How to Read Codes on Canned Foods
While there is no standard marking system for canned foods, many companies use similar codes to track their products. Learning to understand the most common date codes helps you make sure your canned foods stay fresh and safe to eat. Some canned foods have a clear “use by” date printed on the can or its label. For those without such a date, you can usually find a coded date on the top or bottom of the can and decode it as follows.
Step 1 — Check the first character
Check the first number or letter in the code. Numbers 1 to 9 often stand for the months from January to September in order. On many cans, the letter O usually means October, N stands for November, and D represents December.
Step 2 — Try the alphabetical system
Simply match letters A to L with the months January through December in alphabetical order. Some companies use this way of coding to mark months. You need to be careful when decoding these marks if you want to confirm the exact month. D may mean April or December, depending on the coding system the producer uses.
Step 3 — Read the day and year
Work out the numbers to find the specific date and year. Many companies use two digits after the first character in the code for the day, and one digit for the year. The digit for the year is normally the last digit of that year. For example, the year mark for 2011 would be 1.
Step 4 — Try a Julian date
Find the corresponding (相应的) Julian date from the code if the numbers cannot be read as month, day and year. A Julian date shows which day it is in a whole year. For example, Jan. 1 would be 1 and Dec. 31 would be 365 if a Julian date is used.
21. What do we know about the coding systems in Step 1 and Step 2?
A. They use numbers for days. B. Months are coded randomly.
C. Letters are used to mark months. D. They follow the same coding rules.
22. What number represents Feb. 10 if a Julian date is used?
A. 10. B. 41. C. 102. D. 210.
23. Which section of a magazine is this text probably taken from?
A. Everyday Health. B. Green Life.
C. Money Smart. D. Home Improvement.
C 22. B 23. A

Step 1 — Check the first character中的“Numbers 1 to 9 often stand for the months from January to September in order. On many cans, the letter O usually means October, N stands for November, and D represents December.(数字 1 到 9 通常依次代表一月至九月。在很多罐头上面,字母 O 通常代表十月,N 代表十一月,D 代表十二月。)”以及Step 2 — Try the alphabetical system中的“Simply match letters A to L with the months January through December in alphabetical order. Some companies use this way of coding to mark months.(简单地将字母 A 到 L 按照字母顺序对应一月到十二月。一些公司使用这种编码方式标记月份。)”可知,步骤一和步骤二均会使用字母来标记月份。
【22题详解】
细节理解题。根据Step 4中的“Find the corresponding Julian date from the code if the numbers cannot be read as month, day and year. A Julian date shows which day it is in a whole year. For example, Jan. 1 would be 1 and Dec. 31 would be 365 if a Julian date is used.(如果数字不能读取为月、日和年,请从代码中查找相应的儒略日期。

At a workshop in Yongjia, East China’s Zhejiang Province, a piece of boxwood rests quietly on the workbench. Before making the first cut, 53-year-old woodcarver Ye Xiaopeng often spends time working out the overall composition, and the expressions of his figures he wants to convey. In his view, woodcarving is not simply about carving what you see; a craftsman has to think through what he wants to express before putting knife to wood.
To outsiders, we may take it for granted that someone born into a family of woodcarvers would follow the same path. But Ye believes that what has truly shaped his artistic vision is not only the craft passed down through generations, but also the influence of reading.
Ye’s earliest reading memories had little to do with art theory. What left the deepest impression on him, however, was a copy of the book, Back to Beginnings, which was the first book that made him realize how reading could shape the way a person thinks. Looking back, he believes the book’s influence lay not in any particular knowledge it provided, but in the way it encouraged him to observe the world and reflect on it. “The influence wasn’t obvious,” he said. “It was more like the grain (纹理) hidden inside a piece of wood, forming for decades, shaping both my work and my life.” After entering the arts-and-crafts world, reading gradually evolved from a personal interest to a professional necessity. From learning carving techniques and copying traditional designs to studying sculptural references and materials on the history of sculpture, books remained a constant companion throughout his professional development.
In Ye’s view, a sculptor can observe a figure’s expression or posture from everyday life, but the cultural meanings and spiritual qualities behind the artwork must be built through reading. “Life provides vivid images; reading provides cultural depth,” he said. Every turned page strengthens a thread that links knowledge and experience, the present and the past, and ultimately, creativity and tradition.
24. What does Ye usually do before carving?
A. Refer to prior ideas. B. Go through relevant books.
C. Map out the full picture. D. Consult with experienced seniors.
25. How did Back to Beginnings influence Ye?
A. By offering carving skills. B. By inspiring deep reflection.
C. By strengthening family bonds. D. By providing useful solutions.
26. What can best describe Ye?
A. Thoughtful and committed. B. Old-fashioned and persistent.
C. Reserved and knowledgeable. D. Ambitious and straightforward.
27. What can we infer from Ye’s words in the last paragraph?
A. Tradition holds back creativity B. Life and reading fuel true art.
C. Life experience outweighs reading. D. Enough reading guarantees success.
C 25. B 26. A 27. B

