A.that B.this C.it D.one
that那个;this这个;it它;one一个。固定结构“find it + 形容词 + to do sth”,it在此处作形式宾语,后面的动词不定式to balance是真正的宾语,that、this、one都不可以充当形式宾语,应填it。
2.________ my father ________ my mother are fond of Chinese chess, and they often play it together at weekends.
A.Either; or B.Neither; nor C.Both; and D.Not only; but also
Either; or要么…… 也不……;Both; and……和……两者都;Not only; but also不仅…… 根据句中谓语动词为复数形式are,以及后半句“and they often play it together at weekends.”
3.—Could you tell me ________ you argued with your best friend yesterday?
—Just because we had different opinions about our weekend plan.
A.how B.why C.when D.where

such...to...搭配错误;such...that...如此……以至于……,such后接名词;too...to...太……而不能……,too后接形容词或副词;so...that...
7.—Could you tell me ________ improve my memory?

应填how I can;by。
8.Father hopes that we can be people who are ________ to the society, just like peanuts.

后文“as the list ended without her name”出现关键词list,read a list“宣读名单”符合。

take up“开始从事”;pick up“捡起”;hold up“举起”,均不符合语境。
Smith表达“we have…writers for the newspaper already”,可知应选newspaper“报纸”。

“The only constant (不变的) in life is change,” Heraclitus said in about 500 BC. That could be more true today. We live in a world that is changing every minute.
Technology is out of date almost by the time we buy it. We get plenty of information every day. Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” In fact, there is more information in a newspaper than someone would have experienced in his whole life.
Why are we afraid of change? That’s because our brains want to protect us. After all, who knows what new dangers might appear? However, change is also the only way of development. Nobody can stop it in life. Luckily, our brains become stronger when meeting the unknown. Dealing with the unexpected needs imagination and creativity. To be more imaginative and creative, you should look for and find environments you have no experience with.
You can learn how to face the changes in daily life. You can try a new restaurant. You can also go to a concert you normally wouldn’t attend. Small changes can help you gradually get used to uncertainty. So when bigger things happen, you’ll be more fully prepared for them.
People who fear change often stick to a certain lifestyle. They believe they can control the future by doing so. But change comes anytime and anywhere. If you can actively find it out and deal with it, you will be successful.
29.Why are people afraid of change according to the passage?
A.Because change brings no new chances.
B.Because our brains want to keep us safe.
C.Because people know all the possible dangers.
D.Because change can be stopped in our life.
30.What do we need to deal with unexpected things?
A.Imagination and creativity. B.Much rich life experience.
C.Different new environments. D.Plenty of information.
31.What can small daily changes help us do?
A.Stop big changes from happening.
B.Get used to uncertainty little by little.
C.Control our future lifestyle easily.
D.Avoid all kinds of difficulties in life.
32.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.To tell us how to face change in life.
B.To introduce some famous sayings about change.
C.To show that technology changes fast.
D.To explain why change is everywhere.
【答案】29.B 30.A 31.B 32.A
29.根据第三段“Why are we afraid of change? That’s because our brains want to protect us.”可知,人们害怕变化是因为大脑想要保护我们,对应B选项“Because our brains want to keep us safe.”。
30.根据第三段“Dealing with the unexpected needs imagination and creativity.”
31.根据第四段“Small changes can help you gradually get used to uncertainty.”可知,日常的小变化能帮助我们逐渐适应不确定性,对应B选项“Get used to uncertainty little by little.”。
A选项“To tell us how to face change in life.”
C
Many middle school students feel rushed all the time as they try to balance schoolwork, hobbies, housework, and time with friends. If your days often seem messy or out of control, don’t worry. With a few practical tips, you can manage your day more effectively.
First, start small. For many people, getting started is the hardest step towards finishing a task. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, take the first step bravely. A small beginning lowers the pressure and often leads to real progress.
Second, break big tasks into small parts. You may find that you can focus on almost anything for just 25 minutes. Set a timer and work with full attention. Then take a five-minute break before starting the next round. This simple cycle can make difficult tasks feel possible.
Third, make unpleasant tasks more enjoyable. If you have to do something you don’t like, try pairing it with something you do enjoy. For example, you can listen to your favourite songs while washing the dishes. By doing so, you turn boring chores into more pleasant moments.
In addition, choose an organizing method that suits you. The best method is the one that truly works for you. Some students prefer colorful sticky notes or phone reminders, but you may work better with a simple to-do list. This is because every time you cross a task off your list, you get a sense of accomplishment and feel proud of yourself.
Finally, remember that learning self-management takes time and practice. If you forget something or make a mistake, treat yourself with kindness. Studies show that being kind to yourself can help you feel less stressed and become stronger when facing difficulties.
Managing your day is about step-by-step progress, not perfection. Try one of these tips today, and you will soon feel calmer, more focused, and more in control.
33.What is the hardest part of finishing a task for many people?
A.Taking the first step. B.Working with full focus.
C.Lowering the pressure. D.Waiting for perfect moments.
34.If you have to do something you don’t like, what can you do?
A.Try to finish it as quickly as possible.
B.Break the task into small parts.
C.Do something you like while doing it.
D.Give yourself a gift after finishing it.
35.What does the underlined word “accomplishment” mean in Paragraph 5?
A.Peace. B.Humour. C.Agreement. D.Achievement.
36.Which of the following would the writer probably agree with?
A.Finishing big tasks without breaks.
B.Being kind to yourself to cut stress.
C.Using phone reminders for plans.
D.Being hard on yourself after mistakes.
【答案】33.A 34.C 35.D 36.B
