Saihanba is China’s largest man-made forest. Saihanba means “beautiful and high mountains”.
Around the 10th century, the rulers of the Liao Dynasty made it a royal (皇家的) hunting place because it was home to beautiful forests, green grassland, clear lakes and different kinds of wild animals. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty liked Saihanba so much that he made hunting there a royal festival. The royal festival finally stopped because of no money and it had to be open to the public. After that, the cutting down of trees and wildfires changed green Saihanba into gray deserts. By the 1950s, the beauty of Saihanba had completely disappeared with only one tree left. The tree is now famous as “the Tree of Honor”.
On seeing the tree, Chinese scientists made up their minds and dreamed of restoring (使恢复) Saihanba. In February, 1962, plans were made and more than 120 foresters joined 242 local people in Saihanba to begin rebuilding it. Over the next few decades, those first tree-planters fought against many difficulties to continue planting trees. After their deaths, their children and relatives followed them and went on with their hard work of planting trees.
Today, the scientists’ dream has come true and beautiful grassland and flowers appear again around the Tree of Honor. Chinese people have successfully changed Saihanba in the past years.
32. Why did the rulers of the Liao Dynasty make Saihanba a royal hunting place?
A. Because it was close to the capital. B. Because it had rich natural resources.

A. It became a famous forest park. B. It was covered with green grassland.
C. It turned into gray deserts with one tree left. D. It was rebuilt by Chinese scientists.

Reading has always been an important part of human history. From ancient scrolls to modern e-books, the way we read has changed a lot. But one thing remains the same: reading is one of the best ways to learn and grow.
Many successful people share a common habit—they love reading. Bill Gates reads about 50 books a year. Former President Barack Obama reads for one hour every night. Even busy doctors and scientists make time to read.
So why is reading so important? First, reading expands our knowledge. A single book can take us to places we have never been and show us worlds we never knew existed. Through reading, we can learn about history, science, art, and different cultures. Second, reading improves our thinking skills. When we read, we have to understand new ideas and connect them with what we already know. This makes our brains stronger and sharper. Third, reading helps us communicate better. The more we read, the better our vocabulary becomes. We learn new ways to express ourselves, which is useful in both speaking and writing. Fourth, reading reduces stress. When we get lost in a good book, we forget about our worries for a while. This is like a mini-vacation for our minds.
In today’s digital age, we are surrounded by short messages and videos. While these have their uses, they cannot replace the deep learning that comes from reading a book. So, let’s make reading a daily habit. Even 20 minutes a day can make a big difference in the long run.
36. According to the passage, how does reading help our brains?
A. It makes us tired. B. It helps us sleep better.
C. It improves our thinking skills. D. It makes us forget things.
37. What does the underlined word “expands” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Makes smaller. B. Makes larger or greater.
C. Makes faster. D. Makes slower.
38. Why does the writer say reading is like a mini-vacation?
A. Because we can travel while reading. B. Because we forget our worries when reading.
C. Because books are expensive. D. Because we read on vacation.
39. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. E-books are much better than ancient scrolls.
B. Short messages can take the place of book reading.
C. Reading 20 minutes daily will help us a lot in the future.
D. Only successful people should develop reading habits.
40. What is the writer’s attitude towards reading in the digital age?
A. Negative. B. Uncertain. C. Positive. D. Worried.
第二节 阅读表达(共5个小题,每小题2分,共10分)
阅读短文,简略回答问题。
Villages in China have enjoyed their development in a digital way in recent years. With the help of digital technology, villagers are living an easier and happier life.
Farming in the past was not an easy job. Farmers worked hard all year round. At the same time, they usually found it difficult to solve problems like plant diseases and pests (害虫). Now, there have been big changes in farming. For example, in Dayi County, Sichuan, there are 13 digital farms with AI machines. These machines help local farmers know when and how to fertilize (施肥) their crops and kill pests. In this way, they make farmers work more easily with less time and energy.
Thanks to the internet, a new business called rural e-commerce grows. Selling fresh fruit and vegetables to cities is faster. In the past, it was hard for people in cities to know what villagers planted. Now, they can buy them easily over the phones. The business also helps villagers live a digital life. They can get many things done on different kinds of apps. They can also use drones (无人机) to help with their farm work.
More visitors travel to beautiful villages because of digital technology. A good example is Huacheng Town, Guangdong. To let more people know its culture and attract more visitors, it turns into a “digital town”. Visitors can know where to park their cars for free, when to book a ticket easily and what to buy online. They can also enjoy the view of nearly every part of the town by using VR technology.

A. Negative. B. Uncertain. C. Positive. D. Worried.
【答案】36. C 37. B 38. B 39. C 40. C
