应用文写作:
Dear Miss Liu,
How is everything going? It has been over a month since I entered high school. I’m writing to tell you something about my high-school life.
My teachers and classmates are friendly and we get along well. Our school offers various interesting after-class activities for us to take part in. Meanwhile, the academic work has become more demanding. Though the school life is busy, I feel energetic and hopeful.
I’ve noticed some differences in English study. Compared with junior high English, Senior high English has more new words and longer texts, which is more challenging. Besides, we need to develop critical thinking rather than merely memorize knowledge. I’m trying my best to adapt to the new way of English learning.
Thank you for your concern. Wish you all the best.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写:
There was a box with her name on it in the living room. Thinking that it might be her birthday present, she went up and opened the box with delight. In the box lay a photo album filled with photos recording the important moments together with her family and friends as she grew up. Lisa sank in the precious memories. After looking through the photo album, Lisa came to wonder where they were and began to search every room.
No one was home, but there was a letter on the table. Her heart beating wildly, she reached out for that letter which was written by her family and friends, saying how great a family member and a friend she was. With tears welling up in her eyes, she found in surprise that she was already surrounded by her loved ones. “Happy birthday!” they said cheerfully and sent their best wishes to Lisa. All of them had a wonderful evening together, adding another chapter to Lisa’s album.

Text 10
My winter holiday is coming to an end. It almost lasts a month, but I feel that I just have a week off. How time flies. I had a wonderful vacation. Or exactly, I had a wonderful Spring Festival. On the first two days of my vacation, I started doing my homework, because I know if I didn’t work on my study now, I couldn’t have a great Spring Festival later on. So I made up my mind to finish my homework before the Spring Festival really comes. How wonderful the expected festival was! My house was full of laughter and happiness. My families and relatives gave me some lucky money and wished me to make progress on my study. I also hung out with friends in the street. When the atmosphere of Spring Festival was just fading away, the Lantern Festival was coming. After that, I don’t have too much holiday time left. Three days later, I will go back to school for my new term. I am so happy that I feel I just had a one-week holiday.

