Doing housework is a part of family life. Some parents refuse to let kids do housework to make them enjoy more playtime. Others teach kids to do housework to make kids become independent. Then here comes the question: ________ My answer is yes and the following are my reasons.
Doing housework teaches kids life skills. Many of the life skills are things that teachers do not teach, so it’s even more important for kids to learn to do housework.
Doing housework makes kids learn to take on responsibilities (责任) and gain independence (独立). Living with their parents, they should know that everyone in the family should do their part in keeping the house clean. As long as kids can do things by themselves, they won’t always ask their parents for help.
Doing housework helps kids understand their parents better. When parents do the housework, most kids think it’s easy. Unless kids try some housework themselves, they won’t know how hard their parents are. However, giving them housework may help this insight come quickly.
Doing housework helps improve kids’ planning skills. When kids have schoolwork, housework and free time activities in a day, they need to decide what to do first. This way, they will improve their planning skills.
It’s true that studies are important to kids, but it doesn’t mean that kids need to spend all the time on their studies. At different ages, there is some housework that is right for kids. If they can do it, it will be good for their development.
11. Which of the following can be put in “________”?
A. Should children help with housework?
B. Why is playtime important to kids?
C. Is it hard to teach kids to do housework?
12. What does the underlined word “insight” mean?
A. question B. challenge C. understanding
13. If kids help do housework, they can ________ according to the passage.
① learn life skills
② become independent
③ make their parents understand them better
④ make their planning skills better
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④
14. Which is the right structure of the passage?
A. B. C.
15. Which of the following does the writer agree with?
A. Doing housework is more important to kids than studies.
B. The earlier kids do housework, the better it is for them.
C. Doing right housework at different ages is good for kids.

Many people like going on vacation. It’s a good chance to relax, visit new places and see new things. But while planning a trip, you have to decide whether you want to travel with family or friends, or just alone.
Traveling with family can be very cheap or even free if parents pay. However, there may be many arguments. One friend told me that both she and her sister were in tears after arguing on vacation. In my family, Dad always wants to go to a museum. Mom would like to stay in the hotel. My sister likes to buy clothes. As for me, the coffee shop is a great place.
Traveling with friends would be fun. When you are traveling with friends, you can do more different things than you do with family. It is a way to strengthen a friendship. You can learn more about your friends. You can become closer to each other. But money always plays an important role if you go on vacation with your friends. It is normal for you to have different budgets (预算).What’s more, there is also a lot of compromise (妥协) while you’re planning where to stay and what to eat.
When it comes to choosing whom to travel with, there is another choice: traveling alone. Traveling alone has advantages (优点). For example, you do not have to compromise on your budget. You can choose what you want to do, and it’s easier for you to make new friends.
________ Sometimes you may feel lonely. And, when you want to go to the toilet at the bus station or airport, there is nobody to look after your things.
16. What decision do you have to make while you are planning a trip?
A. Where to stay. B. How to plan. C. Who to go with.
17. What does the writer’s sister usually like to do during her trip?
A. To enjoy a cup of coffee. B. To stay in the hotel. C. To go shopping.
18. The underlined word “strengthen” in Paragraph 3 means ________ in English.
A. test B. improve C. start
19. What is an advantage of traveling alone according to the passage?
A. You can save more money easily.
B. You have to follow others’ plans.
C. You can decide what to do by yourself.
20. Which of the following sentences can be filled in the blank?
A. Of course, traveling alone is not always good.
B. Here are some tips for traveling alone.
C. If you travel alone, you have to take care of yourself.
D
Men and women often do things in different ways. Scientists are curious to know the reasons. Through some research on the human brain, they’ve discovered some interesting facts.
Generally, women’s brains make them notice and remember details more easily. They are more likely to think back to the smell in a room, the sound of a song, or the little things they see during the day. For example, a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week. However, men’s brains are more focused on the task at hand. A man will pay more attention to a single job until it’s fully finished. He might work on fixing a car without being influenced by other things.
These different thinking patterns also influence how they view their lives. Women usually see all sides of their lives as connected. If they have a bad day at work, it might influence their mood at home. However, men usually see each part of their lives, like work, hobbies, and family, as separate pieces.
In a team, men and women contribute differently. Women are more likely to share ideas and build good relationships among team members. Men, on the other hand, prefer to arrange tasks and make everyone work effectively.
Although men and women have their differences, both ways of thinking are important. They help us solve different problems and answer all kinds of questions in life.
21. What does the underlined word “curious” mean in Paragraph 1?
A. Interested. B. Happy. C. Surprised.
22. What do men usually do in group tasks?
A. Build good relationships.
B. Finish tasks with the least time.
C. Hand out tasks and ensure good work.
23. Why does the writer mention “a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week” in Paragraph 2?
A. To show women are better at dressing up than men.
B. To prove women have a better memory for small details.
C. To compare women’s and men’s work abilities.
24. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To show men and women are totally different.
B. To explain why men and women think differently.
C. To show the thinking differences between men and women.
25. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Men’s way of thinking is better than women’s.
B. We need both men’s and women’s ways of thinking to live better.
C. Men and women can’t work together well because of their different thinking.

Many families live busy lives. Every week, the children have homework, sports, music lessons and club activities. The parents are busy too. They work, do the housework, cook meals and drive their children to take part in activities. Some families do not have time to eat meals together more than once a week. Our community (社区) decided that it was time to take a break.
After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the “family night”. It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.
On the “family night”, we decided to turn off our televisions. “We also decided not to answer the phone,” answering machines said. “Please call back tomorrow.” Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn’t need to spend time cooking.
There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance to spend time together. Children and parents weren’t so busy, and children didn’t spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the “family night”, families relaxed and spent the evening together. We hope to have more “family nights”.
