What Matters Most in Choosing a Career?
When it comes to choosing a career, I firmly believe that personal interest is the most important factor. For one thing, interest motivates us to devote more time and effort to work, so we can overcome various difficulties instead of giving up easily. For another, doing what we
love brings us a strong sense of achievement, making our daily work much more pleasant.
In short, interest lays a solid foundation for our long-term career progress.

Jade thought for a short time, and then putdown her backpack. Though slightly
reluctant, she rolled up her sleeves and threw herself into festival preparations with her
parents. Awkwardly, she was clumsy at first and the mooncakes made by her turned out
misshapen and looked strange. Under Mom's patient guidance, she gradually mastered the
skills of pressing mixtures into all kinds of moulds. What started as a burden slowly sparked
her enthusiasm. Mindful of every step, she grew increasingly skillful and laughter
occasionally echoed through the kitchen.
When night fell, all the preparations were over. Seated on the balcony, the whole
family admired the brilliant full moon, tasted the homemade mooncakes and shared
some touching stories about Mid-Autumn in China. To Jade's amazement, the mooncakes
carried an unexpected delicious flavor. It dawned on her that those once-annoying and
tiring chores were far from meaningless. Instead of merely having fun with her friends, the
festival built a precious emotional bond linking her to her family and distant cultural roots.

Human's pursuit of beauty begins at an early age. The fact is perfectly true for young ladies. When
Scarlett and her classmates were m fifth grade, they started to worry about getting wrinkles. By the time
she turned 14, Scarlett and her friends were spending hours on TikTok and YouTube watching people
talk about products to make their skin look nice: a wet, shiny, perfect skin. Scarlett made a big skin care
routine with face wash, sprays, hydrating covers and creams.
One night. Scarlett's skin began to burn intensely and got bubbles. Using too much strong stuff for
grown-ups made her skin very bad. Scarlett's experience is common now, experts say, as young girls go
to beauty stores to buy fancy skin care products, a trend seen in popular videos with the
hashtag#SephoraKids.
Things like hydroxy acids(果酸) are very strong. Young or sensitive skin can get red, peel and
burn that can cause infections, spots and too much sensitivity if not used right, skin doctors say.
“The focus on skin care is more than just wanting perfect skin. It's about feeling accepted and
belonging to a community that has the lifestyle and look you want,” says 14-year-old Mia Hall. More
than the harm to the body, parents and child psychologists worry about how this trend can affect girls’
feelings and thoughts for a long time. A lot of information shows that being too focused on looks can
hurt how you feel about yourself and your body and can cause worry, sadness and eating problems.
The amount of detail and information girls get from beauty lessons sends a bad message at a time
when they are growing up and finding out who they are, says Charlotte Markey, a body image expert
and a teacher at Rutgers University.
24. What was Scarlett's concern when she was in fifth grade?
A. Getting wrinkles. B. Her skin not being shiny.
C. Her skin's hydration. D. Being rejected by her friends.
25. What happened to Scarlett's skin after using adult-strength products?
A. Her skin became flawless. B. Her skin turned red and peel.
C. Her skin became very smooth. D. Her skin started to burn and blister.
26. Why are some skin care products harmful for young or sensitive skin?
A. They are too expensive.
B. They are not sold in beauty stores.
C. They are designed for older people.
D. They can cause redness, peeling, and burning.
27 What is the possible result of too much focus on skin care?
A. It improves understanding of proper skin care routines.
B. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
C. It helps to build better self-esteem and confidence.
D. It encourages healthy relationships with peers.

Memory, our ability to encode, store, and retrieve(检索) information, is a fascinating and complex
process. We often think of memory as a mental recording device, but it is far more malleable and
selective. Each time we recall a memory, we are not simply playing back a perfect file; we are
potentially reconstructing and even altering it.
This reconstructive nature of memory has significant implications. Eyewitness testimony(证词),
once considered highly reliable in legal settings, is now viewed with more caution because of the
fallibility(易错性) of human memory. Studies have shown that memories can be influenced by new
information, leading questions, or even our own beliefs and expectations. For instance, if after an event,
someone suggests details that didn't happen, those details can be incorporated into our memory of the
event, creating a false but vivid recollection.
Why would our memory be so unreliable? From an evolutionary(进化的) perspective, memory's
primary function might not be perfect accuracy, but rather to help us make sense of the world and
guide future behavior. Remembering the general gist of an event—— whether it was threatening or safe,
enjoyable or unpleasant—— is often more important for survival than remembering every minute
detail. Our brains prioritize information that is emotionally significant or frequently used, while letting
less important details fade.
Understanding that memory is reconstructive can help us be more critical of our own recollections
and more understanding of others'. It reminds us that our past is not a fixed narrative but a story we
continually refine(完善).
28. According to the passage, how is human memory different from a recording device?
A. It is more accurate and reliable.
B. It is simpler and more straightforward.
C. It is more changeable and selective.
D. It is less useful for guiding behavior.
29. Why is eyewitness testimony now treated with caution?
A. Because witnesses often lie intentionally.
B. Because memories can be influenced and become inaccurate.
C. Because judges and juries(陪审团) no longer trust human memory.
D. Because it is illegal to use memory as evidence.
30. What is suggested as a possible evolutionary reason for memory's unreliability?
A. To make room for more important new memories.
B. To focus on details rather than the general idea.
C. To prioritize survival-related information over precise details.
D. To avoid the mental effort of storing perfect records.
31. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To criticize the legal system's use of eyewitnesses.
B. To explain the biological process of memory formation.
C. To discuss the reconstructive and sometimes unreliable nature of memory.
D. To argue that memory is completely untrustworthy.

