When you’re a teacher, a big part of your job is battling student misconceptions. Often students come to the classroom believing that learning can’t be fun and that what they learn isn’t relevant to the real world—much less to their personal interests. I’ve discovered that if I show students how what they learn is relevant to my hobbies, they’re much more willing to make connections to their personal interests and develop their own hobbies.
No matter what subject I’m teaching, I find ways to bring my hobbies into the classroom. For example, I’m a car enthusiast, so when I teach physics, I contextualize concepts with my knowledge about cars. If we’re covering friction, for example, I bring different tires (轮胎) into my classroom so that my students can conduct lab experiments with them to see how friction works in real-life applications.
When I first brought my hobbies to my classroom, I was focused on how doing so would build engagement and help my students understand concepts in science. But I quickly learned that the practice also helped me build stronger relationships with them. When I let them see an aspect of my life outside of school, some students who were also interested in cars connected with me more and became more engaged in my courses. Even those who didn’t share that interest with me seemed more engaged once I showed a different side of myself.
What started as an experiment is now more of a philosophy. Even when I’m planning classes, I tend to think about how I can bring in my hobbies. I find that doing so energizes my instruction, engages my students, and demonstrates to them how abstract concepts play out in the real world. Best of all, my passion for my hobbies seems to inspire them to be passionate about finding their own.
24. What poses a challenge to teachers according to the author?
A. Students’ misunderstandings about teachers.
B. Students’ false assumptions about learning.
C. The irrelevance of textbooks to students’ life.
D. The gap between teachers’ and students’ hobbies.
25. Why does the author bring tires into the classroom?
A. To teach an engineering skill. B. To explain the structure of a car.
C. To share a real-life experience. D. To illustrate a scientific concept.
26. What was the unexpected outcome of the author’s teaching method?
A. A higher class attendance rate. B. Better examination results.
C. A closer teacher-student bond. D. More spare time for students.
27. Which of the following best describes the author as a teacher?
A. Innovative. B. Humorous. C. Decisive. D. Sympathetic.
C
The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports enthusiast, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch. Come fall, our backyard football games began with passing practice.
Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of The Committee of Games, accelerating (加速) my competitive fever. However, in girls’ sports games at my school, I was no star. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. School sports did not bleed into the weekends, as they do today, but at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During break time, magazines were also quite popular for us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare funds to use to join a gym.
So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved (演变) in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.
28.What does the underlined word “humiliation” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Responsibility B.Panic C.Shame D.Desire
29.What did the author owe her victory in the Softball Throw event to?

30.What happened after the author stepped into adulthood?
A.She generally exercised on weekends. B.She joined Royal Canadian Air Force.
C.She preferred reading to exercising. D.She kept her love for sports.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the article?
A.To describe how her father built her interest in sports.
B.To recall her childhood memories about sports.
C.To express her passion for sports and fitness.
D.To stress the benefits of physical exercise.

The Amazon in the heart of South America and the Atlantic rainforests on the east coast of the continent are separated by hundreds of miles of dry forest and savanna (稀树草原) that are too difficult for most rainforest trees to survive. Despite this gap, the two ecosystems share many different species of tree.
It was previously supposed that the trees bridged this gap during historical periods when the region was much wetter and more forgiving to passing trees.
Off the back of new research, a new theory has sprung up: The forests of the Atlantic rainforest are constantly occupied by trees from the Amazon. They do this by growing and spreading along the river, which acts like a hidden “highway” between the two separated ecosystems.
“Rather than tree species being exchanged during specific wetter periods in the past, we found that they have dispersed consistently over time,” Dr James Nicholls, lead study author, said in a statement. “This probably happens slowly, by generations of trees growing along the ‘highways’ provided by rivers that run through Brazil’s dry ecosystems,” added Dr Nicholls.
The researchers came to this conclusion by studying the genetics of 164 species of Inga tree, which are common in Latin American rainforests. Their DNA was used to reconstruct the “family tree” of the plants showing the team when each species split from its numerous ancestors and their pattern of movement across the continent. Researchers identified 16 to 20 instances of species migrating from the Amazon to the Atlantic Forest and successfully taking root.
The study highlights how the natural world does not respect the national borders set by homo sapiens (智人). These ecosystems are deeply connected, frequently spreading between countries regardless of border checks and passports. This view, the team says, could have huge importance for the conservation of the rainforests in South America and the rest of the world.
32.What can we learn from the old theory of tree migration?
A.It depended on genetic data. B.It stressed slow river spread.
C.It proved species connection. D.It assumed wetter past periods.
33.How do trees from the Amazon reach the Atlantic rainforest according to the new theory?
A.By using wind movement. B.By getting human assistance.
C.By following river highways. D.By relying on animal migration.
34.What does the underlined word “dispersed” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Spread. B.Increased. C.Reduced. D.Disappeared.
35.What does the study suggest people do for rainforest conservation?
A.Focus only on the Amazon. B.Cooperate across countries.
C.Protect each forest separately. D.Ignore national borders entirely.

