Unit 7 When Tomorrow Comes Section B 3a-3c (Reading & Writing) I. Teaching Aims 1. Students can read Mandy’s passage "My Dreams for the Future" and find out what she wants to be and how she imagines her life in 20 years. 2. Students can complete the table about Mandy’s dreams and their own (future job, place to live, free time activity, how to make dreams come true) by getting the key information from the text. 3. Students can use "will / I think I will ..." to write a short passage about their own dreams for the future with the notes in 3b. 4. Students can learn that dreams can come true as long as they study hard and keep on trying. II. Key and Difficult Points Key points: The key words and phrases in the text, such as artist, museum, work of art, countryside, nature, come true, keep on trying; and the structure "will + verb" and "I think I will ..." to talk about future dreams. Difficult points: Students may use will together with other verb forms by mistake, and they may find it hard to organize their own ideas into a short and connected passage. Teachers should give a clear model and useful sentence starters. III. Teaching Tools Textbook (3a-3c), blackboard and coloured pens, pictures of an artist / museum / countryside, word cards (artist, museum, countryside, nature, come true), a printed copy of the 3b table, and a simple PPT (optional). IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Lead-in (5 mins) 1. The teacher shows two pictures (a museum and a countryside house) and asks: "What will your life be like in 20 years?" Students share one idea freely. 2. The teacher writes the topic on the blackboard: "My Dreams for the Future", and leads students to think about jobs and places they like. [Purpose] To activate the topic words and get students ready for reading. Step 2 Pre-reading (3 mins) 1. The teacher asks students to look at the title and the pictures and guess: "What does Mandy want to be? Where will she live?" [Purpose] To train students to predict the content before reading. Step 3 While-reading / 3a (10 mins) 1. Students read the passage quickly and find out what Mandy wants to be (an artist). 2. Students read again carefully and underline the key information: study art in France, visit art museums, create her own art, live in the countryside, stay close to nature, invite friends at the weekend, study hard and keep on trying. [Purpose] To get the main idea and the key details from the text. Step 4 Complete the table / 3b (8 mins) 1. The teacher shows the 3b table (Item / Mandy / You). Students work in pairs and fill in the "Mandy" column: future job, place to live, free time activity, how to make dreams come true. 2. Students then fill in the "You" column with their own ideas. [Purpose] To organize the information with a table and prepare notes for writing. Step 5 Writing / 3c (10 mins) 1. The teacher gives a model and sentence starters: "In 20 years, I think I will be ... I will live ... At the weekend, I will ... I believe my dreams will come true as long as I ..." 2. Students write a short passage about their own dreams using the notes in 3b. A few students read their passages to the class. [Purpose] To use "will / I think I will ..." to express their own future dreams in writing. Step 6 Summary & Homework (4 mins) 1. The teacher and students go over the key words and the "will" structure together. 2. Homework: polish the passage after class; talk about your dreams with your parents in English. Mandy: artist / France / museums / countryside / nature Dreams come true = study hard + keep on trying Table: Future job / Place to live / Free time activity / How to make dreams come true 六、教学反思 本节课以"读范文、填表格、写梦想"为主线，学生基本能读懂 Mandy 的短文并完成 3b 表格，多数能仿照 2b 笔记写出自己的短文。但后进生仍存在两处问题：一是 writing 时 will 后接动词用了错误形式（如 will becomes），二是个别学生只会照抄范文语句，缺少自己的真实想法。改进：板书上单独强调"will + 动词原形"，写作前先让同桌用"I think I will ..."互相说一句自己的打算，再下笔；对内容空洞的学生，提示他们从"想做的工作—住哪里—周末做什么"三个点各写一句，降低起步难度。 学科网（北京）股份有限公司 $
