At around 4:30 a. m. , Daniel woke up suddenly, to a blood-curdling scream coming from his parents’ room. It was his mother, Mirian, who was unable to keep her composure due to the fact that her husband, Francisco, Daniel’s father, suddenly went into cardiac arrest (心搏停止) with no prior medical conditions.
As he lay unresponsive, with no pulse (脉搏) and appearing lifeless, Mirian, who was trained in CPR (心肺复苏), knew that she had to act but was frozen in fear. “I kept yelling at the top of my lungs, ‘Daniel, your father, your father, he needs CPR,’,” Mirian said. “I could barely dial 911 with my hands shaking so violently.”
It was young Daniel who kept his composure, softly telling his mother to calm down and “let’s just do this”. Within seconds he started performing CPR on his father.
For three to five minutes, Daniel cupped his hands and repeatedly did quick compressions while blowing into Francisco’s mouth until emergency personnel arrived on the scene with police.
But according to Daniel, he had zero training or remembrance of how he actually came to know how to do this other than from clips on TV that he saw from time to time.
“I can’t really recall any specific TV programs where I learned this and can’t even picture in my head how it went down,” he said. “All I know is that it was something I had to do to save my dad.”
When Francisco finally arrived by ambulance to LYH-Cedar Crest, Patel began examining Francisco’s heart and found an abnormal heart muscle that most likely caused the cardiac arrest. He implanted (植入) a small device to Francisco’s chest so the heart could restart. Should it ever happen again? He explained how important Daniel’s CPR was and his quick actions saved his father’s life. Patel added that up to 300,000 cardiac arrest victims are treated annually with less than 10 percent of victims surviving. However, they can be reduced if we were all to learn CPR and acted like Daniel did.
24. What does the underlined word in the first paragraph mean?
A. Duty. B. Calmness. C. Fear. D. Advantage.
25. How did Mirian respond to her husband’s sudden cardiac arrest?
A. She dialed 911 calmly.
B. She knew nothing about CPR.
C. She rushed to Daniel’s room to wake him up.
D. She shouted loudly to ask her son for help.
26. Which statement is true about Daniel?
A. He picked up CPR from TV.
B. He would save more people like his father with CPR.
C. He received some training about CPR from his mother.
D. He was highly thought of by his doctor Patel for his quick actions.
27. According to Patel, what can be inferred?
A. Less than 30,000 cardiac arrest victims are cured annually.
B. Francisco’s cardiac arrest was caused by an abnormal heart muscle.
C. More people should learn CPR to make a difference in saving lives.
D. Francisco’s cardiac arrest wouldn’t happen again with the small device implanted.

According to a study done by University of Michigan researchers, shopping to relieve stress was up to 40 times more effective at giving people a sense of control and shoppers were three times less sad compared to those who only browsed (浏览) for items.
More than half of the 1,000 consumers participating in the survey said they have impulsively (冲动地) shopped to deal with feelings of stress, anxiety or depression. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they’ve maxed out a credit card in the past year. Millennials (千禧一代), 68 percent, responded by saying they have stress spent (冲动消费) in the past, compared with 53 percent of Gen-Xers and only 26 percent of Baby Boomers.
By gender, 48 percent of men and 31 percent of women who have stress spent said they had purchased alcohol when stressed. 82 percent of women stress spent on clothing compared to 52 percent of men. Women also lead stress spending for jewelry, 42 percent, compared to 22 percent for men, with men stress spending more for electronics, 44 percent versus 30 percent for women.
In fact, shopping to reduce stress can actually help you live a healthier life by making sure that your blood pressure is lowered. Shopping to relieve stress is also known as retail therapy (疗法) as a form of regulating stress. The survey found that 82 percent had only positive feelings about their purchases and that the positive mood boost that followed those purchases was long-lasting.
However, the side effect of retail therapy, for many, can start out as a relatively harmless mood booster but could possibly grow into an impulse that uses up money and cause conflict, thereby adding a significant amount of stress to a person’s life.
28. What can we know about Millennials according to the survey?
A. They tend to max out their credit cards.
B. They bear more stress than Baby Boomers.
C. They are more likely to purchase to reduce anxiety.
D. They have an advantage over Gen-Xers in managing stress.
29. Which of the following has topped the list when people have stress spent?
A. Alcohol. B. Clothing. C. Jewelry. D. Electronics.
30. What can be learned about retail therapy dealing with stress?
A. It is harmless. B. It is highly recommended.
C. It can serve as a temporary solution. D. It promotes personal relationship.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Can Shopping Relieve Stress? B. Where is Your Money Going?
C. Shopping Habits across Generations D. A New Cure for Depression