Anthony was a fifth-grade student in the Albany Elementary School which had a rich history and a good reputation across the state, thanks to its devotion to providing high-quality education and shaping generations of Albany’s children.
Frankly speaking, Anthony was neither the brightest student, nor the most athletic in the school, but he had a real enthusiasm for learning and always approached his studies with strong curiosity. Every morning, he would greet the school day with a wide and genuine smile that brightened the entire classroom. His classmates couldn’t help but be influenced by his optimistic attitude towards life, which helped him become very popular and also form many friendships at school.
One unexpected day, the teacher announced a surprise test. It was a subject that Anthony had struggled with. Even more unfortunately, he was not fully prepared. As the papers were handed out, Anthony’s heart sank, and his mind went blank, with a wave of anxiety and nervousness flooding over him. He looked around, hoping for some comfort and encouragement, but all he saw were the focused expressions of his classmates. 听力原文
Text 1
W: I spent the evening marking your exam papers. All of you did a great job. Now turn to page three. Read the story first, and then I will ask someone to answer a question.
M: Sorry, Mrs. Smith. I left my book at home.
Text 2
W: I’ve only got ten minutes before my favorite sports game starts. The next bus will arrive here in twenty minutes. Let’s call a taxi.
M: Why not ride a shared bike instead? It’s much faster during rush hour.
Text 3
M: Kate, how was your holiday?
W: Terrific. My husband and I had a lot of fun. But look, a mountain of paperwork is waiting for me.
M: Ha-ha. What is this? It’s beautiful.
W: Sophia’s wedding invitation. She sent the invitations out to each of us this morning. Didn’t you receive yours?
Text 4
M: Are you up for a movie this weekend?
W: Er… Long lines, packed theaters, and the limited seat choices… I’d rather go cycling or hiking on weekends.
M: Okay, I will phone Cindy. She is free.
Text 5
W: The weather has been so unpredictable lately, hasn’t it?
M: Yes! Yesterday there were showers, but today it’s bright and sunny. Who knows—maybe it will snow tomorrow?
W: It’s really difficult to plan anything in this kind of weather.
Text 6
W: ⑥You finally arrived! What took you so long?
M: ⑥I got to the airport on time. But then the plane was delayed for almost two hours. I don’t know what happened.
W: That’s too bad. Have you had breakfast yet?
M: No. The meal served on the plane was awful.
W: There’s a cafe called SkyBites downstairs that serves fresh desserts and coffee. Let’s go there later.
M: OK. ⑦I need to discuss some work issues with Mr. Stern after the meal. But first, let’s go to the baggage claim area on the first floor.
W: ⑦Sure.
Text 7
M: ⑧I just baked masses of cookies! It’s time to put them into this cookie jar.
W: ⑧Actually, you’d better use an airtight food storage container instead. It’ll keep the cookies fresh for a longer time. I’m not into cookies, but my mom often bakes cookies for my brother.
M: Really? I always thought cookie jars were the best choice.
W: Not really. ⑨Cookie jars aren’t airtight, so the cookies will go soft rapidly. An airtight container can help them stay crispy and delicious.
M: ⑨Good point! I bought some of these containers last month. They should be on top of the cupboard.
Text 8
M: ⑩Hey, Emma! My sister Jenny just moved into her new house. I was thinking of getting her some indoor plants as a housewarming gift. But I don’t know much about them.
W: ⑩That’s a great idea! How about a lucky bamboo? It is often seen to bring luck to the household. She can place it in the living room.
M: That sounds perfect!
W: ⑪According to Chinese traditions, the significance of the lucky bamboo is tied to how many sticks it has. For example, two sticks represent love, five sticks represent harmony and eight sticks represent growth.
M: Nice! ⑫What about something for her study room?
W: ⑫A Chinese money plant would be great. It only needs watering weekly. I placed one in my bedroom and it is growing well. The golden pothos is also a good choice.
M: Thanks, Emma!
Text 9
W: ⑬Carl, my sister recommended a local restaurant. Let’s go there tonight.
M: Is that the one the hotel receptionists just talked about?
W: No, not that one. It’s a bit far from our hotel. Let me check a map.
M: ⑭Oh, sorry. I just got an email from my manager. He said there would be a staff meeting scheduled for this evening. I’m afraid we can’t try that restaurant.
W: ⑭What? But we’re in Mexico now! It’s at least a four-hour flight to Los Angeles. How can you attend the meeting?
M: Take it easy. With advanced technology, we can have online meetings anywhere now. ⑮In the past, I had to wait for a fax or a letter to get the information. If I needed to sign a contract with a client who was far away, I had to go there in person. But nowadays, a simple video call can solve all issues.
W: But sometimes, that convenience comes at a cost. ⑯Right now, it feels like our vacation time is being consumed by work. This is our first trip since we got married in Cairo.
M: I’m really sorry about that. I promise it will be over soon and then we can enjoy our time together.
Text 10
M: You are watching the evening news. First, we want to draw your attention to something that has happened worldwide. ⑰A devastating earthquake recently struck Morocco, killing at least 2,900 people and leaving more than 5,600 injured. With a magnitude of 6.8, this was the strongest earthquake to hit the nation’s center in more than a century. ⑱Next, the independent film Flow won the Best Animated Feature Film at the 2025 Oscars, securing the first Academy Award for Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis. It is the first time a film from Latvia has ever been nominated, so it really means a lot. The movie can be seen on a free and open-source software platform called Blender and has no dialogue. ⑲In terms of food, John Armand Mitzewich, an American chef, is known for publishing instructional cooking videos on the blog and YouTube channel Food Wishes, with over 1 billion views on his channel. ⑳John Armand Mitzewich graduated from Paul Smith’s College, New York, in 1983. He was a Chef Instructor at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco for five years before leaving to focus on teaching people to cook online. In 2011, he was awarded Best Home Chef in a series by Taste TV.

