When you picture a day of hiking with children, you probably imagine a magical place. But the truth is that hiking with children is not always all sunshine and roses. So start by knowing your child’s hiking limits (极限) to make sure of a successful and enjoyable hike that they’ll remember.
Start small. Hiking is fun but it can be hard work for small bodies. Just as you wouldn’t run a marathon without training, you can’t expect your child to hike a long trail (路径) the first time out. Start your kids hiking with a small nature trail, then each trip adds a little more distance.
Be flexible (可变通的). There is no rule that you must get to that waterfall. When hiking with kids, it’s about the journey, not the end. As adults, we easily become end-driven hikers, and that’s exactly what can make the hike less enjoyable for your child, who wants to explore and take their time.
Choose a kid-friendly destination (目的地). Your children might enjoy climbing over big stones more than sitting to admire a calm lake. Or running in a big open field might be more interesting than staring at a distant mountain when hiking with kids. Kid-friendly hikes will encourage more future hiking from your children.
▲ . Set a family goal with a reward for miles hiked over a period of time. You can make it over a vacation, or over the whole summer. Your hiking kids should help set the goal and then update the chart after each hike. Children love seeing their progress in full color.
One of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child is love and respect for nature. Those early hikes you take as a family set the stage for a lifetime of exploration and joy. So get out and start hiking with children as early as possible. And know it’s never too late!
49. Who is the passage probably written to?
A. Children. B. Parents. C. Students. D. Teachers.

A. To provide the background. B. To lead into the subject.

B. Ask your hiking kids to help others in need on the way.
C. Make a chart at home to record your hiking miles.

52. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. How to make the hiking successful and enjoyable. B. When to get out and start hiking with children.
C. Where to go and explore with hiking children. D. What to give children while a family’s hiking.

As they were looking up at the ceiling (天花板), they saw thousands of bats hanging there. They were so afraid that they began to walk quickly toward the other side of the room. They decided to take another path, because they thought it was unsafe to go back through the room full of bats.
However, as they walked on, they found they were lost. Becky started to cry wildly.
“Surely your mother will notice tonight that you haven’t returned home,” Tom said. “She will send people out to look for you.”
Becky thought for a moment and then cried even harder. “Oh, Tom. She thinks I’m staying at the Harpers house tonight. She won’t know I’m missing until late the next morning!”
“Alright, Becky. Let’s stop crying. We should keep walking. As long as we keep moving, there is hope.”
So they walked, not knowing where they were going. After some time, Tom had to put out the candle to save it. For much of the time, they walked in complete darkness. Tom shouted for help several times, but no one replied.
Tom had some kite string (线) in his pocket. He took it out and tied one end to a rock. Then he told Becky to sit down and wait for him. Tom lit the candle again and started along one of the paths. He did not go far when the ground in front of him suddenly dropped down into the dark hole below. He stretched his arm to feel how deep the drop was. While he was feeling around, his hand touched another hand. Tom jumped back and held up his candle to see who it was. A face appeared. It was Injun Joe.

For those whose hearts often beat irregularly, pacemakers (心脏起搏器) are lifesavers. By sending small electrical signals (电信号) at the right time, they can keep a heart working properly.
Their main problem lies in their batteries (电池). Even the best batteries will run out of power, and replacing them needs operations (手术). Since doctors try to avoid unnecessary operations, scientists have kept searching for longer-lasting batteries. Many ways have been tried over the years. At present, pacemakers with lithium (锂) batteries can work for 5 to 15 years.
Zhang Hao from Shanghai Second Military Medical University and Yang Bin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University tried a new method. They want to charge a pacemaker’s battery using energy inside the human body. They reported in the magazine ACS Nano that they make use of the heart muscle (肌肉) to produce power.
Earlier scientists tried to use heart power for pacemakers with piezoelectric materials (压电材料). When these materials are slightly deformed (稍微弯曲) and connected to a beating heart, they can create electricity. The method works, but it is not good enough. The power output is seldom over 5 microwatts (微瓦), while most pacemakers need at least 10 microwatts.
Dr. Zhang and Dr. Yang thought they could make progress. If they let the piezoelectric materials bend (弯曲) more greatly, they could produce 15 microwatts. The more the materials are deformed, the more electricity they will make. They tested their idea on a 50kg pig. It produced enough electricity for the pacemaker to work as expected.
We still don’t know whether the method will succeed in human tests. But if it works, people may no longer need operations to change pacemaker batteries in the future.
57. What is a problem with pacemakers according to the first two paragraphs?
A. They often go off beat.
B. Their energy can be used up.
C. Operations often influence them.
D. They sometimes do harm to hearts.
58. What do we know about piezoelectric materials from this passage?
A. They can be used to produce electricity.
B. They can deform the heart to make it beat faster.
C. They were first used by Zhang Hao and Yang Bin.
D. They are useless at all for patients.
59. If piezoelectric materials are more greatly deformed, how many microwatts can they produce?
A. 5 microwatts. B. 100 microwatts. C. 15 microwatts. D. 150 microwatts.
60. What is the best title for this article?
A. No Need to Use Pacemakers
B. The Problem with Piezoelectric Materials