33.根据第二段“For many people, getting started is the hardest step towards finishing a task.”
34.根据第四段“If you have to do something you don’t like, try pairing it with something you do enjoy.”
36.根据原文“If you forget something or make a mistake, treat yourself with kindness. Studies show that being kind to yourself can help you feel less stressed”可知,善待自己可以减轻压力,由此确定答案B;A不休息完成任务、D犯错后苛责自己,和原文观点相反;C只是部分学生的选择,并非作者认同的核心观点,排除。
D
A study published just last month, in April 2025, showed that 164 children from ages 7-10 put more trust in the search engines (引擎) all the time than in asking a person-and that trust increases as children get older.
Interestingly, when kids were asked whether a person or a search engine would be better at predicting the future, they showed less trust in general, but still preferred searching for answers online.
Why? Many answered that the search engine has a lot of information. Still, they didn’t consider what they’re missing: not only the chance to discuss with a real person, but more basically, the deepening of their relationships.
This isn’t just about how long kids can stay focused. Pioneering research from Dr. Rachel Romeo’s team at Harvard shows that the quality of child-adult conversation directly shapes brain development, especially in areas responsible for focus, critical thinking, and emotion management. Their functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) (功能磁共振成像) studies show that kids who have more interactive (互动的) conversations show stronger brain connections between language and decision-making areas. These conversations do more than build brains, though. They’re key to strengthening (加强) the connections between children and their parents.
Consider the difference between 1. sitting quietly without saying a word; 2. asking, “When are you going to finish your homework?”; and 3. asking, “Why do you think your friend is having so much trouble?” In the first two situations, kids aren’t given the chance to think through their ideas, nor do they get the chance to spend time learning how we or others think. That’s not the way to build their skill of seeing things from others’ viewpoints and their feelings of connectedness. In an increasingly separated world, that level of connectedness is key. It’s a quality we need to get back.
A 2024 article by Dubinsky and Hamid found that children learn best when allowed to grapple with challenging ideas in an active learning environment. These environments give them more control and also encourage their curiosity and drive. Yet today’s “just search online”culture steals this key cognitive (认知的) exercise from them and takes away that more active and positive effort.
37.Why does the writer compare three situations in Paragraph 5?
A.To stress the importance of silence in child development.
B.To criticize parents for asking too many questions about homework.
C.To argue that children should avoid interacting with adults altogether.
D.To show how conversations influence children’s ability to understand others.
38.What does the word “grapple” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean?
A.Use search engines. B.Avoid hard tasks.
C.Try hard to solve a problem. D.Accept information.
39.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A.FMRI is unnecessary for studying brain development.
B.Kids should be encouraged to have more interactive talks with adults.
C.Modern technology has little negative influence on children’s learning.
D.Using search engines is a better way for children to learn new information.
40.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell us how search engines work effectively.
B.To tell us the role of FMRI in studying brain development.
C.To tell us modern technology has little positive influence on learning.
D.To tell us to reduce the dependence on search engines and talk to others more.
37.第五段指出三种不同沟通情形:“That’s not the way to build their skill of seeing things from others’ viewpoints and their feelings of connectedness”,这说明对话会影响孩子理解他人的能力。
38.第六段单词推测:“children learn best when allowed to grapple with challenging ideas in an active learning environment”,结合后文challenging ideas“有挑战性的想法”,grapple意思是努力设法解决问题。
39.第四段说明观点:“the quality of child‑adult conversation directly shapes brain development...They’re key to strengthening the connections between children and their parents”,由此看出作者会赞同应该鼓励孩子多和成年人进行互动交谈。
Growth is a beautiful part of life. For us students, growing doesn’t just mean getting taller.
41 It’s about becoming better learners and more confident persons.
First, let’s talk about learning. Many of us used to be afraid of speaking English in class. We were worried about making mistakes. But now, we understand that the best way to learn is to practice bravely. 42 Don’t be shy! Using apps to learn English or reading aloud at home are also great ways.
Second, our world is getting bigger. Maybe you used to only know about your village and school. Now, we learn about different cultures. 43 We also learn to ask for help politely, like, “Could you please tell me where the library is?” when we go to a new place in town.
Look around you. 44 The desk in our classroom is made of wood. The wood comes from trees. The apples we eat are grown by local farmers. Understanding this helps us see the world in a new way.
So, how have we changed? We are no longer the shy students we used to be. 45 Remember, every small step you take today will help you become a better you tomorrow.
A.For example, we know that mooncakes are not just delicious, they carry a story about the Mid-Autumn Festival.
B.We are more active and ready to face challenges.
C.It also means changing our minds and habits.
D.Just like our teacher said, we should connect what we learn with our life.
E.So, don’t be afraid to answer questions, even if your answer isn’t perfect.
F.The things we use every day are made of different materials.
【答案】41.C 42.E 43.A 44.F 45.B
C项“It also means changing our minds and habits.”
E项“So, don’t be afraid to answer questions, even if your answer isn’t perfect.”
A项“For example, we know that mooncakes are not just delicious, they carry a story about the Mid-Autumn Festival.”
F项“The things we use every day are made of different materials.”
B项“We are more active and ready to face challenges.”

