Unit 6 Enjoy the festivals
Lesson 5 (Hit it big)
I. Teaching Aims
1.Students will be able to ask and answer questions about Spring Festival plans using the sentence pattern “Will you…? Yes, I will. / No, I won’t.”
2.Students will be able to conduct a simple survey and record the results using check marks.
3.Students will be able to read and report basic data from a survey table using sentences like “Six students will visit their family.”
II. Key and Difficult Points
Key Points: - Mastering the general question structure “Will you…?” and its short answers. - Completing a survey and reading numbers correctly in English.
Difficult Points: - Using the correct auxiliary verb “will” in both questions and answers. - Turning survey data into complete spoken sentences for the class report.
III. Teaching Tools
· Textbook (Pages 70-71)
· Survey worksheet
· Blackboard and chalk
· Flashcards of festival activities
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm-up and Review
The teacher greets the class and shows flashcards of Spring Festival activities (putting up lanterns, lion dance, etc.). The teacher asks, “What do we do at the Spring Festival?” to activate students’ prior knowledge. Then, the teacher writes “Will you…?” on the blackboard and leads a quick drill with the whole class. Purpose: To review festival vocabulary and introduce the target sentence structure.
Step 2: Presentation and Practice (Activity 1 & 2)
The teacher points to Activity 1 on Page 70 and explains the survey task. The teacher models the dialogue with a student: “Will you put up lanterns?” “Yes, I will.” Students work in groups of four to ask their group members the questions and tick the boxes in the table. The teacher walks around to check pronunciation and spelling. Purpose: To practice the target language in a communicative context and complete the survey task.
Step 3: Data Processing (Activity 3)
Students look at Activity 3 on Page 71. The teacher asks students to count the check marks from their group survey and write the numbers in the summary table. The teacher checks the answers with the whole class, asking, “How many students will put up lanterns?” Students answer, “Five students.” Purpose: To integrate math skills with English learning and practice reading numbers.
Step 4: Reporting (Activity 4)
The teacher invites a few students to stand up and show their survey results to the class. The teacher provides the sentence frame on the blackboard: “______ students will ______ at the Spring Festival.” Students practice saying the full sentence based on their data. Purpose: To develop students’ speaking confidence and ability to report simple information.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
The teacher summarizes the key sentence pattern and praises the students’ group work. For homework, students are asked to ask their parents: “Will you cook a big dinner at the Spring Festival?” and write down the answer. Purpose: To consolidate learning and extend the language use to real life.
V. Blackboard Design
Unit 6 Enjoy the festivals (Period 5)
Will you put up lanterns? Yes, I will. / No, I won’t.
Survey Report: Six students will visit their family. Five students will eat dumplings.
六、教学反思
部分基础薄弱的学生在将调查数据转化为完整句子时容易遗漏主语或动词,下次课可以增加同桌互说的环节,让他们在汇报前有更多开口练习的机会,同时教师应多给予句型支架的提示。