Xiaohongshu—Maybe Your New Guide
It was a rainy day, but more than 20 tourists at Singapore’s Fort Canning Tree Tunnel were full of excitement. Most of them came from China. One of them was 25-year-old Liu Meifeng. She waited eagerly (满心期待地) for her turn to pose for photos. It was her first trip to Singapore. She found this spot with the help of recommendations on Xiaohongshu.
As one of China’s most popular social media platforms, Xiaohongshu has turned some little-known places into popular tourist sights. Fort Canning Tree Tunnel is a good example. Professional nature photographers know this place well, but local people seldom regard it as a tourist attraction. Liu loved the place and thought of Xiaohongshu as her tour guide. After taking photos, she posted them on the app to share with other users.
Vissy Chow also stood in the long queue. The tree tunnel was the first place she visited on her first trip to Singapore. The 20-year-old followed a travel route recommended on Xiaohongshu. “It is not as wonderful as I expected. But since I have come here, I may as well wait in line and take some photos,” she said.
Only one subway stop away, some other Chinese tourists were taking photos in front of the Old Hill Street Police Station. This building also appears in many posts on Xiaohongshu. People call it the “Rainbow Police Station” because of its colourful windows.
Eleven-year-old Amy Lee visited the place with her mother. Earlier that day, they had been to the National Gallery. “If you go there, you will see plenty of Chinese tourists,” the mother said. “With Xiaohongshu, we no longer need tour guides. We know exactly where to ‘da ka’ (check in)! It introduces beautiful and special places that are not famous in guidebooks. We can also read real visitors’ advice and get clear travel routes easily.”
66. Was Fort Canning Tree Tunnel a popular tourist attraction before?

Do you ever hope you could have more time? Everyone has 24 hours each day. But here are some ways to help you use your time more efficiently (有效率地).
Set priorities (设定优先级). Setting priorities is the best way to manage your time exactly. Consider whether your tasks are important or not and find out which one should be done right away.
Make a timetable. Decide what you’re going to do at a certain time each day. A well-organized timetable can not only help you improve your working speed but also make you feel less stressed.
Choose a suitable time. Think about the time when you have the most energy during the day. Are you more energetic in the morning or afternoon? Do hard work when you feel good and leave simple ones when you are tired.
Make lists. Write down when to do and what to do. I keep two to-do lists: one for aims of today and the other for the projects I’m working on. The lists remind me that I won’t forget anything. They also help me pay more attention to the shorter list.
Give up something. Managing time sometimes means giving up doing something you like. When you’re ready to start a new task, think carefully. Is it really worth spending your time? Could someone else do it instead?
As a saying goes, “Work smarter, not harder.” If you want to make full use of your time, make a plan and stick to it.
Everyone has the same time each day, but how to use it wisely? Here are some ways to ____________79____________. First, do important tasks first. Second, plan your day to work faster and reduce stress. Third, choose the time when you are ____________80____________ to do hard work. Fourth, ____________81____________. One is for today’s tasks; the other is for larger projects. Fifth, stop doing tasks that are not worth your time or that others can do instead. Today I want to talk about something very important, traffic safety. I am very serious about following traffic rules. It's not just a matter of convenience, but a matter of life and death. Traffic accidents happen all the time around us. One of the most common reasons is that drivers are careless. They may drive too fast or not pay enough attention to the road signs and other cars. This kind of carelessness can lead to car accidents. When we're walking on the street, we need to be careful. When crossing the street, we should always look in both directions. Many accidents happen because people are in a hurry and don't take the time to check traffic. In a word, whether you are a driver or someone walking, we both need to take traffic safety seriously, so please always remember to be careful and follow the traffic rules.
A. Children. B. Parents. C. Students. D. Teachers.
50. What’s the purpose of writing Paragraph 1?
A. To provide the background. B. To lead into the subject.
C. To compare differences. D. To give good examples.
51. Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ?
A. Make a shopping list to record what you’ll buy.
B. Ask your hiking kids to help others in need on the way.
C. Make a chart at home to record your hiking miles.
D. Ask your hiking kids to color the map of hiking places.
52. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. How to make the hiking successful and enjoyable. B. When to get out and start hiking with children.
C. Where to go and explore with hiking children. D. What to give children while a family’s hiking.
【答案】49. B 50. B 51. C 52. D

C. The Contribution of Chinese Scientists to Heart Operations
D. Chinese Scientists Found a New Way to Improve Pacemakers
【答案】57. B 58. A 59. C 60. D

All in all, ____________82____________ can make you use time better.