C
Cities are 1-3℃ hotter than surrounding rural areas, a phenomenon called the urban heat island effect. This heat threatens human safety, causing heat exhaustion and even death during extremely hot spells. Urban trees act as natural air conditioners through ground shading and the release of water from leaves, yet their cooling power is distributed unevenly across the globe.
Researchers analyzed temperature and tree cover data of nearly 9,000 global cities housing 3.6 billion residents, comparing real urban environments with an imagined situation without any trees. Unlike previous satellite studies measuring overheated building and road surfaces, this research centered on air temperature that directly reflects people’s real experience of heat. The outcome exceeded expectations: trees nearly halve urban heat island warming, cooling most cities by 0.5-1.5℃ and effectively relieving heat pressure for over 200 million people. Cooling effects differ greatly — dry hot cities show obvious temperature differences between leafy and bare lands, while mild temperate (温带的) cities enjoy gentler, more consistent cooling.
However, a city’s trees are not spread evenly. They’re often concentrated in wealthier neighbourhoods and suburban areas. Cities in cooler or more humid (湿润的) climates tend to have more. There’s a strong link with wealth. In the United States, lower-income areas average 15% fewer trees than wealthier areas — and are 1.5℃ hotter. This means vulnerable populations who need free cooling from trees the most are often the least likely to receive it.
Though low-cost and beneficial to air quality and mental health, trees alone cannot fix urban overheating. Current urban trees only reduce 10% of predicted heat rise under moderate (适度的) climate conditions, and ambitious tree planting can merely raise this proportion to 20%. Therefore, cities must combine targeted tree planting in heat-baked neighborhoods with reflective building materials, green roofs and well-designed airflow plans. All local cooling strategies still depend on deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions to slow global climate change and secure comfortable living spaces for future urban residents.
28. How is the new research different from earlier studies?
A. It covers more global cities. B. It focuses on building surfaces.
C. It tracks actual air temperature. D. It models a treeless environment.
29. What can we learn about tree cooling effects from paragraph 2?
A. They change with climate types. B. They match the predicted heat rise.
C. They average a 1.5℃ drop globally. D. They work best in low-income cities.
30. What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Permanent. B. Uneducated. C. Disadvantaged. D. Urbanized.
31. What does the writer suggest to deal with urban overheating effectively?
A. Stopping greenhouse gas release. B. Focusing on low-cost roof projects.
C. Adopting multiple measures together. D. Expanding living spaces for the youth.
C 29. A 30. C 31. C