For decades, marketers of consumer goods designed eye-catching packaging, using bold colors,
stylish text, cartoons, and illustrations to seize shoppers’ attention. Conventional wisdom held that with
thousands of products competing against one another in big-box stores and supermarkets, companies
needed to do everything in their power to make their products stand out.
But recently, there's been a move toward simplicity, similar to minimalist(极简主义) art in
the1960s, which rejected complexity and favored abstraction by removing all unnecessary elements.
A recent research explored whether shoppers actually prefer this packaging—— and, if so, why.
First, researchers analyzed over 1,000 consumer goods, such as shampoo, and cercal, from the
largest supermarket chain in the U. S. They found that products in simple packaging generally had
higher retail prices than similar products that didn't, indicating that shoppers are willing to pay more for
products in this packaging.
In a follow-up study, university students were asked to look at different packages and reported
how much they were willing to pay, how many ingredients they thought the products might have and
how pure they perceived(理解) the products to be. The results showed that the preference for simple
packaging was due to the fact that simpler designs sent a subtle yet powerful signal: purity. Participants
were more likely to assume that the products contained fewer ingredients, along with fewer
preservatives(防腐剂), added colors or artificial flavors, and were willing to fork over more cash for
them—— regardless of whether they actually contain fewer ingredients.
However, simple packaging design is not always effective. For generic brands(卖场自家品牌),
typically sold at a lower price, the simplicity of the packaging may signal low quality rather than purity.
Shoppers’ desires can also influence their preference. When, people seek healthier options,
they’ ll pay more for products with simple packaging. However, when consumers want to treat themselves to junk food, they’ll be more likely to purchase products with complex packaging, which signals many
ingredients and lower purity - qualities associated with more flavor.
32. Traditionally, what products are more competitive?
A. Ones with fancy designs. B. Ones with green features.
C. Ones with costly wrappings. D. Ones with healthy ingredients.
33. The first study was designed to find out consumers’ .
A. buying power B. shopping motives
C. pricing response D. packaging preferences
34. Why are people more likely to buy simply-packaged products according to the study?
A. Because they seek rich flavors.
B. Because they want to save money.
C. Because they make health a priority.
D. Because they prefer well-known brands.
35. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. How Art Shapes Packaging? B. What You Should Check on Labels?
C. When Designs Took a New Turn? D. Why You Like Minimalist Packaging?

On September 9, Apple entered the foldable phone market with the iPhone Duo, its first folding
phone. For a company whose every move leads the industry, this was no small event. 36
Huawei had in fact moved before Apple. Two days before the Apple event, it unveiled its second
tri-fold flagship, the Mate XT2, putting it on sale before the iPhone Duo could even be pre-ordered.
37 The message to consumers was plain: Huawei had no intention of giving up its ground.
Huawei's confidence rests on hard numbers. In the first half of 2026, it held roughly two-thirds
of China's foldable market. 38 No other company came close.
39 In evaluating the iPhone Duo, Huawei sees more opportunity than threat. Many analysts
agree: Apple's entry has finally made the foldable form impossible to doubt, and the company best
placed to profit from a bigger market is the one that already leads it. Production targets for Huawei's
foldable lines are said to be rising for the second half of the year.
Rather than narrowing its defense, Huawei is widening it. Beyond the tri-fold Mate XT2, it is
reportedly developing another book-style foldable with a 7.6-inch main screen, one that looks much
like the iPhone Duo on paper. 40 All of these devices run on Huawei's own Kirin chips and
Harmony OS—— a sign that the battle for the future of folding phones has only begun.
A. Many buyers, however, say they would rather wait for a second generation.
B. This second model is expected to appear within months, giving Huawei an Apple-style answer
of its own.
C. Huawei first entered the foldable market in 2019 with its original Mate X.
D. That confidence, however, tells only half the story.
E. This early strike was carefully timed to seize the spotlight before Apple could own it.
F. Yet the louder answer to it would come from its strongest challenger in China, Huawei.
G. Such dominance took years of patient work to build.

What Matters Most in Choosing a Career?
第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jade was born in China and moved to America when she was a baby. As a sixteen-year-old
teenager raised entirely in the USA, she had adapted to local lifestyles. But her parents never skipped
the celebrations of traditional Chinese festivals. Still, Jade could never figure out what made these
festivals so significant to them. To her, these festivals meant nothing but endless tiring chores(杂务),
unfamiliar dishes that didn't suit her taste, and less time with her friends.
On the morning of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, Jade's mother got up very early and busied
herself with preparations. Jade grabbed her backpack, eager to go out and meet friends. But
Mom stopped her, hoping she could help. Looking at all kinds of materials and the mooncake moulds(模具) on the kitchen table, Jade rejected it without hesitation. She complained that she had made plans with
her friends long before.
Mom drew Jade down to sit next to her. She didn't blame her. Instead, she pulled an old photo
album out of the kitchen cupboard. Inside were photos of her and Dad shortly after their arrival in
America: the family members happily held mooncakes outside their tiny old apartment.
In a soft voice, Mom explained that the festival represented far more than mooncakes and lights.
Back in her childhood days in Guangzhou, the whole family would gather on the rooftop each
Mid-Autumn night. They enjoyed mooncakes, admiring the full moon. Once, she had ignored those
warm moments. But after being thousands of miles away from home, that very moon turned into an
invisible (隐形的) bond connecting her to her hometown. “We look up at the same moon as our relatives
back in China. This festival holds our family bond unbroken,” she murmured.
Mom closed the photo album and gently put her hand over Jade's. “You are free to leave if you
wish. Go enjoy yourself with friends.” Jade stared hard at her mother, catching a sense of homesick
sorrow in her heart.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Jade thought for a short time, and then put down her backpack.
