When he was a teenager, Patch Adams was very unhappy, and he spent many years in a special hospital for people with mental (精神的) health problems.
When he left the hospital, Adams decided to become a doctor, so he went to a medical school in Virginia, the USA. But when he was there, he did things in a different way. For example, he didn’t like the doctors’ white coats, so he wore shirts with flowers on them when he visited his patients, and he tried to make them laugh. The doctors at the medical school didn’t like Adams because he was too different.
Adams believed that people in hospital needed more than just medicine. He saw unhappy and lonely people, and he tried to help them. Have you ever wondered why so many fresh ideas come from teenagers? A recent study gives part of the answer. Researchers at the University of Cambridge studied over people aged 12 to 65 and tested their ability in “divergent thinking” -producing many different ideas for one problem. The result was clear: people between 14 and 19 scored the highest.
To learn more, the team gave teenagers and adults several real-life tasks, such as reducing food waste at school and helping old people use smartphones. ▲ In one task, students had to suggest ways to reduce leftover (剩余的) food in the dining hall. Teenagers came up with 35% more possible solutions than adults.
Scientists believe this is partly because the teenage brain is still developing, especially the prefrontal cortex(前额皮质). As a result, teenagers are often more open to unusual ideas and less afraid of making mistakes. However, the researchers also found that the best answers were not only new but useful. When teachers checked the ideas, many teen answers were simple enough to use in daily life.
The study has inspired schools to rethink how they teach. Instead of only giving students facts, more schools are asking them to join in projects and solve real problems in their communities. In several pilot schools, participation in such projects increased by 18% in one term. The message is clear: when teenagers are trusted and guided, their creativity can make everyday life better.

40.What is the best title for the passage?
A. How Adults Can Learn to Be Creative B. The Teenage Brain: Built for Creativity
