Self-knowledge is regarded as the most important ability for teenagers' growth. Many teenagers fail to make progress just because they ___29___ know themselves properly. They either over-praise their strengths or overly worry about their weaknesses.
I used to be a typical example. I was born creative and quick-minded. I could come up with new ideas in a very short time and often won praise from my teachers. Gradually, I became too proud. I refused to listen to others' advice and even ___30___ my classmates' slow thinking. I believed I was totally perfect and needed no improvement at all.
However, a serious competition completely changed my attitude. I failed unexpectedly. My work was full of small mistakes caused by my carelessness. My lack of patience made me unable to polish my work ___31___. At that moment, I finally realized my biggest problem: I only saw my shining points but not my serious ___32___.
From then on, I started a new journey of self-improvement. I tried to be ___33___ instead of showing off. When others offered suggestions, I listened carefully and corrected my mistakes bravely. I made detailed daily plans to train my patience and carefulness. I also learned to ___34___ with others, realizing that personal creativity cannot replace teamwork.
Slowly, I changed greatly. I no longer feel satisfied with simple success. Instead, I keep looking for my shortcomings and try my best to fix them. I understand clearly that no one is born ___35___. Every strength may turn into a shortcoming if we take it for granted.
Knowing yourself is never a one-time task. It is a long-term process which runs ___36___ our whole life. It does not mean looking down on yourself, ___37___ means accepting your imperfections and constantly breaking through yourself.

Scrooge was a cold, greedy, mean, old man! The cold within him froze his old face. It made his eyes red and his thin lips blue. And it spoke out in his unkind voice. A frost (霜) covered his head, his eyebrows, and his pointed chin. His office was quite cold even at Christmas.
Nobody ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, “My dear Scrooge. How are you?” No beggars asked him for a penny. No children asked him, “What time is it?” No man or woman ever asked Scrooge for directions. And even dogs ran away from him.
Once upon a time, on Christmas Eve, old Scrooge sat in his office. It was a cold and foggy day. He could hear the people outside, stamping their feet on the pavement to warm themselves. It was only three o’clock, but it was already quite dark. The candles were flickering (闪烁) in the windows of the neighbouring offices. The fog poured in through every keyhole. It was so thick that you could hardly see the houses on the other side of the street.
The door of Scrooge’s office was open so that he could keep his eye on his clerk (职员), Bob Cratchit. Bob sat in a cold, dark and small room. He was writing letters. Scrooge had a very small fire, but Bob’s fire was even smaller. Bob couldn’t add any more coal because Scrooge kept the coal box in his room. So Bob put on his winter woolen scarf and tried to warm himself by the candle.
“Merry Christmas, Uncle, and God bless you!” cried a happy voice. It was Scrooge’s nephew (侄子) Fred.
“Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug (胡说)!”
“You don’t mean that, I’m sure,” said Fred.
“I do,” said Scrooge. “What reason have you got to be happy? You’re poor to be happy.”
“Oh,” said his nephew, laughing. “What reason have you got to be sad? You’re rich enough. Don’t be angry, Uncle!”
“What else can I be?” replied Scrooge. “I live in a world of fools. What’s Christmas time to you? It’s a time for paying bills without money. It’s a time for finding yourself a year older, but no richer,” said Scrooge.
43. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The weather. B. The window. C. The fog. D. The candle.
44. How did Bob Cratchit probably feel while working in his office?
A. Warm and satisfied. B. Cold and uncomfortable.
C. Excited and cheerful. D. Angry and hopeless.
45. What can we learn from the conversation between Scrooge and his nephew?
A. Scrooge cared a lot about his nephew.
B. Scrooge cared for nothing but money.
C. Scrooge’s nephew felt unhappy on Christmas Eve.
D. Scrooge's nephew agreed with him about Christmas.
46. What is the best title for this passage?
A. A Cold-Hearted Old Man B. A Poor but Kind Family
C. A Happy Christmas Party D. A Hard-Working Office Clerk
C
Once a single advertisement is stuck on a clean door, people will keep sticking more until the whole door is ruined, while a door without any advertisements usually stays clean for a long time. This interesting but worrying phenomenon (现象) in our daily life is a perfect example of what we call the “Broken Window Theory”. According to this theory, a small sign of disorder, if it is not dealt with in time, will soon lead to much more serious problems. In fact, it is happening around us all the time, though most people never notice it. ①
The theory comes from an experiment done by a famous American psychologist (心理学家) named Philip Zimbardo in 1969. He left two identical cars in different neighborhoods, one of them with a broken window. To his surprise, the car with the broken window was quickly destroyed and stolen by people passing by, while the other car stayed untouched for over a week. This shows that signs of disorder or neglect (忽视) can easily encourage further bad behavior. Few people at that time could imagine how far its influence would reach. ②
This theory explains many problems in our life. For instance, if a piece of litter is left on the sidewalk and nobody cleans it up, passersby will soon think it is acceptable to throw more rubbish there. Similarly, if a student begins to call others names or use smartphones during class without being stopped, more students will follow, which eventually destroys the learning environment. Another example is bullying. If mockery (嘲弄) is not corrected immediately at the very beginning, it may grow into serious school bullying step by step. Such small problems, if left alone, will quietly change the way people behave. ③
Thomas Lickona, a famous American education expert, once noted that schools which fail to fix early bad behaviors are actually opening the door to bigger problems. Therefore, teachers must set clear rules from the very beginning and stop any small misbehavior before it turns into big trouble. Meanwhile, students should develop self-discipline and have the courage to say “no” to bad habits. Only in this way can a small problem be solved before it becomes too hard to deal with. ④
47. In Zimbardo’s experiment, what happened to the two cars?
A. Both of them stayed untouched for more than a week.
B. The one without a broken window was finally stolen by passers-by.
C. The one with a broken window didn't remain in good condition for long.
D. The two of them were left in the same neighborhood for a week.
48. What does the underlined word “identical” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Clean. B. Expensive. C. Special. D. Similar.
49. What can we infer about small problems from the passage?
A. They can be stopped if they are dealt with early.
B. They will disappear if nobody pays attention to them.
C. They are less serious than they appear to be.
D. They are mainly caused by the use of smartphones.
50. Where can the sentence “This surprising experiment soon became a famous example of how a small sign of disorder can spread.” be best put?
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④

七、阅读表达(本大题共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题,每题不超过 10个词。
Nowadays, more and more teenagers are suffering from different kinds of teenage problems. Some get much stress from schoolwork. Some have disagreements with their parents. Some meet peer pressure from classmates.
Some teenagers feel stressed because of endless homework and afterschool training classes. Their parents expect them to get high marks. In order not to let parents down, they stay up late almost every night. However, too much stress makes them tired and it's hard for them to focus in class. Their grades may even drop as a result.
Generation gap is another serious problem. Teenagers hope for more freedom to manage their own life. They want to choose their hobbies and make some small decisions by themselves. But many parents still stick to their own ideas. They worry that teenagers are too young to make right choices. So arguments often break out at home. Many teens regret arguing with their parents, but they don’t know how to improve the situation.
Peer pressure also influences teenagers a lot. Some teenagers change their tastes or behaviours just to get along with their classmates. They risk wasting time and money just to follow others. They are afraid of being left out of the group.
It is normal for teenagers to meet these troubles. But we should learn proper ways to deal with them. Communicating patiently, taking active action and asking for advice are all helpful.
71.Why do some teenagers stay up late almost every night?
