Shigeru Ban is one of the most clever architects who knows how to recognize pressing problems and come up with the best solutions for them. Shigeru Ban is a Japanese architect born in Tokyo in 1957, he founded Shigeru Ban Architects in 1985 and has since then expanded branches from Tokvo to New York and Paris. His career has spanned over various architectural fields from commercial spaces to museums, but his disaster relief (救灾) work shines the most. He set a new standard for socially-aware and emergent (紧急的) architecture and paved the way for teaching the whole world how building skills can help in times of crises. His unique method earned him the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2014, where he was honored for his devotion to designing shelters for disaster-stricken areas. He is highly praised for showing how architecture can be a tool for positive social change, particularly in his attention to using materials and attending to social needs. In a 2017 interview, Shigeru Ban was asked about what guided him towards being involved with disaster relief architecture. His replies detailed that there seemed to be a lack of social responsibility among architects in Japan regarding this matter, so he felt the urge to take action. After the Kobe earthquake in 1995, Ban saw the poor living conditions related to evacuation centers and wanted to make a change with architecture. Following this event, he established the Voluntary Architects’ Network (VAN) to provide support to disaster-affected areas worldwide. When asked whether his initiatives were inspired by Japan’s continuous risk for earthquakes and volcano eruptions, he explained that his motivation (动力) comes from a desire to improve living conditions for disaster victims rather than Japan’s geographic risks. He’s a man with a skill for identifying problems and finding solutions. 4. What does the underlined word “expanded” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Organized. B. Enlarged. C. Strengthened. D. Tracked. 5. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The new standard Ban set for architecture. B. The creative use of materials in Ban’s design. C. The achievements of Ban’s disaster relief work. D. The reasons Ban designed shelters for the homeless. 6. What was Ban’s motivation for disaster relief work? A. His skills in dealing with natural disaster. B. His terrible suffering in a natural disaster. C. His concern about Japan’s geographic risks. D. His desire to improve the life of those in need. 7. Which of the following can best describe Shigeru Ban? A. Caring and creative. B. Responsible but impolite. C. Selfless but careless. D. Talented and outgoing. B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据划线词所在句“he founded Shigeru Ban Architects in 1985 and has since then expanded branches from Tokyo to New York and Paris.(他于1985年创立了Shigeru Ban Architects,并从此将分支机构从东京expanded到纽约和巴黎)”可知,Shigeru Ban初创于东京,后来在纽约和巴黎建立了分支机构,即他的公司规模变大了,故划线词expanded意思是“扩大”,与B项Enlarged同义。 根据第三段“He set a new standard for socially-aware and emergent (紧急的) architecture and paved the way for teaching the whole world how building skills can help in times of crises. His unique method earned him the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2014, where he was honored for his devotion to designing shelters for disaster-stricken areas. He is highly praised for showing how architecture can be a tool for positive social change, particularly in his attention to using materials and attending to social needs.(他为具有社会意识和紧急情况的建筑设立了一个新的标准,并为向全世界传授建筑技能如何在危机时刻提供帮助铺平了道路。 根据最后一段中“he explained that his motivation (动力) comes from a desire to improve living conditions for disaster victims rather than Japan’s geographic risks.(他解释说,他的动力来自于改善灾难受害者的生活条件,而不是日本的地理风险)”可知,Ban参与救灾工作的动力是改善灾难受害者的生活条件。 根据第四段中“In a 2017 interview, Shigeru Ban was asked about what guided him towards being involved with disaster relief architecture. His replies detailed that there seemed to be a lack of social responsibility among architects in Japan regarding this matter, so he felt the urge to take action.(在 2017 年的一次采访中,Shigeru Ban被问到是什么引导他参与救灾建筑。他很详细地作出回答,在这件事上,日本的建筑师们似乎缺乏社会责任感,所以他感到有采取行动的欲望)”和最后一段“He’s a man with a skill for identifying problems and finding solutions.(他是一个善于发现问题并找到解决方案的人)”可推知,Shigeru Ban是一个有社会责任感,关心社会的人,也是一个善于发现问题并找到解决方案,有创造力的人。故选A项。 C Western fashion brands (时尚品牌) have a design problem with Chinese characters, or hanzi. They still disappoint Chinese customers with the way they use Chinese writing on their products. The most common mistakes suggest there is not enough research and cultural understanding. For example, a Burberry scarf was embroidered (刺绣) with the Chinese character fu upright instead of upside down, as it’s traditionally shown in China. Even the fonts (字体) are a problem. In May, Dior, one of the world’s leading fashion brands, started a special service for customers to have their Chinese names embroidered on Book Tote handbags. When some Chinese stars carrying the customized handbags were shown on social media, the Chinese fashion community expressed their disappointment. Many believed the font on Dior’s handbags showed little artistic taste and looked cheap. It’s not all disappointment, though. Experimentation and careful research have brought positive results for brands coming close to hanzi. Consider the logo (标志) created for Prada Rong Zhai, an old building repaired and owned by the Prada Group in Shanghai. The Rong Zhai type was created by 2 x4 (a New York-based design