Delivery(递送) has a long history in China. In ancient times, delivering things quickly was never easy. People spent lots of time on the road and often faced terrible weather.
In the early Shang Dynasty, there were no post offices or bicycles. Messengers(信使) travelled on foot for days to deliver the king’s messages. They even had to carry basic food and water for their long journeys.
As time went by, delivery improved greatly during the Tang Dynasty. People rode horses to send things faster, saving much time. Some also used kites or pigeons(鸽子) to deliver letters. Pigeons could fly long distances and send messages correctly. These new methods made communication much easier.
After that, during the Qing Dynasty, a special service called Biaoju appeared. Skilled guards helped send letters and kept people and their valuable things safe on dangerous roads. They were brave and tried their best to complete each task.
Nowadays, delivery services are everywhere. Online shopping keeps countless delivery workers busy. They ride e-bikes to bring goods to our doors on time. By 2026, delivery has become even faster and smarter. Many robots and drones(无人机) help deliver packages in cities and villages.
What’s more, people now use more green packaging to protect the environment. China’s delivery industry is developing quickly, sending ten billion packages each month. From ancient messengers to modern robots and drones, we can clearly see huge changes in technology and daily life.

The 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Award came out at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy. Cai Gao, a famous picture book illustrator(插画家) from Changsha, Hunan, successfully won the award, becoming the first Chinese illustrator to receive this honour.
For over twenty years, Cai has grown flowers like roses and lilies in the garden on the rooftop of her home in Hunan. Almost every morning, she goes up to the rooftop, walks through the sea of colours and greets the rising sun in the east. With childlike curiosity and excitement, she takes time to watch everything in her garden. She loves the garden so much that when her daughter invited her to go on trips, she refused — “Who’s going to take care of my ‘friends’ if I’m far away for so long?”
But Cai’s garden lies not just on the rooftop. The trees in her neighbourhood tell their stories in a different way. She says, “They always have something to say, as long as you get close enough to listen.” She still remembers watching raindrops from the roof as a young girl. Over time, it formed a puddle(水坑) on the ground. As the rain continued, more raindrops merrily jumped into it, creating a cheerful musical work of nature. Outside her home, in the street, a girl called out softly while selling flowers. In young Cai’s heart, wherever there was life, there was joy — and a little “garden”.
Year after year, time passes, but Cai remains a child inside. She turns what she sees in the “garden” into short stories and picture books for children, bringing the world more than 40 warm and lovely works. In this way, her garden comes alive in people’s hearts all over the world.
( )28. Why did Cai refuse to go on trips with her daughter?
A. To look after her garden. B. To work on her books. C. To avoid a tiring journey.
( )29. What does the underlined word “merrily” most likely mean?
A. Silently. B. Happily. C. Carefully.
( )30. How does Cai make her “garden” alive?
A. By winning the award in Italy. B. By finding good caretakers.
C. By creating works and spreading joy.
( )31. What can we learn about Cai from the text?
A. She finds inspiration in her garden. B. She sold flowers when she was a little girl.
C. She has been growing flowers for 40 years.

Some Changes in My Hometown
With the support of our government, great changes have taken place in my hometown.
In the past, the roads were narrow and rough, and there weren’t many places for people to have fun. However, the government has brought about wonderful changes. Now there are wide highways that connect our town to the capital. What’s more, the government has helped build new parks and squares where people can relax and enjoy themselves.
I believe these changes have greatly benefited all of us. We are all happy with these changes. As a junior high student, I will lead a green lifestyle by planting trees. I will also encourage my friends and neighbours to protect the environment together.
I’m sure that if we all work together, we can create an even better hometown!
all and healthy now.
