【第21~27题(阅读A篇)在原卷照片中缺失,请补充后完善。】
We can learn a lot from nature.Architect Vincent Callebaut looks to our environment as
a guide for designing his forward-thinking structures. His conceptual creation Lilypad is a
prime example.
Lilypad is a floating island that draws inspiration from the gigantic Victoria amazonica,a
species of water lily known for having the largest leaves of any water plant.Their leaves can
grow up to nearly 10 feet in diameter.Similarly,Callebaut's Lilypad is a massive self-
sustaining structure surrounded by water.Lilypad is intended to offer a solution to the rising
sea levels for humans. It would function as a mobile, amphibious(水陆两栖的)city that could
accommodate(up to 10,000 inhabitants. The city would follow the ocean currents and
adapt to natural forces instead of working against them,as we do now.Eco-friendly at its
core,Lilypad is designed to have a central freshwater lagoon that would help with rainwater
collection and purification.Other areas of the structure would be set up as the marina and
mountain"zones"where people would work, shop, and be entertained.Layers of planned
housing would be surrounded by suspended gardens and crossed by a network of organically
arranged streets.
The Lilypad design uses principles of biomimicry(仿生学),a practice that mimics the
strategies used by living organisms to solve human challenges.Callebaut has distinct ways in
which he has applied biomimicry fundamentals to Lilypad. One way is through its bionic
structure.
"The structure takes up the radial(辐射状)and concentric geometry(同心式几何)shape
of a water lily leaf, making it float and distribute loads,he explains,"a design that reduces
the amount of materials to a minimum."
"In short,"Callebaut concludes,"Lilypad transforms climate challenges into
opportunities through a design inspired by nature, where each element works in symbiosis(
with the environment."
28.What is the key feature of Callebaut's Lilypad?
A.It automatically purifies water.
B.It functionally provides a living place.
C.It constantly influences the ocean currents.
D.It exactly meets the government's requirements.
29.What do we know about using the principles of biomimicry?
A.It is a project to solve the natural crisis.
B.It is a guide to restore the damaged situation.
C.It is a method to adopt the expert solutions.
D.It is an application to copy the approaches from nature.
30.What can be inferred about Lilypad from the remarks of Callebaut?
A.Its design is based on the eco-friendly philosophy
B.Its way of distribution proves effective and practical.
C.Its operation shows how to reduce building materials.
D.Its structure stresses the importance of keeping balance.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Nature Does Nothing in Vain
B.A Future Sample of Housing gains wide popularity
C.Sustainable Floating City is Inspired by Water Lily
D.Nature Guides the Design for a Forward-thinking Structure
How alike are parents and kids?I,for example,am competitive like my dad;my sister
got my mother's sympathy. My husband and his mom, meanwhile, share a lively debating
style;it's why their conversations get so...animated.
It's an assumption that goes beyond geography:There are "the apple doesn't fall far from
the tree"equivalents worldwide-mostly tree-related,although I like the Portuguese"a fish's
child knows how to swim".
And it's reinforced culturally.There is a proverb that goes like this,"like father,like
son".It feels true,intuitively()But the thing is,it's not.This isn't news:Psychologists
have known for ages that parents and children don't particularly share the main personality
characteristics. It is getting attention now because of a study that tried to change the way this
question of family similarity is explored.Rather than participants only self-reporting their
personalities, they also chose a third party who knew them well to assess them.
This new way suggested more similarities between parents and children about 40%
rather than the 25%of previous studies. But that is still very low.The study concluded that it
was "impossible to accurately predict a child's personality characteristics from those of their
mother or father"and that most relatives are not"much more similar than strangers".The
same study's findings on the impact of home environment show that "Growing up together
does not make people more similar."
But parents aren't off the hook.Last year,a study of 9,400 11-to 17-year-olds declared:
"Parent personalities have a significant impact on a child's life."The detailed results
concluded:"Kids with neurotic(神经质的)parents scored relatively low on several measures,
including grades, overall health, body mass index...and time spent on leisure activities."
As one psychologist has put it,the most direct way to weigh nature against nurture()
is "to randomly()assign children to parents",but the real challenge is,you can't
double-blind-randomize parenting,if so,we are left tripping up in the dark.
32.How does the author illustrate the universality of the idea that kids are like parents?
A.Through analysis.B.Through sayings.
C.Through stories.
D.Through
comparison.
33.What is special about the new study on family similarity?
A.It does more experiments.
B.It makes use of other people's assessments.
C.It adopts the advice of psychologists.
D.It explains the participants'self-reports.
34.What do we know about the result of the new study?
A.It covers the exact fact.B.It's the same as previous result.
C.It's worthy of
trust.D.It's against traditional understanding.
35.What does the writer suggest in the last two paragraphs?
A.Giving advice on parenting.B.Training kids to behave well.
C.Improving kids'
personalities.D.Encouraging kids to learn from their parents.

Organic farming has attracted much attention as people grow more concerned about food
safety and environmental protection.Unlike conventional farming, which depends heavily on
fertilizers and pesticides, organic farming follows strict guidelines and approaches to keep
soil healthy, protect biodiversity, and avoid harmful chemicals.
36.
Furthermore, they also help keep the environment in good condition in
the long run.
One important rule of organic farming is taking care of soil.Organic farmers use natural
methods like growing different crops in the same area over time to stop pests from building
up and enrich the soil.37.
The materials,made from rotted(腐烂的)plant and
animal waste, add important nutrients()to soil and help good tiny organisms grow.
38.
For example, organic farms are homes to wild animals such as birds
insects and small mammals. Not using man-made pesticides protects pollinators like bees,
which is very important for plants to produce seeds. In addition, organic methods reduce
water pollution. No harmful chemicals flow into rivers, lakes or underground water.
Despite its benefits, organic farming has problems too.A major issue is the lower
production than conventional farming.Without fertilizers to promote growth, crops produce
less,which makes organic food more expensive.Moreover,organic certificaton()costs a
lot and takes time, making it hard for small-scale farmers to accept.39.
However,organic farming's future looks promising.40.
Besides,consumer
awareness and demand for organic products grow fast.Governments also support it by
increasing research money and eco-friendly agriculture policies. As more recognize its
benefits, organic farming will play a bigger role in global food production.
A.These methods make sure food is healthy.
B.Organic farming works with nature to produce food.
C.Organic farming also benefits biodiversity and the environment.
D.These challenges limit its development, even as the demand rises.
E.Many consumers pay more for organic products for health benefits.
F.Another natural thing to improve soil in organic farming is farm wastes.
G.Advances in techniques, like better soil management, increase crop production
