2026 Asian Games Closing: China’s Great Success
The 2026 Asian Games ended on October 4th in Japan. For the Chinese delegation (代表团), the Games were full of unforgettable moments. China won a total of 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals. With this amazing achievement, China topped the medal table for the 12th time in a row.
Chinese athletes did very well in many different sports. In swimming, they won 30 gold medals. In diving, China continued its long-time success. On September 30th, Lian Junjie won the men’s 10-meter platform title. This was China’s 100th diving gold medal in Asian Games history since 1974. Young athletes also caught a lot of attention. Thirteen-year-old swimmer Yu Zidi set a new Asian Games record in the women’s 200-meter butterfly. Her excellent performance showed that some of China’s young athletes are already competing at a very high level.
China also did well in team events. The men’s artistic gymnastics (竞技体操) team successfully defended its title, winning the team championship for the third time.
Behind these medals were years of hard training. Some athletes were young newcomers, while others had lots of experience. Their stories show that success in sports does not come from one good day. It requires talent, hard work, and the ability to keep improving. For the Chinese athletes, winning medals was important, but the experience of competing, learning, and challenging themselves was also a big part of the journey.
19. What does Paragraph 1 mainly tell us?

20. Why is Lian Junjie’s victory mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. To show China’s success in diving. B. To introduce a new sport to readers.
C. To describe his daily training. D. To compare him with other athletes.
21. What does the underlined word “defended” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. beat B. fought C. held D. saved
22. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?

C. China came first on the medal table for 12 continuous Asian Games.
D. Young athletes performed better than older ones.

① China is famous for having the best high-speed train network in the world. Now, a new train called CR450 is breaking speed records!
② CR450 can go very fast, with an average (平均的) speed of 400 km/h and a top speed of 453 km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train in a rail network in the world is China’s CR400, which runs at 350 km/h on average. Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment.
③ “The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake (刹车) accurately and steadily (平稳地), ” Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. It travels a lot faster, but the standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance (距离) as the CR400, which is 6,500 meters. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds compared to the 2.3 seconds needed for the CR400.
④ Engineers tested the brakes a lot to make sure they work well. In the tests, the brake disc (制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700°C. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system.
⑤ Besides having a faster speed and better braking system, CR450 is also lighter and uses less energy than CR400, according to CCTV News. This means that the CR450 uses less fuel or power to run, which is good for the environment because it reduces pollution. And a lighter train also needs less energy to move, so it can travel farther on the same amount of fuel.
⑥With all these advantages, people are very excited to see this new train and experience its speed and comfort. China’s high-speed train network is truly impressive, and the CR450 is just another example of its greatness!
23. How much faster the CR450 is on average compared to the CR400?
A. 50 km/h. B. 350 km/h. C. 400 km/h. D. 453 km/h.
24. What is the key to CR450 According to Zhao Hongwei?
A. Making it run much faster. B. Having a better braking system.
C. Using less and greener energy. D. Having a comfortable environment.
25. Which will be most affected (影响) by the development of the CR450 train from the passage?
A. The job market for train drivers. B. China’s efforts in environmental protection.
C. The need for a high-powered network. D. The popularity of other kinds of transportation.
26. Which is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

One day, Susie was unhappy when she came home from school. “What’s the matter, my dear?” asked her mother, drawing her to her side and smiling.
“All our class must hand in compositions (作文) tomorrow. We must write 12 lines at least. But I can never write one. I’ll have to go to school without a composition, for I won’t copy one from a book, or ask you or papa to write one for me.”
“That’s right,” said her mother. “You’ll be happier with a poor composition, if it’s your own, than with a fine one written by somebody else. But cheer up. Run into the garden and play. I’ll call you in half an hour. Don’t think about your composition now. Just have a good time.”
It seemed just a few minutes to Susie before she heard her mother calling her. She went into the house immediately-her hands full of sweet flowers, and her face red with exercise.
Then her mother asked her to sit by the window with a nice piece of paper and a pencil, and write something about what she could see. “Never mind your composition, do this to please me, and we’ll talk about that later.”
Although Susie thought her mother’s request was strange, she knew she always had a good reason for everything she did. So she did as her mother requested.
As she looked out, she first saw the western sky and some bright, sunset clouds. “Oh, mother, what a sunset!”
“Don’t talk. Just write.”
The pencil began moving rapidly across the paper. She wrote about the sunset clouds, the look of the distant hills, the streets, the river, the garden with its flowers, and the birds flying past the window. She forgot all about the terrible composition! Just as she had reached the bottom of the page, her mother came in and said with a smile, “Well, Susie, how does that composition come on?”
“Composition! You told me not to think about it, and I’ve never thought of it once. I’ve had such a nice time writing about what I could see from the window.”
Mrs. Smith took the paper and read what Susie had written. She said, “There, Susie, that’s a very nice composition, really.” “A composition! Is that a composition?” Susie asked in surprise.
“Yes, my dear, and a very good one, too, if we find a title for it,” replied her mother. Then she added, “I’m sure it will please your teacher, as it does me. You see, it’s easy enough to write a composition if you have anything interesting to write about. ”
27. Why was Susie unhappy when she came home?
A. Because she was punished by her teacher. B. Because she couldn’t write a composition.
C. Because she forgot to take her composition home. D. Because she didn’t get on well with her classmates.
28. Which words can describe Susie’s mother?
A. strict and impatient B. quiet and careless C. wise and patient D. funny and shy
29. Which might be the title of Susie’s composition?
A. My Helpful Clever Mother B. The Beautiful Sights at Sunset
C. How to Please Your Teacher D. How to Have a Pleasant Time
30. What might happen the next morning?
A. Susie’s classmates would laugh at her. B. Susie’s teacher would be angry with her.
C. Susie’s mother would ask her to stay at home. D. Susie would hand in her composition happily.

A. B. C. D.
A 24. B 25. B 26. D

B 28. C 29. B 30. D

根据文中“She wrote about the sunset clouds, the look of the distant hills, the streets, the river, the garden with its flowers, and the birds flying past the window.” The Beautiful Sights at Sunset。
Just as the saying goes, “Birds of a feather flock together (物以类聚).” A new study shows that it’s easier for students to become close if they have a lot in common.
Cassie McMillan from Northeastern University did the study. She asked more than 20,000 students aged 9 to 17 from five countries about students’ relationships. She said there were two kinds of relationships: weak ties (弱联系) and strong ties. ____31____ A strong tie means two people are friends and spend a lot of time together.
Cassie found that similarities are very important in students’ friendships. ____32____ However, if two students have fewer similarities, they may have weak ties.
Are strong ties more important than weak ties? ____33____ “People with strong ties spend a lot of time together and are close,” Cassie explained. “Other friends are great too. ____34____ So they can learn new things from each other when they talk.” So the best way is to have both kinds of ties in our life.
A. The answer is no.
B. Good friendships help students grow better.
C. They know different people and different things.
D. A weak tie means two people are friends but hardly meet.
E. The more similarities they have, the stronger their friendship will be.
31. ________
32. ________
33. ________
34. ________
35. What do you think is more important between friends, differences or similarities? Why?
__________________________________________
D 32. E 33. A 34. C
35. Differences. Because they can learn something new from each other.
空处需要先解释什么是弱联系,D项“A weak tie means two people are friends but hardly meet.”
E项“The more similarities they have, the stronger their friendship will be.”
other friends指代弱联系的朋友,下句so引出结果“互相学到新东西”,空处是原因,要解释为什么这类朋友可以互相学习,C项“They know different people and different things.”,所以彼此交谈时能够学到新东西,和下句“learn new things”构成因果逻辑。
