He is a Shifu, a Chinese word meaning a master of martial arts (武术). Tokuda has reason to be proud. He has been involved with Chinese martial arts for almost forty years. After learning them at the martial arts school in New Mexico State, today he is among the most experienced kung fu teachers of the school. Practicing martial arts two to three hours and helping students improve their skills have become Tokuda’s daily routine. He expects to practice and teach martial arts for the rest of his life. “I’m still learning. It’s worth more than a lifetime to learn Chinese martial arts,” he said. “Once I started, I just couldn’t stop. I think it’s also the magic of Chinese culture.” Tokuda was sent to the martial arts school when he was 10. He still remembers how unwilling he was when starting out. “My father had always wanted to learn Chinese martial arts but he never got the chance, so he wanted his kid to learn it,” he said. “I was so afraid at that time because I thought kung fu was all about fighting.” But things changed after he learned that martial arts were more than punching and kicking. “One of the things martial arts teach me is overcoming difficulties,” Tokuda said. “As a little kid, my first lesson was like, oh, look, this is a thing that I can get through by hard work and perseverance (毅力), and that was priceless for my life.” Learning Chinese martial arts opened a gateway for him to better understand Chinese culture because he could hear a lot of ancient Chinese kung fu-related stories. He said, “I feel martial arts preserve something of ancient China that can’t be found in books. They are sort of an oral history.” Tokuda has also been invited to various events in his home state to show traditional Chinese culture, including the dragon dance and lion dance, which he also learnt at the martial arts school. Because of this, he is now considered a cultural envoy (使者) in the eyes of the public. 1.Tokuda refused to learn kung fu at first because he had thought it was ________. A.violent B.magical C.practical D.difficult 2.Why was Tokuda sent to learn Chinese martial arts? A.He was crazy about Chinese culture. B.He wanted to be a martial arts master. C.His father had wanted to learn but could not. D.His parents wanted to better understand Chinese culture. 3.From the passage, what can we learn about Tokuda? A.He learnt martial arts from his father. B.He is the founder of the kung fu school. C.He learnt from martial arts how to deal with difficulties D.He is the most experienced kung fu teacher of his state. 4.Which of the following words can best describe Tokuda? A.Outgoing and friendly. B.Talented and humorous. C.Responsible and confident. D.Determined and hard-working. 六、七选五 The summer months are the ideal time for fun in the sun, with plenty of opportunities to catch up on moodboosting vitamin D. 1 So how to beat the heat and get a good night’s sleep? If your skin is hot, you might feel like it’s impossible to fall asleep. Maybe you could take a cold shower before bed. If the idea of a fullbody cold wash sounds frightening, you can fill a bottle with cool water, and then spray (喷洒) yourself with it. 2 Wetting your hair can also help you stay cool and fall asleep more easily. 3 Make sure that your bed sheets are made of the right materials for the heat. Sheets that are made of materials such as cotton and bamboo are the best bed sheets for cooler sleep, as they can keep most people cool and comfortable. It’s common knowledge that drinking a caffeinated beverage (含咖啡因的饮料) before bed can lead to trouble falling asleep. Therefore, people should consider cutting out drinks with caffeine entirely if they’re having trouble falling asleep. Even if you’re not a coffee drinker, you may be consuming caffeine in tea, soda, and other common beverages. 4 This can actually help you get a better night’s sleep. If you’re unable to fall asleep in a hot bedroom, excellent ventilation (通风) could be the key to cooling down your space. This may mean opening windows or using fans to create a strong breeze. Try positioning fans at various angles around your bedroom to see which works best. 5 A.But many people find it difficult to fall asleep. B.Breathable materials will help you sleep soundly. C.It provides cooling relief before you climb into bed. D.The movements of air can save you from the heat. E.You’d better try removing these drinks from your diet. F.Fresh air cleans your lungs and is good for your health. G.The quality of your sleep improves if your bed sheets are silk ones. 一、阅读理解(2026·全国二卷·高考真题) My first time doing tai chi For the first 15 minutes of my tai chi (太极) class, we remain 1 (entire) in one spot to warm up. G.The quality of your sleep improves if your bed sheets are silk ones. 【答案】 1.A 2.C 3.B 4.E 5.D 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了在炎热的夏天如何睡个好觉。 1.根据下文“So how to beat the heat and get a good night’s sleep?