I’m a travel lover. I think it is very exciting to go to new places, experience different situations and see new things. Here’s what I have come up with about why my travel is so interesting.
To start with, whether we know it or not, every day is filled with anxiety about things that we don’t need to worry about in the first place. Going to new places is a good chance to escape from our everyday worries. For example, after a whole day at work, I’m often physically and mentally tired and start to worry about things. However, the moment I get on the train or bus to my next destination (目的地), I forget all my tiredness and worries.
Next is one of the most important things in travel: movement. I always take along books to read on my train trips, but in the end, only about five pages or so ever get read, because I just look at things out of the window. Just the ability to move is very enjoyable. Movement also means that we are going to new places and seeing new things. But why is that important? Because experiencing new situations, people and ideas can help us to learn about new things and grow. I have never gone on a trip and come back as the same person; I have always changed and grown through travel.
So take every type of trip you can, at every chance you get, and you will not only experience more of the world, but will become a happier person with rich experiences.
24. The passage is mainly about ______.
A. how to have a comfortable life B. how to prepare for a trip
C. why travel is so exciting D. why some people are tired of travelling
25. Why doesn’t the author read much on train trips?
A. Because he is too busy working to read.
B. Because he is so tired that he can’t read.
C. Because he doesn’t like reading on the train.
D. Because his attention was taken away by the beautiful view.
26. People who travel to new places will ______.
①learn new things ②become happier
③get more experiences ④have more chances to read
A. ①③④ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①②③
27. The author develops the passage mainly by ______.
A. giving explanations B. giving examples
C. making comparisons D. following the natural time order
C
American workers have cut the number of hours they spend in their jobs since 2019, but no group has cut down its time on the clock more than young, high-earning men whose jobs typically demand long hours.
The top-earning 10% of men in the U.S. labor market worked 77 fewer work hours in 2022, on average, than those in the same earnings group in 2019, according to a new study of federal data by the economics department at Washington University in St. Louis. Over the same three-year period, the top-earning 10% of women cut back time at work by 29 hours.
High-earning men in the 25-to-39 range who could be described as “workaholics” were pulling back, often by choice, says Yongseok Shin, a professor who co-wrote the paper.
“These are the people who have that bargaining power (议价能力),” Dr. Shin says. Many workers have had the power over their employers in a tight job market. “They have the advantage to decide how many hours they want to work without worrying too much about their life.”
Before the pandemic (疫情), Eli Albrecht, a lawyer in the Washington, D. C. area, says he worked 80 to 90 hours a week. Now, he says he puts in 60 to 70 hours each week, sharing Zoom school (上网课) duties for two of his young children with his wife. He says he enjoys family time.
As high-earning workers in the U.S. cut back, low-wage workers increased their hours, according to Dr. Shin’s research. The bottom-earning 10% of working men worked 41 hours more in 2022, on average, than in 2019. Women in the lowest-earning group lifted their hours worked 52 hours more last year compared with 2019.
28. What do we know about the top-earning 10% of men?
A. They worked 77 hours each week in 2022.
B. They increased their working hours in 2019.
C. They enjoy being workaholics at present.
D. They have cut down more working hours.
29. Why can high-earning people reduce their working time according to Shin?
A. They worry about their life. B. They have to attend school.
C. They like bargaining with people. D. They have the ability to bargain.
30. What do we know about Eli Albrecht?
A. He is crazy about work. B. He lives in New York.
C. He cares about his family. D. He works longer than before.
31. Which group of people have to increase their working hours?
A. The lowest-earning group. B. The top-earning women.
C. All the lawyers and doctors. D. All men with young children.
D
It seems that people are gradually losing their smartness as smartphones become increasingly important assistants in their lives. As we rely too much on technology instead of our brains, many people have lost three basic abilities.
The first skill many people have lost is remembering phone numbers. Because phone numbers are stored in smartphone contacts, there’s now no need to dial a number or look at it again. This is fine until you need to call someone for help, only to find your phone is not around.
And some people may also have lost their sense of direction because some apps can guide people anywhere they want. People get so dependent on them that when they can’t use their smartphones, they get lost and anxious.
But the worst lost skills may be social ones, meaning that some people are becoming socially inept (无能的). People often bury themselves in their smartphones. As we’re too absent-minded by what’s happening in the virtual (虚拟的) some of us have lost conversational skills and sometimes can’t even tell whether a person is happy or not.
Last August, researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, studied 51 students aged 11 and 12 who had over five hours’ screen time every day. Their task was to tell the emotions of 48 pictures of faces that were happy, sad, angry or scared.
The children made an average of 14.02 mistakes at the beginning. But after a five-day camp without electronic (电子的) products, they made only 9.41 mistakes on average.
Luckily, people still have a chance to get these abilities back. You should try to keep your parents’ numbers in mind for emergencies. You should also pay more attention to street signs and stores, which will help you to draw a mind map and stop you from getting lost. And the easiest solution to social skill loss is to take a break from electronic products.
32. The underlined sentence in the second paragraph implies that ______.
A. you are able to turn to others for help.
B. others are able to call you anytime and anywhere.
C. others are unable to get in touch with you by smartphone.
D. you are unable to contact others without your smartphone.
33. Overusing smartphones, people will probably ______.
A. have no sense of numbers.
B. fail to find their destination.
C. lose face-to-face communication skills.
D. weaken their senses of hearing and sight.
34. The experiment shows that without electronic products, one could ______.
A. recognize more facial expressions correctly. B. lose the sense of direction frequently.
C. tell different emotions immediately. D. tell more pictures of faces easily.
35. What’s the writer’s attitude towards electronic products?
A. Uncaring. B. Critical. C. Supportive. D. Optimistic.

Lisa woke up on Saturday morning very excited. Today she was turning 10. She thought her mother would make her a special breakfast. Last year on her birthday, Lisa woke up to the smell of pancakes and sausage cooking. The kitchen table was full of fresh fruit and juice, and her family had even bought lots of fresh flowers to put on the table.
But when she went downstairs this morning, her father, mother and brother were eating cereal (麦片) at the table, just like any other day. No one even said “Happy birthday”.
When the phone rang and her mother announced that Lisa’s aunt wanted to speak with her, she knew that it must be to wish her the best on her 10th birthday. But to Lisa’s surprise, her aunt simply wanted to remind her to pick up her mail the next week while her aunt was out of town.
Lisa was quite confused. She thought that her family would say something about her special day, but she didn’t want to seem upset. She tried to be cheerful. After all, she was looking forward to meeting her friends in the park soon. Surely they were going to be excited about her birthday.
When Lisa arrived at the park, her friend Jane was the first to greet her. “Nice day, isn’t it, Lisa?” she asked. Lisa, ready for her friend to wish her a happy birthday, responded excitedly, “Yes, it is! It’s a great day. You know why?” “Because it’s Saturday and the weather is great!” Jane replied. Lisa nodded, but looked down in disappointment.
Soon the rest of her friends arrived, and they all had a good time playing soccer and spending time together. But Lisa couldn’t help but think that it was strange that none of them had mentioned her birthday.
As she walked home in the late afternoon sun, Lisa tried her best not to cry. How could everyone forget her birthday? She was close to tears by the time she reached her home.
When she walked in, she was quite surprised.