studio) by using the Roman letters in the original Prada logo to create the Chinese characters. The result is a unique logo that suggests both lettered strictness and a classic Prada style. The type’s West-meet-East mix won broad admiration among Chinese customers online. One way to keep up to date is to team up with creatives and artists of the country to create designs that can be more acceptable to Chinese customers. Joining forces with local partners can also avoid misunderstandings that happen when a design team doesn't know Chinese culture very well. 8. What were the Chinese fashion community disappointed at? A. The design’s old-fashion. B. The design’s higher price. C. The design’s common font. D. The design’s ugly brand name. 9. What is special about the logo of Prada Rong Zhai? A. It brings together Western and Chinese writing. B. It is created to introduce Chinese hanzi culture. C. It was designed by online supporters of the company. D. It invited a famous Chinese star to write the characters. 10. What does the author expect Western designers to do? A. Try to create more fashionable fonts. B. Show more hanzi in Western culture. C. Find the causes of cultural differences. D. Work together with Chinese designers. 11. What does the text mainly want to tell us? A. International brands spreading Chinese culture. B. Western fashion's struggle with Chinese writing. C. Western designers' research on Chinese characters. D. The collection between Chinese customers and hanzi. C 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第二段中“When some Chinese stars carrying the customized handbags were shown on social media, the Chinese fashion community expressed their disappointment. Many believed the font on Dior’s handbags showed little artistic taste and looked cheap.(当一些携带定制手袋的中国明星在社交媒体上展示时,中国时尚界表示失望。许多人认为迪奥手袋上的字体没有什么艺术品味,看起来很廉价)”可知,中国时尚界认为迪奥手袋上的字体太普通,看起来很廉价,对该设计感到失望。故选C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Consider the logo created for Prada Rong Zhai, an old building repaired and owned by the Prada Group in Shanghai. The Rong Zhai type was created by 2x4 (a New York-based design studio) by using the Roman letters in the original Prada logo to create the Chinese characters. The result is a unique logo that suggests both lettered strictness  and a classic Prada style. 故选A。 根据最后一段中“One way to keep up to date is to team up with creatives and artists of the country to create designs that can be more acceptable to Chinese customers. Joining forces with local partners can also avoid misunderstandings that happen when a design team doesn’t know Chinese culture very well.(跟上潮流的一种方法是与中国的创意人员和艺术家合作,创造更能被中国客户接受的设计。与当地合作伙伴合作也可以避免设计团队不太了解中国文化时产生的误解)”可推知,作者希望西方设计师与中国设计师合作,创造出更能被中国客户接受的设计,同时避免设计团队不太了解中国文化时产生的误解。故选D。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。阅读全文,尤其是文章第一段“Western fashion brands (时尚品牌) have a design problem with Chinese characters, or hanzi. They still disappoint Chinese customers with the way they use Chinese writing on their products.(西方时尚品牌存在汉字的设计问题。他们在产品上使用中文的方式仍然让中国消费者感到失望)”可知,文章主要探讨了西方时尚品牌在使用汉字设计时遇到的困境及其原因,作者主要想告诉我们西方的时尚与中国汉字之间的文化冲击。故选B。 D It’s fun to sing in the car. In a recent study, 64% of drivers said listening to music makes the driving experience better. But 54% of people said driving is less fun if they have to listen to music they don’t like. So what happens when passengers have different musical tastes than the driver does and they want to choose what to play? Many people think passengers should get a say because they also have to listen to whatever is playing. But others say the driver’s preference counts most. What do you think? Should the driver choose the car tunes? Yes - it’s an extra advantage of the job. The driver is taking the passengers where they need to go, so they should have the right to choose the tunes. They shouldn’t have to listen to something they don’t like, especially on long trips. Drivers also know what music helps them stay calm and focused, while passengers could choose music that annoys the driver. Safety isn’t a concern because the driver can set a playlist before they head out. And if the rule is that the driver always decides, there’s less chance of disagreement over what to play. No - it’s not fair or safe. The driver should be fully focused on the road, not thinking about what song to listen to next or scrolling through a playlist. Passengers, however, have their hands free, so it’s safe for them to search for and select the music. Besides, it’s not fair that only the person behind the wheel gets to choose what to listen to. Long car trips can be boring, especially for kids. If they get to pick the music they want to hear, they will have more fun and won’t fight as much. To make things better, passengers can take music requests from the driver and others in the car. That way, everyone gets a chance to share the music they love. 12. Why is it considered “an extra advantage” for the driver to choose the music? A. It makes sure of no disagreements during the trip. B. It gives the driver more rights on the car-environment. C. It makes the driver feel more important than the passengers. D. It allows the driver to create a more enjoyable driving experience. 13. What is the author’s attitude towards the choice of music? A. Objective. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Fearful. 