Unit 5 Look into the future Lesson 1 (Start up ) I. Teaching Aims 1. To understand the dialogue between Daming and his dad about a robot. 2. To use 'will' to talk about what things will do in the future. 3. To share ideas about future life and robots. 4. To develop reading skills: read for main idea and specific information. II. Key and Difficult Points Key points: (1) Vocabulary: robot, chore, pet, free time, keep an eye on... (2) Sentence pattern: What will it do? / It will... / Will it...? Yes, it will. / No, it won't. Difficult points: (1) Use 'will' correctly to ask and answer questions about the future. (2) Understand the dialogue and choose the right answers. III. Teaching Tools PPT, robot pictures, word cards, textbook, audio, worksheet IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Lead-in (5 mins) Show pictures of robots. Ask: "Do you like robots? What can robots do?" Let students share their ideas freely. [Purpose] To activate students' prior knowledge and lead in the topic naturally. Step 2 Presentation (10 mins) Show the picture on page 50. Ask students to look and choose: "What will the future be like?" (make 3-D printed food / live on Mars). Introduce the dialogue. Play the audio. Ask: "What is Daming's dad making?" Students listen and answer. Read the dialogue together. Underline new words: robot, chore, pet, free time, keep an eye on. [Purpose] To present new vocabulary and sentence patterns in context. Step 3 Practice (10 mins) Read and answer (page 52): Q1: What will this robot do? Q2: What is Daming's dad making? Read again and choose (page 52): What will the robot do? a. It will do the chores. b. It will take care of pets. c. It will play games and do sport with us. d. It will do our homework. Students read individually, then check answers in pairs. [Purpose] To train reading skills: reading for main idea and specific information. Step 4 Production (10 mins) Work in pairs. Ask and answer about a robot: A: What will your robot do? B: It will... A: Will it do our chores? B: Yes, it will. / No, it won't. Some pairs share their dialogue with the class. [Purpose] To practice the target language in a communicative way. Step 5 Summary & Homework (5 mins) Summary: Review the key sentence patterns. Ask: "What will robots do in the future?" Homework: Draw a robot and write 3 sentences about what it will do. e.g. My robot will... [Purpose] To consolidate what students have learned and extend to real life. V.
