SY英语·第1页共6页
book named Tao Te Ching from onc of the shelves. As an 8-year-old,the book's content completcly
confused me,but it provided me with an carly conncction to a beautiful and great philosophical
tradition that still influences me today.
Around this time,I also came across several cartoons heavily inspired by traditional Chinese culture
and martial arts such as Avatar:The Last Airbender and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat.Both cartoons
describe beautiful landscapes and buildings similar to thosc found in classical Chinese paintings. This
further developed my love of the rich and beautiful culture.
At school I began studying Chinese. My interest in the language developed carly on,combining my
love of travelling with my love of meeting new pcople.Later on,my interest in the language developed
into exploring widespread Chinese culture.I wanted to challenge myself in a totally new linguistic
landscape and listen to the lives and stories of others in their own language.I have been lucky cnough
to have lived in China for around three years.I loved every second I spent there and there is never a
shortage of things to see and do.people to mcet.and foods to enjoy.
It is safe to say that my journey to studying Chinese has only just begun and these first steps are only

Sitting at your desk all day may put you at greater risk of heart disease-even if you work out in
your spare time, according to new research.
"Our findings really emphasize the importance of avoiding long-time sitting whether or not you're
physically active,”said first study author Dr..Ezim Ajufo,a cardiology(心脏病学)fellow at Brigham and
Women's Hospital in Boston. And as Dr.Keith Diaz,an associate professor of behavioral medicine who
was not involved in the research, said,"While there is a gencral understanding that sitting too much is
likely bad for your health, there's a need for more research to understand the exact risks and the guidelines
SY英霜·第2页共6页
for what qualifics as too much sitting."
Researchers looked at data from nearly90,O00 pcople who wore an accelerometer(加速度计)fora
weck and compared their sedentary and active time with later diagnoses of conditions like stroke, heart
attack and beart failure in later years. Not only was more sedentary time associated with a greater risk of
cardiovascular disease, but the data was able to show a gencral guideline for what might count as too much
sitting,according to the study.
If you sit in an officc all day and commute to and from work, those ten and a half hours of sitting can
add up quickly. The important thing is to add movement into your day in a way that makes sense for you
and your schedule,Diaz added. He recommended getting up and walking for just a few minutes every half
hour to hour or when you finish one task before moving to the next.
"Somctimes we think we can completely make up for some of the unhealthy behaviors we have by
going out and going for a run.Unfortunately, the data suggested a good workout at the end of the day
won't necessurily solve the problems caused by long periods of sitting,"Ajufo said."But don't be
disheartened. It still bencfits people in so many ways. You're still better off than the person who sits all
day and doesn't play sports,"Diaz said.

A.By studying data from the paticnts in Boston.
B.By tracking the diet and lifestyle of almost 90.000 people.
C.By analyzing data from pcople wearing accelcrometers.
D.By surveying the exercise frequency of those with heart disease.
10.What does the underlined word"It"in the last paragraph refer to?

When the food we order at a restaurant arrives, the first thing most of us want to do is enjoy it right
away. But for every person who just wants to cat their meal, there's another who insists on taking at least
five photos of their food to share on social media.
While this may seem like a recent phenomenon,"foodtography"has been around for longer than one
would cxpect.Take US photographer Irving Penn (1917-2009)for example. In 1947,Yogue magazinc
published a series of food shots taken by Penn.Looking at the carefully placed salad or the series of cakes
on stands,it would be casy to think Penn's 73-year-old photos were taken just last weck.
Penn's efforts aside,it seems that social media is behind the recent rise of foodtography.Today.if a
social media star with thousands of followers posts just one delicious-looking food picture and mentions
SY英语·第3页共6页
where it was taken,it can lcad to bundreds of new customers for the restaurant or cafe. One such star is
Clerkenwell Boy,based in London, whose Instagram account is followed by over 100.000 people.
Yet with popularity, the social media star tries to use his influence for good by encouraging pcople not
to waste food.Research carried out carlier this year by UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's,published in
The Guardian found that 55 percent of the 18 to 34-year-olds it surveyed were more likely to"try unusual
recipes to create Instagram-friendly dishes"than others, leading to increased food waste."I hate it like a
huge pile of seven burgers photographed just for likes. Are they going to just throw that away now?"
Clerkenwell Boy told The Guardian.
So while it's fun to share photos of delicious dishes with your friends, just remember the most
important thing:Don't forget to eat your meal afterwards.
