Read the model on p. 92. It is told by a Greek soldier who was inside the horse. Find the three parts, then answer in short notes. Part What does the writer include? Setting the scene Time or weather: _________________________________ Problem and feelings: ______________________________ Developing the story The plan: ________________________________________ One action that makes the plan work: _________________ Ending the story What the soldiers can finally do: _____________________ How they feel: ____________________________________ Why is “We waited quietly for the right moment” more useful than “We were clever”? ________________________________________________________________________________ Whose feelings can this narrator describe most directly? _________________________________ 二 把评价写成看得见的动作 6分钟 Improve each weak sentence. Add ONE useful detail, not a string of adjectives. 1. He was clever. → He noticed ____________________, so he __________________________. 2. I was nervous. → I __________________________________________ and waited quietly. 3. We won. → When ______________________________, we finally ____________________. Does “Everyone was very clever and very happy” explain how the problem was solved? What is missing? _______________________________________________________________ 三 先搭故事骨架 6分钟 Writing task: The school storybook needs a short story about wisdom. Choose a familiar ancient story and write 100–120 words. Use the simple past for the main events. Option A Retell a story you know well. Choose one narrator and keep that viewpoint. Option B Use the story notes below if you need support. In this traditional story, Cao Cao wanted to know an elephant’s weight. There were no scales large enough. His young son Cao Chong had an idea. People led the elephant onto a boat and marked the water level. They took the elephant off, then added stones until the boat reached the same mark. They weighed the stones in smaller groups and added the weights together. 词语支架 scales 秤;weight 重量;mark the water level 标记水位;weigh the stones 称石头;add the weights together 把重量相加。 My title: ______________________________ My narrator: I / a third-person narrator Story part My plan in key words Beginning Who and where? ___________________________________ What was the problem? ______________________________ Middle What did the person notice? __________________________ Action 1: _________________________________________ Action 2: _________________________________________ Why did it work? ___________________________________ Ending Result: ___________________________________________ One feeling or meaningful comment: ___________________ Useful links at first; then; after that; until; because; in the end. Choose links that show a real relationship. Do not begin every sentence with “Then”. Viewpoint check Can my narrator know each detail? A soldier may describe what he saw, heard or felt; he cannot directly read another person’s mind. Write 100–120 words. Include the problem, the steps of the plan, its result, and at least two details of action, feeling or speech. Make the clever idea understandable. Title: _________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ 五 读者检查与二次修改 6分钟 Exchange with your partner. Tick only what you can find: [ ] clear problem [ ] clear steps and result [ ] two useful details [ ] consistent viewpoint and past tense. Ask one useful question: “Why did ____________________?” or “How did ____________________?” My original sentence: ______________________________________________________________ My improved sentence: _____________________________________________________________ Reason for the change: _____________________________________________________________ 课后选做 Write a new opening from another character’s viewpoint. Keep the central events unchanged. Setting:another hot and dry summer;the Greeks still could not capture Troy after ten years;they were tired of war and missed home。Developing:build a horse and hide soldiers inside;wait quietly;climb out and open the gate at night。Ending:they capture Troy and can finally go home;the Greeks feel happy。 “We waited quietly for the right moment”给出可观察的行动和时机,读者能据此理解谨慎与计划。“We were clever”只有评价,没有解释。 1. He noticed the water level, so he marked it on the side of the boat. 2. I held my breath and waited quietly. 3. When the gate opened, we finally entered the city. The steps and the reason why the plan worked are missing. Title:Cao Chong weighs an elephant。Narrator:third person。Beginning:an elephant near a river;no scales large enough。Middle:notice the boat’s water level;mark it;replace the elephant with stones;weigh and add the stones’ weights。Ending:find the elephant’s weight;people are surprised and pleased。 Cao Chong weighs an elephant One day, Cao Cao wanted to know an elephant’s weight. However, no scales were large enough. While the adults were worrying, young Cao Chong watched a boat by the river. “I have an idea,” he said. First, people led the elephant onto the boat and marked the water level. Then they took it off and filled the boat with stones until the water reached the same mark. They weighed the stones in smaller groups and added the weights together. At last, they knew the elephant’s weight. Everyone looked at the boy in surprise. His simple plan solved a difficult problem. Sometimes, a different way of thinking makes all the difference. 结尾给出结果和人物反应,而不是只写“He was very clever”。 人物说话的直接引语“I have an idea”可以使用一般现在时;叙述中的wanted、watched、led、marked等维持一般过去时。 They put stones in the boat. 修改:They put stones in the boat until the water reached the same mark. 理由:It tells the reader when to stop adding stones and makes the method clear. 原句:Cao Cao knew that the boy was thinking of a perfect plan. 可改:Cao Cao watched the boy and waited for his answer.