根据第二段“Unlike previous satellite studies measuring overheated building and road surfaces, this research centered on air temperature that directly reflects people’s real experience of heat.(与此前针对过热建筑和路面的卫星研究不同,这项研究聚焦于直接反映人们真实受热体验的气温)”可知,这项新研究和早期研究的区别在于它追踪的是实际的空气温度,而非建筑和路面表面温度。
根据第二段“Cooling effects differ greatly — dry hot cities show obvious temperature differences between leafy and bare lands, while mild temperate (温带的) cities enjoy gentler, more consistent cooling.(降温效果差异巨大:干热城市的绿化区域与裸地之间温差明显,而温和的温带城市则能获得更温和、更稳定的降温效果)”可推知,树木的降温效果会随着气候类型的不同发生变化。
根据第三段“In the United States, lower-income areas average 15% fewer trees than wealthier areas — and are 1.5℃ hotter. This means vulnerable populations who need free cooling from trees the most are often the least likely to receive it.(在美国,低收入区域的树木平均比富裕区域少15%,气温高出1.5℃。这意味着最需要树木提供的免费降温效果的vulnerable群体,往往最无法获得这类资源)”可知,这里vulnerable populations与lower-income对应,描述的是处于不利处境、缺少资源保障的群体,对应“Disadvantaged(弱势的、处境不利的)”的含义。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Therefore, cities must combine targeted tree planting in heat-baked neighborhoods with reflective building materials, green roofs and well-designed airflow plans. All local cooling strategies still depend on deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions to slow global climate change and secure comfortable living spaces for future urban residents.(因此,城市必须将在高温社区针对性植树的举措,与反光建筑材料、绿色屋顶以及精心设计的通风方案相结合。所有本地降温策略仍然依赖于温室气体的深度减排,以减缓全球气候变化,并为未来的城市居民提供舒适的生活空间)”可知,作者认为城市必须把针对性种树和反光建材、绿色屋顶、通风规划等手段结合,同时还要减少温室气体排放,由此可推测,作者建议同时采用多种措施协同推进。
D
Traditionally, deep strategic analysis required extensive financial support and massive data teams, giving wealthy footballing nations a distinct advantage. Smaller countries with limited budgets could rarely afford dedicated data scientists or custom analytics software, creating an unfair gap in competitive preparation.
This imbalance will be largely erased at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thanks to a full set of artificial intelligence tools co-developed by FIFA and its official tech partner Lenovo. The core of this AI revolution is Football AI Pro, a generative AI platform open free of charge to all 48 competing teams across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Powered by Lenovo’s advanced AI technology and built on FIFA’s tailored Football Language model, the platform processes hundreds of millions of data points from every match. It turns complicated athletic statistics into easy-to-digest outputs: written strategic summaries, highlight video clips, interactive charts and dynamic 3D field visualizations. Supporting over 15 human languages, the AI assistant lets coaches type natural-language questions before kickoff to study opposing teams’ patterns, and after games to fix their own team’s weak spots. To protect independent human coaching judgment, FIFA has set a strict rule: Football AI Pro cannot be used during live match play.
FIFA’s innovation team stresses that artificial intelligence acts only as an assistant, never a replacement for human skill, judgment or creativity. The software can process endless match data, but it cannot copy a coach’s intuition, a referee’s sense of fair play, or a player’s spontaneous in-game brilliance.
Looking ahead, the 2026 World Cup serves as a global blueprint for how AI can make top sports more equal. For decades, cutting-edge sports technology was a luxury reserved for well-funded top leagues and wealthy national teams. This tournament proves that intelligent data tools can be shared universally, letting talent — not financial power — decide which teams advance in the world’s biggest football competition.
32. Why is the AI platform developed?
A. To bridge the divide. B. To maximize profits.
C. To encourage creativity. D. To gain global popularity.
33. What can be learned about Football AI Pro from paragraph 3?
A. It dominates live matches. B. It sets limits on language.
C. It simplifies complex data. D. It determines human judgement.
34. What does the last paragraph focus on?
A. Limitations of AI platforms.
B. Application of intelligent data tools.
C. Prospect of top football teams.
D. Significance of AI-based sports tech.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Football AI Pro: A Game Controller
B. FIFA World Cup: A Highly Anticipated Event
C. Football AI Pro: A Capable Assistant
D. Football Language Model: A Charged Service
A 33. C 34. D 35. C

根据第一段“Smaller countries with limited budgets could rarely afford dedicated data scientists or custom analytics software, creating an unfair gap in competitive preparation. (预算有限的小国很少能负担得起专门的数据科学家或定制分析软件,这在赛前准备上造成了不公平的差距。)”以及第二段“This imbalance will be largely erased at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thanks to a full set of artificial intelligence tools co-developed by FIFA and its official tech partner Lenovo. (这种不平衡将在2026年国际足联世界杯上被大幅消除,这要归功于国际足联与其官方技术合作伙伴联想共同开发的一套完整的人工智能工具。)”可知,开发该AI平台是为了消除强弱球队之间的数据技术差距,即弥合鸿沟。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“It turns complicated athletic statistics into easy-to-digest outputs: written strategic summaries, highlight video clips, interactive charts and dynamic 3D field visualizations. (它将复杂的运动统计数据转化为易于理解的产出:书面战略摘要、精彩视频片段、交互式图表和动态3D球场可视化。)”可知,该平台简化了复杂的数据。
【34题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Looking ahead, the 2026 World Cup serves as a global blueprint for how AI can make top sports more equal. (展望未来,2026年世界杯作为一个全球蓝图,展示了AI如何使顶级体育赛事更加平等。)”以及“This tournament proves that intelligent data tools can be shared universally, letting talent — not financial power — decide which teams advance in the world’s biggest football competition. (这项赛事证明,智能数据工具可以被普遍共享,让才华——而非财力——来决定哪些球队能在全球最大的足球比赛中晋级。)”可知,最后一段重点阐述了基于AI的体育科技在促进公平竞争方面的深远意义。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是第四段“FIFA’s innovation team stresses that artificial intelligence acts only as an assistant, never a replacement for human skill, judgment or creativity. (国际足联创新团队强调,人工智能仅充当助手,绝不会取代人类的技术、判断力或创造力。)”以及全文对Football AI Pro平台功能及其辅助作用的介绍可知,文章主要介绍了这款AI平台作为“得力助手”的角色,所以“足球AI Pro:一个有能力的助手”适合作为文章标题。

【答案】
My Views on Having Breakfast in Classrooms
Recently, some students eat breakfast in classrooms during breaks. Though it is understandable that they are in a hurry, I think it is inappropriate. Eating in class not only causes hygiene problems but also distracts others. Besides, if we eat hastily, it may harm our digestion.
To solve this, I suggest that we should get up earlier to have breakfast properly in the dining hall. The school can also offer quick “grab-and-go” options so that students can save time.
Let’s respect our learning environment and build healthier habits. A nutritious breakfast is the best start to a day.

