But for him, that was just another day of training. “I’ve done this jump more than 1,800 times,” he says. “It’s not about being brave. It’s about being ready.” The training takes place on Tianmen Mountain. Zhang jumps from high cliffs, wearing a special suit that turns his body into a flying wing. “The first few seconds are the most important,” he says. “You fall faster than a car on a highway with the speed around 200km/h. But you have to stay really focused.” He explains that even a small movement can change his direction completely. Zhang calls himself a perfectionist. “Safety is in my own hands. I don’t leave it to luck.” Before wingsuit flying, Zhang was a paragliding athlete. In 2009, he set a world record. After that, he turned to this one of most dangerous sports in the sky. “I grew up in Inner Mongolia,” he says. “As a child, I always dreamed of flying freely like an eagle. That dream never left me.” He doesn’t see his flights as performances for others. “I want to see how far I can push myself,” he says. Flying through the mountains and even through the famous cave tests his skill to the limit (极限). After the fast fall, Zhang opens his parachute (降落伞) and lands safely. “This sport is not about showing off,” he says. “It’s about finding freedom in the sky.” When he reaches one goal, he looks for the next. “Maybe I’ll try a new sky sport,” he says. “I don’t fly for records. I fly for myself.” 61. Why does Zhang Shupeng practise so many times? A. To record the speed. B. To break a record. C To get well-prepared. D. To practise his courage. 62. A way to make a living. C. A dangerous sport he regrets. D. A challenge and freedom. 65. Which would be the BEST title for this article? A. How to Jump from a Cliff B. Flying for Myself C. Dangerous Sports in the Sky D. Zhang’s World Record C Victor Dewulf, 25, from Belgium and Peter Hedley, 27, from the UK came up with a smart invention called Recycleye, which has made a big hit in the world of recycling. Their invention has won them a top award for young inventors in Europe because it can sort waste well using AI. It does a much better job than methods in the past. Their invention uses a smart system that can sort waste. Recycleye uses a treadmill (跑步机) and a camera to tell apart different types of waste. A robotic arm can then pick out any valuable material. “Our system can run on the fastest belts (传送带) within a waste plant while others can’t do this,” Hedley told the media. “It helps us get to about a 300 percent performance increase.” Recycleye can even tell apart different types of plastics, like those that are safe to be used for food and those that aren’t. ★ . Now, with Recycleye, recycling has become much more efficient, reducing the production and use of carbon-intensive (碳密集的) materials. The seed for this life-changing invention was planted while Dewulf and Hedley were doing their master’s studies at Imperial College London. They deeply explored the possibility of computers to help in sorting waste, which inspired them to improve the recycling industry. Dewulf’s research paper on waste management caught a lot of attention from the industry, encouraging him to explore further. Their robots work all the time, every day of the year. Before this, sorting waste was mostly done by people, who were slower and sometimes made mistakes. These robots get past those problems, working 24 hours a day. This change not only makes sorting waste easier but also helps our planet become cleaner and greener. 66. Why did Dewulf and Hedley win a top award? A. Because they made a smart invention. B. Because they changed the world of recycling. C. Because they performed well in college study. D. Because they are the youngest inventors in the world. 67. What might the Recycleye look like? A. B. C. D. 68. Which of the following can be put in ________? A. The smart system can run faster than others B. It used to be a difficult part of the sorting process C. So people needn’t sort waste by themselves anymore D. This inspires Dewulf and Hedley to go further in sorting waste 69. What does the underlined phrase “get past” mean? A. work out B. look for C. go through D. get across 70. What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To inspire people to work in recycling industry. B. To encourage the youth to develop creative thinking. 五、词与短语填空(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,用方框中所给的单词或短语填空,使短文在结构、语意和逻辑上正确。(提示:方框中有两个单词或短语是多余的。) give up / give away / courage / success / develop / follow / inspires My grandmother is the person who has inspired me most.
