As long as I can remember, I have always been a sickly kid. The doctor said I had seasonal asthma (哮喘). That means I would easily catch a cold or have headaches when the weather changed.
Because of this, I was never good at sports. During P.E. class, while everyone else happily chose games to play, I just stood to the side, quietly observing (观察) ants carry crumbs across the ground. Sometimes, I felt a little blue.
______. Our school started morning exercises on Tuesdays and added two P. E. classes every Friday. My classmates were all excited, but for me, it didn’t seem to make much difference.
Until one day. Someone called out, “Hey, Zhang, do you want to play badminton with us?” At first, I wasn’t sure they were talking to me. But when I looked up, three classmates were walking toward me.
I froze. No one had ever invited me before. “Me? But…”“Come on, let’s go!” Li Ling said, grabbing my hand before I could finish. They pulled me toward the playground.
The game started right away. The girl opposite me tossed the shuttlecock into the air. “Get ready!” she called out. The white feathered ball flew up high. I lifted my head, eyes following its path—and for the first time, I noticed how vast (广阔的) and blue the sky was.
From that day on, I played with them in every P. E. class. After school, it became our routine to spend an hour outdoors. Sometimes we played sports, sometimes we danced in the square, and other times we just walked and talked together.
I’m still not great at sports. But little by little, I’ve started to enjoy them.

A water footprint is the total amount of water used to make the things we use every day. This includes the water for growing food, producing clothes and generating (产生) electricity. Everything we use “drinks” some water before it reaches us. It’s important to understand our water footprint because water is a very precious resource—one we must use wisely.
There are three main types of water footprints: green, blue, and grey. The green water footprint refers to the rainwater used to grow crops. For example, wheat and rice depend on rainwater to grow. The blue water footprint is the fresh water taken from rivers, lakes or underground sources for production. This includes the water used in factories or to irrigate (灌溉) crops. The grey water footprint is the water needed to clean up pollution. When factories release waste, it often takes a lot of water to clean up the mess.
To see how much water we actually use, let’s look at some examples. Producing just one kilogram of beef takes about 15,000 liters of water. This water is used to grow food for the cows and to keep them healthy. By comparison, producing one kilogram of rice requires about 2,500 liters of water. This shows that different foods and products need different amounts of water.
We can reduce our water footprint by saving water in our daily lives. Simple actions like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, using less water when washing dishes and fixing leaks can all go a long way. Eating less meat can also help because producing meat uses a lot of water. Another smart move is to choose products that use less water to make.
By understanding our water footprint and making thoughtful choices, we can help protect this important resource for the future.
36. By writing this article, the author mainly wanted to ________.
A. show people how to reduce water pollution
B. discuss the importance of saving water in daily life
C. explain the idea of water footprint and how to reduce it
D. compare the amount of water used in different products
37. The “grey water footprint” is the water used for ________.
A. growing crops B. drinking and cooking
C. cleaning up pollution D. washing clothes at home
38. How much water is needed to produce one kilogram of beef?
A. 2,500 liters. B. 15,000 liters. C. 5,000 liters. D. 1,000 liters.
39. The examples of beef and rice are given to show that ________.
A. people should stop eating beef
B. beef is more delicious than rice
C. farming cows is easier than growing rice
D. different products need different amounts of water
40. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a way to reduce our water footprint?
A. Fixing leaks. B. Eating less meat.
C. Taking shorter showers. D. Turning off the tap while brushing teeth.

—It means ______.
A. when people should use powerful words
B. why people should talk less and do more
C. how important people speak louder in daily life
D. what you do is more powerful than what you say
【答案】D
【解析】
【详解】句意:——谚语“Actions speak louder than words.”是什么意思?——它的意思是行动比言语更有说服力。
Actions speak louder than words.意为“行动胜于言语”。when people should use powerful words(人们何时该使用有力的话语),与谚语含义无关;why people should talk less and do more(人们为何要少说话多做事),仅为引申观点,不是谚语直接释义;how important people speak louder in daily life(人们日常生活中大声说话有多重要),完全曲解谚语意思;what you do is more powerful than what you say(你的所作所为比你说的话更有力量),精准匹配谚语内涵,因此选D。

【33题详解】
划线句子“I froze. No one had ever invited me before.”,froze本义是“呆住、僵住”,后半句说明从来没有同学主动邀请过作者。由此能看出,此刻作者十分意外,很难相信会被邀请,对应A选项“作者难以相信这件事”。B选项感到冷、C选项没看见同学、D选项生气,均和句子表达的情绪不符。

C