I was an arrogant (傲慢的) high school boy full of blind self-confidence, firmly believing that I was more capable than all my classmates at managing group tasks. When our teacher formally announced that our school would hold a lively campus charity fair to raise money for poor children in remote villages, I volunteered without hesitation to take charge of the second-hand book stall. I also actively persuaded nearly ten warm-hearted classmates to donate their unused books to support my booth.
My thoughtful classmate Lina had kindly reminded me in advance to classify different kinds of books, mark clear and reasonable prices, and design simple promotional posters to attract visitors. However, I rudely turned down her sincere advice and even laughed openly at her for being overly cautious. I gathered large piles of various books, including interesting storybooks, popular magazines and practical exam reference books. Without any careful arrangement, I stuffed these mixed books randomly into several rough cardboard boxes.
On the official day of the charity fair, while other groups devoted plenty of time and energy to decorating their stalls with colorful ribbons and beautiful handwritten signs, I did almost no preparation at all. I just laid all my books in a total mess on the table and wandered around the campus casually, firmly convinced that high-quality books alone would naturally draw a large number of buyers.
As noon slowly rolled around, all the neighboring stalls were packed with busy and energetic students. In sharp contrast, almost no one stopped or spared a glance at my book booth. Worse still, several reference books accidentally slipped off the table and got badly stained by the fruit juice spilled by passing students.
Standing alone beside my cold booth, I watched Lina’s handmade toy stall become extremely popular and listened to their cheerful and merry laughter. Strong regret and great embarrassment wrapped me tightly. I fully realized that my stupid arrogance and laziness had wasted my classmates’ kind donations. Just as I sank into deep self-blame and despair, Lina finished her temporary work and walked straight towards me.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;

One Possible Version
Seeing my depression, Lina didn’t mention my previous rudeness but proposed a plan. Eager to make amends, I nodded gratefully and we set it in motion. Our forces joined, we split the messy pile into three categories: fairy tales, novels, and review materials. Lina set about creating eye-catching price tags with colorful pens, whereas I humbly borrowed long, elegant ribbons to decorate our table. Knowing students hunted for cheap books, we wiped the juice-stained copies clean and shouted warm promotions. Gradually, as a steady stream of curious buyers gathered, my face flushed with profound guilt for mocking her careful suggestions before.
When the charity fair drew to an end, our book stall unexpectedly topped the donation list. To our immense thrill, the collected cash far exceeded our expectations. The heavy donation box in my hands, I turned to Lina with red-rimmed eyes. Not only did I formally apologize for my unbearable arrogance, but I also thanked her for saving the day. She accepted it softly, a forgiving smile washing away my lingering guilt. Ultimately, this unforgettable experience engraved a priceless truth in my mind: true success is rooted in collaboration rather than blind pride. From then on, I swallowed my ego, always ready to embrace others’ valuable advice.

B

It’s no secret that artificial intelligence is changing the way we work. With more and more simpler tasks being automated, humans are left with more high-level cognitive work, such as idea generation, strategic planning, and creative writing. ____36____
The problem is that we still follow a mindset that resembles the era of assembly (组装) lines, which doesn’t foster or facilitate the type of work needed today. Leaders constantly measured productivity in terms of how many hours an employee spent at work or the number of abstract targets they reached. ____37____ This type of output doesn’t fit in the era of AI. Instead, we have to make a psychological switch, structuring each workday for quality instead of quantity.
Start by kicking the old method of continuous work throughout the day. Research shows that continuous work impairs creative idea generation and high quality, complex cognitive work. ____38____ It’s recommended that using work sessions that are about 90 minutes long, attacking the hardest part of the task in the first 20 minutes and moving to the slower, easier work during the remaining time.
____39____ Therefore, managers should consider the principal area that a team or individual is working on rather than imposing the same work schedule across a team or an organization. Data suggests that it’s better to work on tasks that involve creativity, imagination, and problem solving during the first few hours of the day and again right before you go to sleep. ____40____ In between the focused work sessions, make time for a nap or for easy work that doesn’t require much creativity or focus.
A. That’s because people tend to overwork.
B. The time of day will also make a difference.
C. As a result, quantity of work was prioritized.
D. To excel in the new era, we’ll need to transform how we work.
E. With every new technology comes fear and then new opportunity.
F. Because of that, it’s better to work in bursts, giving the mind a rest.
G. The middle of the day is better for something calling for concentration.
