七、阅读理解(共 15 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 30 分)
阅读 A、B、C 三篇短文,从每小题所给的四个选项中选出最佳答案。
A
Teenagers often hear the same advice: go to bed earlier. But a recent study has found something more important — when you sleep may matter as much as how long you sleep. The study was carried out by a research team in Europe and was reported by the BBC earlier this year.
The team followed more than two thousand students for a year. They found that students who went to bed before eleven and slept for at least eight hours did better in memory tests than those who slept the same number of hours but went to bed much later. In other words, a regular bedtime is a real part of learning.
However, many teenagers find early sleep hard. One reason is their phones. Scientists say that the light from screens tells the brain that it is still daytime. The brain then holds back a chemical that helps us fall asleep, so even after the phone is turned off, a student may stay awake for a long time.
The study also gives some good news: you do not have to be perfect from day one. Students who moved their bedtime thirty minutes earlier for a month improved their test scores little by little. If you are used to going to bed after one in the morning, going to bed two hours earlier is almost impossible. But going to bed fifteen minutes earlier for two weeks may be an easy start.
The lesson is simple and useful: think of sleep as part of your study, not as something you can “waste”. A good night's rest is not the enemy of hard work — it is what makes hard work work.
46.What did the recent study mainly find?
A.Going to bed early is unnecessary for teenagers.
B.How long you sleep matters more than when you sleep.
C.A regular bedtime matters as much as enough sleep.
D.Students who sleep less always get better scores.
47.How many students did the research team follow?
A.More than 200. B.More than 2,000. C.About 100. D.Less than 30.
48.Why do phones make it hard for teenagers to fall asleep?
A.Because they are usually too heavy.
B.Because the light from screens tells the brain it is still daytime.
C.Because students play games all night.
D.Because phone calls wake students up.
49.What does the writer advise students to do?
A.To follow a plan that fits them little by little.
B.To sleep two hours earlier at once.
C.To stop using phones completely.
D.To give up their study plans.
50.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Why teenagers like staying up late.
B.How to use phones in a healthy way.
C.Good sleep, at the right time, helps learning.
D.The history of sleep science.
B
When it comes to reading, we now have two choices every day: read on a screen, or read on paper. Most of us choose the screen, because it is convenient. But a growing number of studies suggest that the choice may change the way our brains work.
One well-known experiment was carried out in the United States. University students were asked to read the same material either on paper or on a screen. When they were later asked to put the main ideas in the right order, the students who had read on paper did clearly better. They seemed to have a clearer map of the text in their minds.
Why does this happen? One reason is that paper gives extra clues. When you read a real book, you can see where a sentence is on the page and how far the story has gone. These small clues help you build a mental map of what you are reading. A screen moves all the time, so this map is harder to build.
Another reason is attention. Reading on a screen is often interrupted. A message comes in, a video is suggested, and soon you are doing three things at the same time. Scientists call this “continuous partial attention”. It is not that screens make readers lazy; it is that screens make deep reading harder than it has to be.
This does not mean we should throw our phones away. The researchers suggest a simple rule: read important things on paper, and use screens for quick information and for fun. Slow reading is not a waste of time. Like slow food, it is a choice worth making.
51.What did the experiment with university students find?
A.Screens help readers understand ideas better.
B.Paper readers had a clearer map of the text.
C.Paper readers read much more slowly.
D.Screen readers remembered no details.
52.Why is it easier to build a mental map with a real book?
A.Because real books use bigger letters.
B.Because you can write notes on the pages.
C.Because the position of a sentence gives extra clues.
D.Because real books are cheaper.
53.What does the underlined phrase “continuous partial attention” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Doing several things at once and giving none full attention.
B.Paying close attention to one thing for a long time.
C.Being unable to see or hear anything.
D.Reading with a partner.
54.What is the writer's attitude towards screens?
A.Screens should be thrown away.
B.Screens are useful for quick information and for fun.
C.Screens can never be helpful.
D.Screens are only for young people.
55.What does the writer mean by “like slow food” in the last paragraph?
A.Reading slowly is a choice worth making.
B.Fast food is bad for our health.
C.Reading should be done while eating.
D.Books about food are worth reading.
