Its natural growth and lively vitality made me sense the perfect balance and unique value of all living things around me. This brief but striking experience made me curious about why nature can bring people special inner peace and spiritual connection. To figure out the reason, I looked into relevant documents and professional scholars’ opinions. A large number of classic works and research findings suggest that nature serves as a precious carrier for people to obtain spiritual comfort and inner strength. Dr. Paul Marshall, who has long focused on natural spiritual experiences, stated that such moments in nature can help individuals understand themselves better and develop positive inner feelings. “Such precious experiences are not limited to a small number of people,” he said. “They are far more common than we imagine.” His research further confirmed that people of all ages and different life attitudes can gain comfort from nature. I considered the touching story of Colleen, a girl like me, as a convincing example. When her father fell ill and became difficult to communicate with, she was trapped in great sadness and helplessness. During a hiking trip with her father on a quiet hilltop, the peaceful valley, soaring hawks and warm sunshine gradually calmed her anxious heart. She asked her father softly, “Daddy, how is your heart?” Her father smiled and replied gently, “My heart is fine. My home is my heart. I am at home.” It was the power of nature that helped them repair their emotional bonds and freed her from long-term distress. Furthermore, I have read numerous scientific studies which have proven that communing with nature benefits people both physically and mentally. It can effectively relieve anxiety, improve physical conditions and refresh exhausted minds. The diverse and breathtaking beauty of natural scenery inspires people’s awe, which greatly helps them adjust their life attitudes and maintain stable inner balance. 24. What did the author become curious about after the blackberry experience? A. How wild fruit grows in nature. B. Why nature gives people inner peace. C. Whether all living things are balanced. D. How people can connect with each other. 25. What does Dr. Paul Marshall’s research indicate? A. Older people need nature more than others. B. Only certain people can benefit from nature. C. Scholars hold different views on nature. D. Nature’s spiritual comfort is available to many. 26. Why is Colleen’s experience included in the text? A. To explain why her father became ill. B. To prove hiking is a popular family activity. C. To show nature can help heal emotional pain. D. To describe the beauty of a hilltop. 27. What does the underlined phrase “communing with” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Keeping pace with B. Taking account of C. Making up for D. Connecting with C As our planet steadily gets warmer, our bodies will need to deal with the stresses of higher temperatures. A new study shows that continued exposure to heat waves can age the body as much as regular drinking or smoking. Led by a team from the University of Hong Kong in China, the investigation looked at data from 24,922 people who had gone through medical examinations between 2008 and 2022. The researchers compared their records with the number of heat waves each person had probably experienced based on their registered addresses. The results showed that those who had been exposed to more heat waves had higher scores for biological markers associated with biological aging — a measure of the functionality of tissues, organs, and cells. The participants were sorted into four groups depending on heat wave exposure, and each step up from group to group was associated with an extra 0.023 to 0.031 years in biological age. The researchers say it puts heat waves in the same category as smoking, drinking, diet, and exercise in terms of how much they can affect biological aging. While this isn’t an entirely new connection, and doesn’t show direct cause and effect, it outperforms many earlier studies in that it measures heat waves over a long period of time in a large group of people. The findings add to what we know about both heat waves and aging. Since the elderly, those in rural areas, and physical workers are often more exposed to heat than others, this study highlights the need for further policy development to address environmental inequalities and enhance population adaptation to the health impacts of heat waves. The findings are also important in the context of aging populations. By 2050, some 16 percent of people worldwide are expected to be aged 65 or over, and as we all live longer lives, targeted policies and interventions are urgently needed to make sure those extra years are lived as healthily as possible. 28. How did the researchers carry out the study? A. By interviewing people from different areas. B. By tracking heat waves as they happened. C. By giving participants new health examinations. D. By studying collected health and location data. 29. What did the study find about people exposed to more heat waves? A. Their organs functioned better than average. B. They were more likely to smoke and drink. C. They did less exercise than other people. D. Their bodies showed signs of aging more quickly. 30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The limitations of earlier research. B. The causes of biological aging. C. The advantages of the study. D. The measures to reduce heat waves. 