Unit 6 Enjoy the festivals
— Lesson 2 (In Focus)
I. Teaching Aims
1.Students will be able to listen, speak, read and use the key sentences: “I’m going to make meat mooncakes for the tigers.”, “They will be very big!”, and “They love our mooncakes!”
2.Students will be able to understand the listening text in Activity 3 and correctly write “✓” or “X” based on the audio.
3.Students will be able to talk about their favourite festival and how they are going to celebrate it using the sentence pattern “I’m going to…” in pairs.
4.Students will develop a deeper interest in traditional Chinese festivals and learn to share their festival plans with others.
II. Key and Difficult Points
Key points: Mastering the core vocabulary and the sentence structure “be going to + verb” for expressing future plans. Understanding the listening material in Activity 3.
Difficult points: Using the target language fluently in real communication, especially when talking about their own favourite festivals and specific celebration plans in Activity 4.
III. Teaching Tools
Multimedia courseware, audio player, flashcards of mooncakes and lanterns, and a printed worksheet for Activity 3.
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm-up and Lead-in (5 min) Greet the class and ask students a simple question: “What did you do during the last holiday?” Let a few students share their answers. Then, show some pictures of the Mid-Autumn Festival on the screen, like the full moon and mooncakes, to introduce today’s topic: Enjoy the festivals.
Purpose: To activate students’ background knowledge and quickly draw their attention to the topic of the lesson.
Step 2: Presentation and Practice (10 min) Show the picture from the textbook on page 65. Ask students what they can see. Present the new sentences: “I’m going to make meat mooncakes for the tigers.” and “They will be very big!” Read after the teacher, then practice in groups. Point to the tigers in the picture and say, “They love our mooncakes!” Have students read the sentences together with proper emotion.
Purpose: To introduce the new language in a visual context and help students understand the meaning and pronunciation through repetition.
Step 3: Listening Practice (10 min) Tell students to open their books to Activity 3. Play the audio once and ask them to just listen. Play it a second time and ask them to write “✓” or “X” for the five statements. After that, check the answers together as a class and ask some students to explain why an answer is wrong.
Purpose: To train students’ listening skills and check their understanding of the text in a specific context.
Step 4: Pair Work (10 min) Move to Activity 4. Show the dialogue example on the screen and practice it with a student. Then, ask students to work in pairs to talk about their own favourite festivals. Walk around the classroom to offer help if needed. Invite two or three pairs to perform their dialogues in front of the class.
Purpose: To provide a chance for students to use the target language in a real situation and improve their speaking ability.
Step 5: Summary and Homework (5 min) Summarize the key sentences and the phrase “be going to” with the whole class. For homework, ask students to draw a picture of their plan for the next festival and write one or two sentences under it using what they learned today.
Purpose: To consolidate what they have learned in class and extend the learning to their personal lives.
V. Blackboard Design

六、教学反思
本节课整体流程顺畅,学生参与听力与对话练习的积极性较高。但在Pair Work环节,部分基础较弱的学生对“be going to”句型的运用仍不够熟练,容易卡壳。下次教学时,可在对话练习前增加一个简短的句型替换操练,并提供更多词汇支架,帮助后进生更自信地开口表达。
