It’s a cold night. After cycling eight kilometers, I get to Shanghai South Railway Station. It’s 10:21 p. m., just in time to catch the last bus home. As I take out my transportation card, the driver gives me a smile and says, “You again? You always get home this late.”
I’m not surprised that he remembers me. I often take the last bus. Some nights, I’m the only passenger (乘客) the whole way.

“Oh! It’s so cold this late in this season!”
“It is,” the driver says. “But I love my job. When I was a kid, I dreamed of driving a bus. It makes me proud to get everyone to their destination safely!”

Do you see how the people who work in the fire station put out a fire when the fire breaks out in the forest? Now I’ll tell you something about smokejumpers and let you know more about them.
Smokejumpers are special firemen. They jump from planes into areas that are difficult to reach by car or on foot, like the middle of a mountain forest. They race to put out fires as fast as they can.
At a fire site, smokejumpers first check the lie (地形) of the land and decide how to fight the fire. They try their best to stop a fire from spreading (蔓延). Using their tools, smokejumpers clear burnable things like dry grass on the land. They usually take some water with them.
It’s true that most smokejumpers are men. But more women are joining. The important thing is that your height and weight (身高和体重) must be in a certain range (一定的范围). For example, smokejumpers in the U. S. must be between 55kg and 90kg in weight, so they won’t get hurt when they land, or in the strong winds.
Smokejumpers must also be able to live in the wilderness (野外). In Russia, many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and make simple tools. The work is dangerous, and the hours are long. But for smokejumpers, smokejumping isn’t just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fighting fires and living in the forest. As 28-year-old Russian smokejumper Alexi Tishin says proudly, “This is the best job for brave people.”
36. How do smokejumpers go to their work?
A. On foot. B. By train. C. By plane. D. By car.
37. What does the underlined word “burnable” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A. 坚硬的 B. 可燃的 C. 易活的 D. 可用的
38. As for smokejumpers in the U. S., ________.
A. they don’t think their work is dangerous
B. most of them are under 28 years old
C. they have the right height and weight
D. there are no women smokejumpers
39. What can we know about Alexi Tishin?
A. He loves his job. B. He is an American.
C. He works short hours. D. He is good at flying a plane.
40. According to the text, the writer may agree that ________.
A. smokejumpers are a new kind of job that many young people like
B. the smokejumpers work in communities to fight fire
C. the work of smokejumpers is interesting
D. we should be proud of smokejumpers and respect them
D
What do you usually do when you’re on the train? Take a rest, look out of the window or just use your phone? Did you ever think about what other things you could do on the train? Well, some trains in China become a place for learning about Chinese culture (文化).
Tourists on the K7041 train from Harbin to Mohe in Heilongjiang had a chance to meet five artists from the Oroqen (鄂伦春族). Gulayier Ente, one of the artists, dressed in traditional clothes and sang Oroqen songs. The beautiful music made people cheerful. “For me, this experience is wonderful. Being closer to tourists and chatting with them helped us all enjoy ourselves,” said Gulayier.
The train started running in January, 2025 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. During the train journey, artists showed their skills like making birch bark (桦树皮) paintings besides singing and dancing. “We can watch special shows and learn about Chinese culture. It’s really exciting!” said Ms. Zhang, a tourist from Guizhou.
In fact, there are more Chinese art shows on trains, including Qinhuai lanterns from Nanjing and tea-picking operas (采茶戏) from Guangxi, and so on. Trains go across most areas of China, so they are great for sharing Chinese culture with more people. Different from museums, trains can bring cultural experiences directly to people.
However, there are still some difficulties. For example, the space on trains is a little small, and people get on and off at each station. Train workers need to work harder to integrate (融入) Chinese culture into train journeys.
41. How does the writer start the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving examples.
C. By asking questions. D. By showing pictures.
42. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. Chinese culture comes to life on the train.
B. People on the train are interested in beautiful traditional clothes.
C. Tourists from other countries enjoy their trip to China.
D. Music is a great way to kill time on the train.
43. How did Ms. Zhang feel on the K7041 train?
A. Bad. B. Excited. C. Lucky. D. Tired.
44. What’s the purpose (目的) of the text?
A. To tell people trains are a comfortable way to travel.
B. To show the beautiful nature tourists can see on trains.
C. To ask more people to learn to make birch bark paintings.
D. To show trains can be a bridge between people and culture.
45. What may the writer talk about in the next paragraph?
A. What tourists think of the artists’ shows.
B. When tourists can enjoy the Chinese culture.
C. Why Chinese culture is important to the world.
D. How to better show Chinese culture on trains.

Everyone has a dream job, and mine is to be an excellent doctor.
There are two reasons why I like it. First, doctors can help sick people get well and save their lives. Second, I think it is a meaningful job that can make a difference to society. To achieve my dream, I must take action now. On the one hand, I will study hard to get more medical knowledge. On the other hand, I plan to exercise every day to build a strong body.
With hard work and passion, I believe I can make it in the future.