Have you noticed the mornings are slowly getting lighter? Being hopeful that spring is around the corner and warmer, brighter days are ahead is a powerful feeling. This is because hope gives us the strength to be positive, even when things don’t go our way.
Hope is a positive feeling that things will get better. It’s more than just wishful thinking; hope means taking action and believing you have the power to achieve your goals. “It’s good to be hopeful,” says Jonah, aged eight, “Because it gives you a chance to be happy about things.” Charles Snyder, a psychologist (an expert in how we think) studied hopeful thinking and said it has three main parts: having a goal, thinking up different ways to achieve it and believing in yourself even when things go wrong.
Snyder called hope a “rainbow of the mind,” because it “lifts our spirits and makes us think of what is possible.” Being hopeful about something, like trying out a new sport or hobby, requires you to be brave because you’re taking a step into the unknown. This helps you work out what’s important to you, as well as making you more confident. Studies show that being hopeful also helps you learn better at school, build strong friendships and feel less stressed.
Hope is a skill you can learn. Hope expert David Feldman advises us to start by working towards a goal that’s important to you, then thinking up different ways to achieve it. So if you hope to be a chef one day, for example, aim to learn one new recipe a week. If you want to stay focused on your goal, the first step is to eat healthily and get plenty of sleep. If you start to feel hopeless, get inspired by people who have already succeeded or tell someone who supports you so they can help you improve. Finally, make use of your imagination and picture yourself achieving your goal. Picturing success in the future is hope in action.
66.What does Jonah think is the benefit of being hopeful?
67.How many main parts does hopeful thinking have?
68.Why was hope called a “rainbow of the mind”?
69.According to the passage, to stay focused on your goal, what should you do first?
70.Who do you think is always positive and hopeful around you? Why do you think so?
66.It gives you a chance to be happy about things. 67.Three. 68.Because it lifts our spirits and makes us think of what is possible. 69.Eat healthily and get plenty of sleep. 70.My mother is always positive and hopeful around me. Because she always encourages me to face difficulties bravely and helps me find ways to solve problems when I am in trouble.