31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Longer lives do not always mean healthier lives. B. Healthy aging requires further policy support. C. The elderly are less exposed to heat waves. D. Rural workers adapt to heat better than others. D From live speech translation in video calls to auto-dubbing on TikTok, real-time translation powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is now embedded in everyday life. All this raises a vital question. If machines can do this faster and more accurately than humans, is investing years in learning another language still worth it? Our recent study examined cognitive performance in 94 adults aged 18 to 83, using both visuospatial (视觉空间的) and auditory tasks across working memory, attention and inhibition. Put simply, we looked at how people process and respond to information they see or mentally map out in space (visuospatial) and information they hear (auditory). Examples include remembering sounds, focusing on visual patterns, or ignoring distractions. Our study measured multilingualism as a spectrum, not a category. This allowed us to capture diverse language backgrounds and experiences. Multilingual participants spoke a range of languages with varying levels of proficiency and daily use, reflecting the linguistic diversity common within multicultural communities. Across most tasks, multilinguals and monolinguals performed similarly. However, one pattern was striking. Individuals with richer, more diverse multilingual experience showed markedly better performance in visuospatial working memory. These effects were most pronounced in older people. This suggests that multilingual experience doesn’t broadly enhance cognition, like some headlines claim. Instead, it may help preserve specific functions over time. Separate population-level research has also linked multilingualism to later onset of Alzheimer’s disease and better overall ageing outcomes, though the mechanisms continue to be debated. Overall, however, it appears that sustained use of multiple languages represents a form of mental activity with effects that accumulate across a lifetime. AI translation excels at speed and accessibility. For many practical purposes, it works remarkably well. AI will continue to change how we engage with language learning. It can personalize instruction, minimize barriers and provide feedback at scale. But it can’t replace the cognitive work that comes from learning a language. This work builds and preserves the mental sharpness that sustains us across a lifetime. And this difference still matters. 32. What is the main purpose of mentioning AI translation at the beginning? A. To show that AI has already surpassed human translators. B. To question whether learning a language is still worthwhile. C. To explain why real-time translation is now so common. D. To argue that language learning will soon become outdated. 33. What can be learned about the recent study? A. It grouped participants strictly by their language backgrounds. B. It found multilinguals outperformed monolinguals in most tasks. C. It treated multilingual experience as a matter of degree. D. It proved that age is the key factor in cognitive benefits. 34. What does the author suggest about multilingualism in the last three paragraphs? A. It mainly improves young people’s visuospatial memory. B. It can effectively prevent Alzheimer’s disease. C. It is more beneficial than other forms of mental activity. D. It may help maintain certain mental abilities as people age. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. AI Translation: A Threat to Language Learning? B. Learning Another Language: Still Worth the Effort? C. Multilingualism and Ageing: What the Evidence Shows? D. AI Translation vs Language Learning: Who Will Win? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Finding a career as a teenager can be a frightening task, but it’s an important step in preparing you for the future. 36 It’s a long-term professional path that allows you to use your skills and hobbies to earn a living and make a huge contribution to your country. Not because she couldn’t, but because every time she tried, her voice shrank to a whisper. Her classmates called her “the shadow.” Only her little brother, Sam, knew another Maya — the one who made up bedtime stories about a brave rabbit and a paper moon. Maya wrote those stories in a worn blue notebook, never showing anyone. In September, a new teacher, Mr. Reed, arrived. He started a class magazine and asked everyone to submit a short story. Maya’s best friend, Ava, urged her to try. “Just write. I’ll hand it in for you if you want,” Ava said. Maya spent three nights polishing a story about a silent girl who could only speak through paper birds. She gave it to Ava, who passed it to Mr. Reed without Maya’s name. Two weeks later, Mr. Reed announced that the class magazine would be printed, and the best story would be read at the school’s Autumn Festival. The chosen story was “The Paper Birds.” The class clapped. Maya froze. Then Mr. Reed added, “The writer will read it aloud on stage.” Ava looked at Maya, whose face had turned pale. Sam, who had come to visit her classroom that afternoon, tugged her sleeve and whispered, “You can do it. The rabbit told me.” 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 That evening, Ava and Sam sat with Maya, the blue notebook open. __________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the night of the Autumn Festival, Maya stepped onto the stage. __________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