Park, a 30-year-old Korean housewife, recently took a personality test to figure out who she is. “Just like many other people, I don’t exactly know who I am,” she told The Korea Times. “Sometimes I am curious what makes me feel good or bad. I’ve taken several different types of tests to know myself better and the MBTI is one that I tried recently.” In Korea, the MBTI personality test has become the newest trend, particularly among millennials.
MBTI, which stands for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is a personality test. People answer a questionnaire based on a personality theory. A Hankook survey taken last December found that over half of Koreans have taken the MBTI test. Nine out of every 10 people aged between 19 and 28 responded they took the test. Meanwhile, for those who had never been involved in the test, three quarters showed strong interest, indicating the personality type test has become a phenomenon for younger generations.
The MBTI craze among the younger generation, who are struggling with an uncertain future, reflects their desire for acceptance and comfort in knowing there are like-minded people out there. “The country has limited resources and geography, while its people feature a certain devotion and goal-oriented (目标导向型的) characteristic,” said Lee Myung-jin, a professor of sociology at Korea University. Consequently, they have grown eager on various personality indicators that provide them comfort.
As MBTI has gone viral (病毒) among younger Koreans, businesses and media have begun to promote products using the personality test. But such MBTI-based marketing strategies have annoyed some younger people who don’t rely on the results of the test. However, experts agree that the popularity of the test also brings some positive implications. “I believe we’re in a transition period,” Kim Jae hyoung, a head researcher of the Korea MBTI institute said. “This trend could develop a social acceptance and affection for mental guidance in the future.”
32. What’s the text mainly about?
A. A social phenomenon. B. A disturbing crisis. C. A young generation D. A commercial test.
33. Why is the Korean housewife mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To give an example. B. To establish the context.
C. To make a contrast. D. To introduce the woman.
34. What does the new MBTI trend indicate about younger Koreans?
A. 75% of them have taken the MBTI test while the rest have not.
B. They can secure a more definite future with the help of the test.
C. The trend reflects their inner desire to seek a sense of belonging.
D. The test serves as a convenient way for them to know more people.
35. Which statement will Kim Jae-hyoung probably agree with?
A. The new trend brings about more harm than good.
B. Young Koreans should focus on their businesses.
C. Experts need to put efforts in adapting the test.
D. The test opens a window for mental guidance.

How to Quiet a Complainer (抱怨者)
Have you ever suffered your mother’s complaints about her aches and pains? Lengthy complaints will ruin the quality of your time together. 36 Actually there are some ways to get a complainer to stop without starting an argument.
Change the subject. Some complainers will switch topics if you shift the conversation in a direction that interests them. If your neighbor is complaining about the phone company, tell her about an unexpected call you received from an old friend. If your coworker is complaining about your boss, ask whether he met the new employee. 37
Summarize the complaint. If your complainer keeps repeating himself, he may stop if you show that you’re listening. 38 Using “I” statements rather than “you” statements show that you’re interested rather than trying to shut the person down. Avoid saying the word complaining. Saying you hear their dissatisfaction gets the points across.
Try to be honest. When you have things to do, tell the complainer that you must cut the conversation short. 39 You can simply be honest, even saying you need to move on so the conversation doesn’t bring you down — especially if it’s someone who’s complained to you many times before.
40 When it’s someone very close to you — your partner, sibling, or best friend — who stresses you out with a lot of negativity, it’s important to talk about the problem with an open heart. Otherwise, if you bottle up your feelings and continue listening to repeated complaints, you may grow angry or start avoiding the person.
A. Have a heart-to-heart talk.
B. Challenge the person to act.
C. But you may not be brave enough to stop her.
D. Just get them off the focus that they’re currently on.
E. The problems start when complaining becomes a habit.
F. You don’t need excuses such as a work deadline or a dentist appointment.
G. Ask something like, “Can I tell you what I’ve heard and I understand how you feel?”

One day my dad came back home in his truck and there was a cage in the back. Naturally I was curious, so I went towards the truck when I noticed that there was a small little goat that wasn’t even an adult yet.
I asked my dad and he said that he bought the goat from his friend and he was going to kill it twenty minutes after he brought it home so that we would have a big meal.
My sister was there too and she was strongly for my view. We found out we got really mad at my dad and told him not to kill it. After about 10 minutes of complaining we finally convinced my dad not to kill it because we told him that there was no reason for him to kill the goat himself when he could just buy goat meat at a store.
My parents know some friends that we visit sometimes and their family really likes animals so we decided to give it to them. For about a month, they had the goat as a pet and they also had the same problems as we had because the dad wanted to kill it and eat it but the rest of the family didn’t want it to die. They also were able to persuade him not to do so. They ended up sending the goat to a family member’s farm where it would grow up happily.
Another thing that has happened to influence my belief is that I have a neighbor that really likes hunting. One day he hunted a deer and brought the body home, but he decided to leave it outside his house for everyone to see. He just left it there as if it were some kind of award that he just won. Sadly little kids started to make fun of the body and pretended to ride on it. They laughed at it and felt no problem with there being a dead deer just laying.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I felt sick by what I had just witnessed and left.
It amazes me how we have changed from hunting to survive to hunting for sport.
