During this year’s Spring Festival, I visited Grandma with Mum as usual.
“Grandma, I’m back!” I pushed open the old wooden 11 of the yard, and the smell of meat with sunshine greeted me. Grandma was putting rice cakes in the sun in the yard. Hearing my voice, she turned her head around 12 , glasses sliding (滑动) to the tip of her nose.
“Oh! My little sweetheart!” Grandma came over. “You’ve grown even 13 again!”
Every Spring Festival, it is nearly the 14 greeting that welcomes me home. Grandma always thought I was keeping growing up, even though I was in Grade 8 and nearly as tall as Dad.
“Come in, hurry! I have 15 good for you.”
She took my hand, led me to the central room, 16 opened the old-fashioned wooden cabinet (储藏柜) in the corner mysteriously — her “treasure house”. The door creaked (咯吱作响), as if 17 a story of past years.
Grandma pulled out an old red plastic bag. Then she 18 it slowly, “The beef jerky (干肉条)! A TV programme said it’s from a north-western city. It must be 19 .”
I took the beef jerky, and found that it had been expired (过期的) for six months. My heart skipped a beat. Looking up, I 20 Grandma’s eager (渴望的) eyes. “Is it good? I’ve been keeping it for almost a year!”
“Yes, it’s delicious, so delicious! Everything Grandma saves is delicious!” I ripped (撕破) open the wrapper, took a bite, only to find the beef jerky was as 21 as a small stone, but I bit down with a crunch (嘎吱声), saying, “It’s super delicious!”
Grandma smiled like a flower and she bent down at once to 22 something in the cabinet, “And there’s something else… something else…”
At this moment, my mum walked in. She asked, “Haven’t these been expired?”
Grandma’s hand stopped for a while and said 23 a low voice, “Expired? I… I thought the wrapper still looked fine…”
The room suddenly became 24 . The tick-tock of the old clock sounded unusually clear.
I took another bite of the beef jerky, “Well, it’s not expired! They say online — 25 has no expiration date!”
Grandma stood silently for a second, and then broke into a big smile. “Yes, yes — love never expires!”

七、阅读理解
A
It is easy to be worried about the future of our planet. Forests are disappearing. Water cycles are breaking down. Pollution is harming cities. But I am still a little bit hopeful about our planet’s future.
Nature is making a comeback in many places. Even in the worst landscapes, nature is developing and regaining its own land. Wolves are moving across Europe and there are more tigers in India. I am not saying we should stop worrying about losing biodiversity, but the good news is that nature isn’t so fragile. And in many parts of the world, we are giving it more room to do its thing. For example, farmers are returning land to nature in some areas.
The population is getting smaller. We used to think a continuing baby boom (生育高峰) was a danger to the planet. But today, couples are having half as many children as half a century ago. In fact, the fear in much of the world is that the population is becoming smaller.
Our modern world depends less on materials. This century, the UK’s consumption of materials has fallen from 16 tonnes a year per head to 11 tonnes. Why? We make much more with less by using modern ways of producing goods. And today’s wealthy people spend less money on materials and more on lifestyle experiences: eating out, taking exercise, attending concerts and so on.
I agree that the worst could still happen. To avoid it, we have no choice but to act. And that means staying positive.
1.How does the writer explain people’s worries about the planet in paragraph 1?
A.By telling stories. B.By describing facts. C.By offering advice. D.By comparing ideas.
2.What does the underlined word “fragile” probably mean in paragraph 2?
A.Active. B.Light. C.Weak. D.Quiet.
3.According to the passage, today’s wealthy people may spend more money ▲ .
A.doing sports B.buying clothes C.producing goods D.holding concerts
4.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How we can protect our future planet. B.How we can control population growth.
C.Why we should reduce the use of materials. D.Why we should stay hopeful about the earth.

