It completed a full marathon using only one battery.
C. It climbed 286 meters high mountains without help.
D. It helped people finish rescue work in disaster areas.
( )2. How far can most common four-legged robots go on one charge?
A. Around 20 kilometers
B. 42.195 kilometers
C. About 60 kilometers
D. 25 kilometers
( )3. What did the team do to improve RAIBO2?
A. They added a much bigger battery pack to the robot.
B. They slowed down its running speed to save energy.
C. They redesigned it and cut energy waste in each step.
D. They changed the robot's shape into a real dog.
( )4. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. RAIBO2 runs faster than common human runners.
B. RAIBO2 uses energy more efficiently than humans.
C. The robot's energy cost measures its running speed.
D. Humans can only reach 0.25 in the cost of transport.
( )5. What is the main purpose of developing this robot dog?
A. To take part in different sports competitions.
B. To replace humans for long-distance running.
C. To provide help for rescue work in hard areas.
D. To show new technology in science magazines.
Passage D
When a Seven-Year Daydream Reached the Stage
Imagination can look like daydreaming, but sometimes it becomes a rehearsal for a future you cannot yet see.
For one young performer, that future was Matilda. At three years old, she watched the 1996 film again and again, sitting perfectly still and staring at objects around the house in the hope that they might move. Seven years later, she was standing on the stage of London's Cambridge Theatre, sharing the lead role in Matilda with three other girls before audiences of nearly 1,249 people a night.
Getting there was not simple. She completed six rounds of auditions in the spring of 2024, only to develop a severe cold before the final stage. Unable to sing or perform, she had to stop. Six months later, she went through all six rounds again, followed by four long weeks of uncertainty. Then the call finally came: the role was hers.
Three months of intensive rehearsals followed. Every step, line, and movement was repeated until it no longer required conscious thought. Somewhere in those hours, she stopped searching for Matilda and realized the character had been part of her imagination since childhood. She did not need to become Matilda so much as let her out.
Each night backstage, the performer thinks about Matilda's love of books, hatred of bullies, and courage to fight back. Then she breathes in, steps into the light, and enters the character's world.
Live theatre, however, never follows a plan perfectly. During one scene, her hair became tangled in Miss Honey's necklace just as the actors were supposed to spring apart. A few seconds onstage felt painfully long. Neither actor panicked. They stayed in character, quietly freed themselves, sacrificed some hair and a necklace, and continued. The audience noticed nothing.
That moment revealed why the stage and life are not so different. Imagination is not only a way to escape the real world; it is a way to build one. Actors, crew members, and the audience create that world together. When everyone believes in it for a while, painted walls and stage lights become a school, characters come alive, and a childhood daydream becomes something shared by an entire theatre.

Passage B
Passage C
Passage D
