We arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand. All the different smells here made us want to try the food. So we ate something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we chose was cheap and very clean. We planned to stay here for a few days and then travel to Chiangmai in the north.

(25-26八年级上·湖南岳阳·期中)Take a look at this old round structure (结构) made of earth and wood, where history comes alive. Welcome to Fujian’s tulou!
There are thousands of tulou across Fujian, with Yongding being home to 1,768 of them. They were built by the Hakka people (客家人), a group who moved from China’s central plains (中原) to the mountains in the south to avoid wars centuries ago.
Have you ever dreamed of spending a day living in a tulou? Now, that dream can come true. Shengheng Lou (升恒楼), a tulou in Yongding with nearly four centuries of history, has now become a hotel. It has been turned from an old building into a fine hotel with lots of money put into it. Last year, around 5,000 guests stayed in the hotel.
Lin Hui, the manager, understands the building and its history. She was born in 1986 inside the walls of another tulou in Yongding. According to Lin, the building will become weak if it is no longer in use. Every space in a tulou is connected, so if one room becomes weak, the nearby rooms can also fall.
The rebuilding fixed the old problems and also added important things like toilets. Steel was added to make the mostly wooden building stronger.
In Fujian, 46 tulou were listed as UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) World Heritage Sites (世界遗产) in 2018 because of their historical value, including 23 tulou in Yongding. Lin Shangkang, a 52-year-old local man, lives in another World Heritage site, Zhencheng Lou (振成楼). He works as a tour guide to his home. “I never get tired of telling visitors about the history of this place; I enjoy it,” Lin said. His great-grandfather and his brothers built the building a century ago. Today, the tulou is still home to 18 families. Together, there are about 80 people living there.
Zeng Jieshan, a 16-year-old high school student from Shenzhen, Guangdong, traveled four hours by train to experience the tulou up close. “I used to think ancient buildings were mostly temples or royal palaces, like the Forbidden City,” Zeng said. “But here in the tulou, people still live happily.”
1.How many tulou are there in Yongding?
A.1,768 B.5,000 C.46
2.When did they list 46 tulou as World Heritage Sites?
A.In 2023. B.In 2020. C.In 2018.
3.What influence can we know from the listing of tulou as UNESCO World Heritage Sites?
A.The number of people living in tulou dropped a lot.
B.The tourism value of tulou went up.
C.The architectural style of tulou changed little by little.

A.To make the tulou look better.
B.To make the tulou stronger against earthquakes.

Why? A new study from the University of Chicago shows that these people feel unsafe when they meet people they don’t know well. They are afraid to talk to new people.
But don’t worry. There are some ways to solve these problems. First, we should be brave enough to step out of our comfort zones (舒适圈). Second, we should accept social invitations, even if we don’t really want to. Making friends online is not enough for most people to develop true friends. Finally, we need to take action actively. As the old saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.” We need to talk to others actively and try to meet people with similar interests. If you are shy, start by saying “hello” to others with a smile. You can also join some clubs you are interested in. In this way, you can meet people whose hobbies are the same as yours.
We should keep trying to make friends. It may be hard at first. But if we follow these steps and try to be brave, we can find good friends.

(25-26八年级上·湖南衡阳·期中)Have you ever woken up early in the morning and heard birds singing loudly? Before the sun rises, they start making noise—like a lively morning party!
There are about 10,000 species (种类) of birds in the world. Songbirds make up nearly half of them. They usually start singing as early as 4 a.m.
Do you know why birds start singing so early? Firstly, they sing to find a mate (配偶). Birds choose mates by their songs because a good song means a healthy and strong mate. Birds also sing to let others know who’s around and where their homes are. Each bird has its own way of singing. One bird might sing “tweet-tweet-trill”, while another goes “chirp-chirp-peep”.
There was a common idea that birds sang a lot in the morning because there was less wind and air movement during the time so that their sounds could travel farther. But this idea was disproven (被推翻) by scientists in 2003. They played recorded bird songs during the morning and at noon. The study found that morning songs didn’t travel farther, but the quiet morning air made them sound clearer—like when you are talking in a quiet room!
Next time you hear birds singing in the morning, remember, they’re not just making noise. They’re talking to each other, looking for love, and protecting their home.
1.What’s probably the number of songbird species?
A.About 5,000. B.About 7,000. C.About 10,000.

The sun bear (马来熊) is the smallest member of the bear family. It grows to about half the size of the American black bear. An adult sun bear is from 1 to 1.4 meters long and weighs from 25 to 65 kilos.
The name “sun bear” comes from the U-shaped mark on its chest (胸膛). This kind of bear is also known as the “honey bear” because of its love of honey. It has a soft nose and a long tongue. The tongue can be up to 25 cm long. It is long enough to reach honeycombs for honey.
The sun bear mainly lives in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. It is not a big meat-eater. It feeds on sweet fruit, honey, eggs, birds and other small animals. Unlike other bears, the sun bear doesn’t hibernate (冬眠) because it is easy for it to get food all year round.
With only 600 to 1,000 left in the wild in the rainforests of Southeast Asia, the sun bear is in great danger now. The rainforests where sun bears live are becoming smaller and smaller because people are cutting down trees and using the land for farming. The bears are also killed because their meat is delicious. Let’s Protect Wild Animals
The earth is home to both humans and animals. But today wild animals are facing serious problems.
Many animals have less living space because people cut down forests. Some are even killed for their fur or meat, so their numbers are dropping fast.
To help them, we should set up more wildlife parks to keep them safe. Governments need to make strict laws to stop hunting. We can also tell more people how important it is to protect wildlife.
I hope humans and animals can live in peace on the same beautiful earth.

Monday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful and amazing! The places here are interesting! We visited the famous market on water and bought a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit.
(25-26八年级上·湖南永州·期中)Friends are very important in our lives. We all need to share happiness and sadness with our friends. Friends also help us grow. We learn from each other and become better through friendships. However, some people find it hard to make friends.

Ms. Wang, 72 years old, lives in Beijing. She made friends with three other women: Ms. Li, Ms. Zhang, and Ms. Zhao — at a community garden five years ago. Every morning, they meet at the garden to do tai chi (太极拳) together. These four friends also help each other in many ways. “They are like my family, ” Ms. Li said. “I don’t know what I would have done without them.”
Another group of elderly friends in Shanghai formed (成立) a “book club” three years ago. Every Saturday afternoon, they meet at a community center to read and discuss books. Most of the books they read are about Chinese history or traditional culture. Mr. Chen said, “We also share our own stories and experiences while talking about the books. It’s very interesting. ”
Many communities in China are now encouraging elderly people to make friends.