①Public affairs (公共事务), including social, economic, political or business activities, etc, usually influence almost everyone in the society. When it comes to public affairs, some people think that young people are becoming less interested in them. However, that’s not the case.
②Nowadays, people no longer have to wait for a copy of the local or international newspaper to be published before they can learn about the latest event. Only a few people keep the habit of getting information from a specific news media at a fixed time. In fact, gone are the days when people had to depend on newspapers or televisions to know about world events. Technology has greatly helped spread information and everyone, especially young people, can get it any time anywhere.
③As technology develops, websites and apps used for social networking are increasing at an amazing speed, so more chances are provided for young people to learn about public affairs. A survey carried out recently has shown that 94% of young people get up-to-date news from social media platforms at least a few times a day. What’s more, over 65% of them even discuss some serious problems and post their thoughts online on topics like green energy and space exploration. More and more young people make their voices heard about public affairs and offer some advice online. This wave of actions shows that they surely care about our society and would like to make efforts to make it better.
④Besides, young people pay more attention to climate change and are taking an active part in environmental protection for our planet. For example, a 25-year-old girl has planted 150,000 trees and trained hundreds of community members in raising bees. This girl is among millions of young people who are taking the responsibility (责任) of our society.
⑤In a word, young people have strong feelings of turning dreams into realities and are willing to devote themselves to the development of our society, which drives them to build the world better.
5.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A.Some advice. B.Our society. C.Green energy. D.Space exploration.
6.How does the writer show young people’s attention to public affairs in Paragraph 4?
A.By providing an example. B.By carrying out a survey.
C.By comparing numbers. D.By having an interview.
7.What is the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
8.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Interests shape the future of young people.
B.Public affairs are worth everyone’s attention.
C.Technology influences the spread of information.
D.Young people are never absent from public affairs.

To talk about food and eating is to talk about a common subject like sleeping or breathing. But most of us don’t think about food until we start feeling hungry. 31
However, what, where, when and how we eat say a lot about who we are. Do you eat rice or noodles? Do you use chopsticks? Do you eat with your mouth open wide? 32 Even when we are not trying to say anything, food and the ways we eat in some ways tell who and what we are.
Most people think what they eat and the ways they eat are normal (正常的), while others are a bit strange if they don’t eat the same food or eat in the same way. 33 As we all know, we often cook tomatoes with eggs and we eat noodles at birthdays. These social habits are neither accidental nor personal. We learn our eating habits very early in life and our childhood foods probably have a special meaning for us forever. That’s because they are connected with the people and the things we love. 34
People often use food and eating to mark the seasons such as eating dumplings at winter solstice (冬至). Also, holidays are chances for special foods. 35 For example, at the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese eat moon cakes as a symbol of getting together.
As you can see, food and eating have something to do with people’s shared experiences. They mark both customs and cultures in some ways.
A.So it does not receive much notice.
B.What you eat can tell how healthy you are.
C.All these eating habits send messages about you.
D.Parents often ask us to cook food when they are busy.
E.In fact, choices in foods are fixed and shaped by customs.
F.Sometimes, people even explain why they eat certain things on these days.
G.Mum’s spring rolls and Dad’s tasty fish bring up feelings of love and comfort.
九、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
The possibility of living on Mars is being explored after a study proved the discovery of saltwater lakes below the surface of Mars.
Billions of years ago, the climate of Mars was warm and wet and had the possibility for hosting microbial (微生物的) life. Scientists are not 100 percent sure what happened to water on it. One popular general idea is solar (太阳的) wind. According to the idea, the solar wind likely blew away CO2 as well as small drops of water from air on Mars over the past billion years, leaving the planet with only 10 percent of its beginning amount of water today.
It is just like when we get our skin wet and there are small drops of water on the surface, the wind will finally dry us off, and the water will be carried away. This is very likely to happen to Mars, causing the surface to become hard and dry.
This discovery was made with the help of the European Space Agency’s Mars Express spaceship, which sent out radio waves to the planet’s surface. Scientists decided what material their radio waves met with. The area with the supposed bodies of water had high reflectivity (反射率), which is why scientists believe that water is stored below the surface.
With temperatures as low as the average on Mars, water is supposed to be frozen. But scientists think that water on Mars is able to keep a water form because of the high level of the salt—so high that the possibility of active life surviving in such a condition is pretty low.
With the salty water and an unsuitable climate, Mars is now not fit to live on. But scientists are still trying to learn more about the life forms that once possibly lived on the planet.