14. What is advised to make choosing music easier in paragraph 3? A. The driver should have the final say. B. Requests from both sides are considered together. C. Only the children in the car should choose the music. D. Passengers give a music playlist to the driver before the trip. 15. How does the author develop the passage? A. By exploring views on car music choice. B. By giving facts about music and driving. C. By sharing stories about driving experiences. D. By using examples to show why music matters. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段中“Yes - it’s an extra advantage of the job. The driver is taking the passengers where they need to go, so they should have the right to choose the tunes. They shouldn’t have to listen to something they don’t like, especially on long trips. Drivers also know what music helps them stay calm and focused, while passengers could choose music that annoys the driver. (是的,这是这份工作的额外好处。司机把乘客带到他们需要去的地方,所以他们应该有选择音乐的权利。他们不应该听自己不喜欢的东西,尤其是在长途旅行中。司机也知道什么音乐能帮助他们保持冷静和专注,而乘客可能会选择让司机烦恼的音乐。)”可知,司机选择音乐会被认为是“额外的好处”是因为它可以让司机创造一个更愉快的驾驶体验。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Besides, it’s not fair that only the person behind the wheel gets to choose what to listen to. Long car trips can be boring, especially for kids. If they get to pick the music they want to hear, they will have more fun and won’t fight as much. To make things better, passengers can take music requests from the driver and others in the car. That way, everyone gets a chance to share the music they love. ( 此外,只有开车的人才能选择听什么,这是不公平的。长途汽车旅行可能很无聊,尤其是对孩子们来说。如果他们可以选择他们想听的音乐,他们会有更多的乐趣,也不会经常吵架。为了让事情变得更好,乘客可以接受司机和车内其他人的音乐要求。这样,每个人都有机会分享他们喜欢的音乐。)”可推知,作者对音乐的选择持客观的态度。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“To make things better, passengers can take music requests from the driver and others in the car. That way, everyone gets a chance to share the music they love. (为了让事情变得更好,乘客可以接受司机和车内其他人的音乐要求。这样,每个人都有机会分享他们喜欢的音乐。)”可知,在第三段中建议双方的要求将一并考虑会使选择音乐更容易。故选B项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“It’s fun to sing in the car. In a recent study, 64% of drivers said listening to music makes the driving experience better. But 54% of people said driving is less fun if they have to listen to music they don’t like. So what happens when passengers have different musical tastes than the driver does and they want to choose what to play? ( 在车里唱歌很有趣。在最近的一项研究中,64%的司机说听音乐能让驾驶体验更好。但54%的人表示,如果他们不得不听自己不喜欢的音乐,开车就不那么有趣了。那么,当乘客和司机的音乐品味不同,他们想要选择播放的音乐时,会发生什么呢?)”可推知,作者是通过探索人们对汽车音乐选择的看法来展开文章的,例如司机选择音乐的优势和乘客选择音乐的合理性。故选A项。 How to Study Less and Learn More The first thing that you need to realize is that it does not matter how long you spend studying is flawed My friend Henry and I set off on a short trip with a local as our guide. He said it would be a rather easy two-hour hike to see the Paiute trout (克拉克大马哈鱼) living in its natural living place. We believed what he had said and started out following him. But we later found it was a different story. When we three arrived at the place, Henry and I were worn out. However, we were not too tired to enjoy the excitement when we saw the colorful fish swimming freely there. I stood by the water and Henry took some photos of me with green plants and beautiful flowers. Time passed quickly. Before we knew it, it was getting late. The local guide told us that we could only appreciate the scenery (景色) for a brief while and then we had to go back to our car before dark. We had thought the rest of the hike should be relaxing. But it wasn’t as it was the steepest (最陡峭的) way that we’d faced so far. When we advanced, my huge backpack felt like a ton of stone. Both of my legs were really painful and tears ran out of my eyes. And there was another mountain ahead of us. As the sun began to set, my legs gave out completely. Seeing that, Henry asked me to take one tiny step at a time. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, we climbed over the mountain. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Seeing that, Henry asked me to take one tiny step at a time. He patiently explained that each small step would bring me closer to the end. “Don’t think about the whole journey, just focus on this single step,” he encouraged. With his words in mind, I gathered my strength and forced my trembling legs to move. Step by step, I made my way forward, ignoring the pain in my body. The local guide also stayed by my side, offering me words of comfort. Henry took my backpack, which made me feel a bit lighter. I was so exhausted that I could hardly breathe, but I didn’t give up. Finally, we climbed over the mountain. As we reached the top, a sense of achievement washed over me. I looked back at the path we had come through, feeling proud of myself for not giving up. The view from the top was breathtaking. The setting sun painted the sky in warm colors, making it a scene worth the struggle. We walked down the mountain more easily in the gentle light. When we got back to the car, I was tired but filled with joy. This experience taught me that with determination and the support of friends, we can overcome any difficulty. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解释: explain/interpret/ illustrate ②专注于: focus on /concentrate on ③忽视:ignore/neglect/overlook 情绪类 ①痛苦: pain/suffering/misery ②快乐:joy/happiness/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1]He patiently explained that each small step would bring me closer to the end. C Western fashion brands (时尚品牌) have a design problem with Chinese characters, or hanzi. D It’s fun to sing in the car. My friend Henry and I set off on a short trip with a local as our guide. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