29.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch. Come fall, our backyard football games began with passing practice.(在垒球投掷项目中,我第一次体验到运动胜利的滋味。这归功于我的第一位教练,也就是我的父亲。他每天在家举重,给我们买棒球手套和帽子,温暖时节陪我们练接球,秋天陪我们在后院练习传球)”可知,作者将自己的胜利归功于父亲的榜样作用和日常训练。
30.细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation.(所以,尽管让一些朋友感到惊讶,这份早年的运动基础在成年后演变成对运动和健身的专注,即便在假期也必不可少)”可知,作者成年后依然保持着对体育运动的热爱。
31.推理判断题。根据第一段中“The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school.(我第一次意识到我对体育比赛的热爱是在小学的Field Day期间)”和最后一段“So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation evolved in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered essential even on vacation.(因此,尽管这让我们的一些朋友感到震惊,但早期的基础在成年后演变成了一种专注于运动和健身的方式,即使在度假时也被认为是必不可少的)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要讲述了作者从小热爱体育,并且在父亲的指导和培训下第一次尝到了运动胜利的滋味。就此,作者开始参与各种体育运动,并把这种对体育的热爱持续到了成年,所以作者写这篇文章的目的是表达她对运动和健康的热情。
【答案】32.D 33.C 34.A 35.B
【导语】文章主要讲述了研究揭示亚马逊雨林树种沿河持续扩散至大西洋沿岸雨林。
【详解】32.细节理解题。根据第二段“It was previously supposed that the trees bridged this gap during historical periods when the region was much wetter and more forgiving to passing trees.(以往人们认为树木是在该地区更湿润的历史时期跨越这片阻隔地带的。)”可知,旧理论认为树木迁徙依托过去更湿润的气候环境。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段中“They do this by growing and spreading along the river, which acts like a hidden “highway” between the two separated ecosystems.(它们沿着河流生长扩散,河流如同两大独立生态系统间隐秘的“高速通道”。)”可知,亚马逊树木顺着河道迁徙至大西洋雨林。
34.词句猜测题。根据第四段中“Rather than tree species being exchanged during specific wetter periods in the past, we found that they have dispersed consistently over time,” Dr James Nicholls, lead study author, said in a statement. “This probably happens slowly, by generations of trees growing along the ‘highways’ provided by rivers that run through Brazil’s dry ecosystems,” added Dr Nicholls.(该研究的主要作者詹姆斯·尼科尔斯博士在一份声明中指出:“我们发现,树种并非在过去特定的湿润时期才进行交流,而是随着时间的推移持续不断地dispersed。”
根据最后一段“The study highlights how the natural world does not respect the national borders set by homo sapiens (智人). These ecosystems are deeply connected, frequently spreading between countries with regardless of border checks and passports. This view, the team says, could have huge importance for the conservation of the rainforests in South America and the rest of the world.(这项研究强调了自然界并不尊重智人所设定的国界。这些生态系统紧密相连,经常跨越国界传播,完全无视边境检查和护照。研究团队表示,这一观点可能对南美洲乃至全世界雨林的保护工作具有重大意义。)”可知,雨林生态跨国相连,保护雨林需要各国跨界合作。

第二节(满分25分)
【答案】Para. 1
It was a note from one of his friends, offering him the answers. Anthony recognized the handwriting instantly — it was from his best friend, Mike. His heart pounded as he stared at the neatly written solutions. A part of him longed to copy them and avoid embarrassment, but memories of his teacher emphasizing honesty flashed through his mind. He glanced at Mike, who gave him an encouraging nod. However, Anthony recalled how his parents always told him that true success came from hard work, not shortcuts. The conflict within him grew fiercer.
Para. 2
With a deep breath, Anthony picked up the note and slowly tore it into pieces. He raised his hand and quietly informed the teacher about the incident. Though his voice trembled, he felt a wave of relief. To his surprise, the teacher praised his integrity and allowed him extra time to complete the test. Anthony answered the remaining questions calmly, doing his best. When the results came out, he scored lower than usual but earned everyone’s respect. That day, he learned that courage and honesty were far more valuable than perfect grades.