C
Why do some students keep going after a failure while others give up? A well-known idea called “growth mindset” offers an answer. It was first put forward by the American psychologist Carol Dweck and has been studied for more than thirty years.
Dweck divided people's beliefs about ability into two types. People with a “fixed mindset” believe that ability is decided at birth: you are either good at maths or you are not. People with a “growth mindset” believe that ability can grow through effort, good ways of learning and help from others.
The difference can be seen clearly in how students explain their results. When a growth-mindset student fails a test, he or she thinks, “I need a better way to study.” When a fixed-mindset student fails the same test, he or she is more likely to think, “I am just not good at it.” The second sentence ends the learning; the first one starts it again.
The good news is that mindsets are not something we are stuck with. In one study, students who learned about how the brain grows were more willing to try difficult tasks a few weeks later than students who did not learn about it. Another study found that praising effort rather than cleverness was more likely to keep students working hard.
So what can you do? Start by noticing your own words. Change “I can't do this” into “I can't do this yet”. Ask for help early, not late. And remember the words of Dweck: “Becoming is better than being.”
56.What does the idea of “growth mindset” explain?
A.Why some students keep going after failure.
B.Why some students are born cleverer.
C.Why tests are important for students.
D.Why students like maths more than English.
57.What do people with a “fixed mindset” believe?
A.Ability can be improved with effort.
B.Ability is decided at birth.
C.Help from others is important.
D.Only hard work leads to success.
58.What does the writer mean by “The second sentence ends the learning; the first one starts it again”?
A.Fixed-mindset students give up more easily.
B.Students should answer in longer sentences.
C.The first sentence is always wrong.
D.Growth-mindset students never fail.
59.What did the study of “praising effort rather than cleverness” find?
A.Praise always makes students proud.
B.Clever students need no praise.
C.Praise for effort keeps students working harder.
D.Students dislike being praised.
60.What is the writer's purpose in writing this passage?
A.To introduce a famous psychologist only.
B.To encourage readers to develop a growth mindset.
C.To explain why tests should be easier.
D.To tell readers to stop praising children.
八、短文填空(共 10 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1 个适当的单词,或用括号内所给单词的正确形式填空。
Better Ways to Learn
Many students think that some people are simply born clever and that hard work changes 61 ______ (anything). This is not true. Scientists have found that we can all become better learners if we change our habits 62 ______ a few simple ways.
First, learn actively. Instead of just reading your notes again and 63 ______ (again), try to explain an idea in your own words. Studies show that we remember only about ten percent of what we read, 64 ______ about ninety percent of what we teach to others.
Second, review at the right time. Most people forget 65 ______ (much) of what they learn within a day 66 ______ they do nothing about it. The answer is 67 ______ (space) review: go over the material after one day, after three days and after a week. Each review makes the memory 68 ______ (strong).
Third, take care of your body. Enough sleep, 69 ______ (day) exercise and a little less screen time all help your brain work well. A student who studies for three quiet hours learns more than one who sits at a desk for six hours 70 ______ (worry) about their phone.
九、任务型阅读(共 5 小题;每小题 3 分,满分 15 分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
A 2025 report on teenagers' reading habits in China produced some interesting findings. The report was based on a survey of more than 12,000 middle school students in twenty cities.
The first finding is about paper books. Students who read paper books for at least thirty minutes a day were more likely to say that they enjoyed reading, and they also wrote better compositions. The researchers believe that reading on paper helps students slow down and think more carefully.
The second finding is about choice. Students who were allowed to choose their own books read almost twice as much as those who were told what to read. “When you choose the book yourself, the reading is yours,” one of the researchers explained.
The last finding is about role models. In families where at least one parent read for pleasure, students read about 12 minutes more each day than those in other families. The report suggests that parents do not have to read the same books as their children; they only need to be seen reading.
Based on these findings, the report gives one piece of advice to schools: do not turn reading into another test. Give students time, choice and a quiet place — and let them enjoy it.
71.How many students took part in the survey?
72.What did the report find about paper books?
73.Why was “choice” important in the report's second finding?
74.What is the report's advice to schools?
75. Do you like reading on paper or on a screen? Give your reason. (Open question; a reasonable answer is acceptable.)
