People who’ve seen Earth from space say that it can change your whole idea about life. And according to a new study, it may also change your brain.
The study found that spending time in space can cause the brain to shift (移动) “upwards and backwards within the skull (颅骨)”.
Researchers took brain scans of 26 astronauts before and after their time in space. These astronauts had spent anywhere from two weeks to six months in space, with a few of them spending as long as a year on the International Space Station.
The researchers divided the brain into 130 parts and then studied each one. The results showed changes in the position of the brain within the skull. The longer the astronauts spent in space, the clearer the changes were, especially in structures at the top of the brain.
The researchers also took scans of 24 non-astronauts who spent up to 60 days lying in bed. To create conditions similar to what astronauts’ bodies experience in space, the participants were placed in a tilted (倾斜的) position so their heads were six degrees below their feet.
The results showed similar changes in the non-astronauts’ brains, but the upward shift was still greater in the astronauts’ brains. The researchers said that most of the participants’ brains went back to normal within six months. But some didn’t.
The study did not find any symptoms (症状) such as headaches related to these brain movements. Still, the scientists said that research like this is important, especially for future long-term space tasks.
“We need to understand these changes and their effects to keep astronauts healthy, and it also provides the scientific support for ordinary people’s space travel someday.” Seidler, a co-author of the study, said.
12. What do the first two paragraphs mainly tell us?
A. The skull keeps the brain safe.
B. Space flight pushes the brain up and back.
C. Looking at Earth from space hurts the brain.
13. What do the 130 brain parts tell the researchers?
A. Only top brain structures are affected.
B. Short trips cause no brain changes at all.
C. Longer tasks produce stronger brain shifts.
14. Why did the scientists study non-astronauts in a tilted bed position?
A. To find out what exactly caused the brain to shift.
B. To look for the differences between bed rest and space travel.
C. To find a better way to make astronauts sleep better in space.
15. What will the scientists probably do next?
A. Study how these changes affect brains.
B. Send more astronauts on short space trips.
C. Teach astronauts to focus on the brain shifts.
B 13. C 14. A 15. A
文章第一段最后一句“And according to a new study, it may also change your brain.”和第二段“The study found that spending time in space can cause the brain to shift ‘upwards and backwards within the skull’.”
文章第四段最后一句“The longer the astronauts spent in space, the clearer the changes were, especially in structures at the top of the brain.”
文章第五段第二句“To create conditions similar to what astronauts’ bodies experience in space, the participants were placed in a tilted position so their heads were six degrees below their feet.”
文章最后一段“‘We need to understand these changes and their effects to keep astronauts healthy...’”

根据上文“When you travel during the National Day holiday”,讲国庆假期出行这件事,结合下文“but some don’t like it”,说明一部分人不喜欢住酒店,由此可知假期大部分人的常规选择是住酒店。
根据上文“The minshuku is different from the hotel in some ways”,提到民宿和酒店存在几方面不同,本句举出做饭这一点来证实差异。
根据上文“but it was too old and boring to live in”,作者觉得住酒店老旧又无趣,由此产生改换住宿的想法。
根据上文“The minshuku that I lived in was a very beautiful building”,本句继续介绍这栋民宿房屋本身,要表达建筑附有的环境。 for“为了”表目的,on“在……
根据上文“I was on holiday in Chengdu”,整篇文章以第一人称“我”来叙述,讲作者自身的感受。
根据上文“I thought he was a businessman at first because he rented his house to many visitors to make money”,我一开始以为他租房只为挣钱,后文是和预想不一样的真实想法,存在转折关系。
根据下文“I believe there was no trip in my life … than the trip to Chengdu”,能看出这次旅行给作者留下很深的记忆。
根据上文“I really enjoyed myself there”,说明作者本次旅行体验非常好;句中than提示要用比较级。

固定搭配forget to do sth.,表示“忘记要去做某事”,代表事情还没有做;forget doing sth.
Many parents want to let their kids enjoy themselves when they’re still young. Others may think children can’t finish the housework as well as possible. I think they seem to be right, but actually wrong. There are several reasons for doing chores for kids.
Chores help improve life skills. They are young now, but when they grow up, they need to do washing, cooking and cleaning. They can’t learn them at school. Learning these skills at home is important. Chores help kids learn to be independent (独立的). Cleaning their rooms or washing their clothes can make them less dependent on others. They will think they can take care of themselves.
Chores help teach them to respect others. They often can’t realize what their parents do around the house until they move away from home. They may realize the mess of their rooms by doing housework themselves, so they can respect their parents’ work at home.
Chores help improve planning skills. It feels like there are a lot of things to do in a day. How to spend time on them? Chores can help elder kids build good habits early. They learn to plan their time in a right way. It is also an important skill for them in the future.
