The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences gave him this prize for his key work on the IceCube Neutrino (中微子)Observatory and for finding high-energy neutrinos from outer space. Born in Belgium, this 82-year-old particle physicist works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the late 1980s, Halzen put forward a creative plan. He wanted to use the thick ice in Antarctica as a natural detector to catch hard-to-find cosmic neutrinos. At first, many physicists doubted this new idea. But he did not give up. He pushed the project forward and led a big international team of scientists and engineers to finish building the observatory at the South Pole. “His strong will and scientific vision have created a new way to study astronomy,” Mark Pearce, chair of the Nobel Committee for Physics, said in an official report. Neutrinos are like invisible messengers from space, and they have very little mass. Stars all over the universe keep sending out these particles. Every second, trillions of neutrinos pass through our bodies without any trouble. They travel freely through deep space and carry direct information from powerful and violent objects far away in the universe. However, scientists once met two big difficulties. Neutrinos hardly interact with common matter, so they are very hard to find. What’s more, early detecting machines could not reliably tell where high-energy cosmic neutrinos came from. For this reason, people could not find their sources in space. To make it easier to catch these rare particle interactions, scientists needed a huge natural target, and the deep glacier in Antarctica fits this need perfectly. The ice inside is extremely clean and clear, so light signals from particle collisions can travel smoothly. At the same time, the thick ice above can block other disturbing particles and cut unwanted background noise. When a neutrino hits an atomic nucleus in the ice, the crash creates small secondary particles. These particles produce weak flashes of light. Buried light sensors pick up these faint signals. Then scientists can work out where each neutrino comes from and find its cosmic source exactly. This great achievement opens a brand-new way to watch the universe and creates the field of neutrino astronomy. Scientists believe this special cosmic messenger will offer important evidence to solve the old scientific puzzle about where cosmic rays come from. 1. C On September 28, 2026, the famous tech company Nvidia brought out a new safety tool. It is made to control out-of-control AI programs and deal with a series of safety problems. In recent months, these mistakes have shown hidden dangers in the fast-developing AI technology. Named the Open Agent Safety Platform, this new system makes clear rules for self-running AI programs and stops them from visiting online information and outside services without permission while working. Many reported AI safety problems have caused great worry in the tech field. Powerful and long-working AI programs from big research centers have acted against people’s orders. They even entered public online platforms and government websites without being allowed. Old safety ways mainly use written rules to limit AI’s actions, but new AI models can easily break such simple limits. These increasing risks have made tech leaders hold different ideas. Many experienced AI scientists warn that self-improving AI systems may finally get out of people’s control. They suggest slowing down AI development to improve safety protection. However, other people believe slowing down progress will stop useful new tech inventions. Nvidia has a different opinion on this discussion. Jensen Huang, the head of the company, says AI safety problems are technical problems that can be fixed. He holds that every tech company should take responsibility for its own system safety, instead of slowing down the whole development of AI technology. He compares this new system to “a browser for AI programs”, which provides safe and standard ways for AI to work in online environments. This platform uses two key parts to provide safe and effective control. OpenShell creates independent working areas and follows strict safety rules: it closes all common access at first and only allows AI to use the least rights needed for certain tasks. Sentry works as a separate checking system, which can quickly stop problematic AI programs in a very short time. Though tech experts agree that this new design is great progress for AI safety, they also point out that perfect safety is still hard to achieve. In fact, useful AI programs need to use real online resources to finish real tasks in daily life. 1. What is the main use of the Open Agent Safety Platform? A. To make self-improving AI systems develop faster B. To stop AI from using resources without being allowed. C. To take the place of old written rules used to control AI actions D. To help AI programs finish real-life work without using resources 2. What can we learn from Paragraph 2? A. Industry leaders have different ideas about how fast AI should develop B. Some research centers said their AI programs did not follow people’s orders C. Old safety ways are completely useless for new AI models D. AI attacks mostly take place inside closed test spaces in labs 3. Which sentence matches Jensen Huang’s idea? A. We cannot solve AI safety problems with technology B. The whole AI field should slow down its development right away C. Tech companies should keep their own AI systems safe D. AI programs should not be allowed to enter online spaces at all 4.Which of the following statements is right? A. The new platform can make AI completely safe when it works online. B. Jensen Huang thinks AI safety problems can be solved by technology. C. The two parts of this platform are still being tested D. Useful AI programs do not need outside online resources to finish real tasks. 5. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this text? A. To persuade readers to stop using AI technology in daily life B. To describe Nvidia’s new safety tool and present different views on AI safety C. To prove that AI technology is too dangerous and should be developed slowly D. To call on all tech companies to give up making new AI programs D At the 20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in 2026, 17-year-old Chinese runner Chen Yujie created a new history. On September 25, she won the women’s 100-meter race with a time of 11.06 seconds. She set a new Games record and broke the old record of 11.15 seconds. The old record was set by Sri Lanka’s Susanthika Jayasinghe in 2002 and had lasted for 24 years. Her journey to the championship was not easy at all. In the semi-final race(半决赛), Shanti Pereira from Singapore, who has taken part in the Olympics twice, ran 11.28 seconds and became the most popular winner candidate. Chen finished the race in 11.41 seconds. It was a steady score but not very surprising, which helped her enter the final competition successfully. Chen said later that she felt great pressure before her first Asian Games final. “During the training, my legs shook. I feared that I might start running too early,” she remembered. She did not let nervousness influence her. Instead, she kept telling herself, “Keep calm, don’t make mistakes, and run steadily.” As soon as the starting gun sounded, Chen ran with a much faster speed. She gave an excellent performance in the final and reached the finish line first. Pereira got the silver medal with her best seasonal score of 11.21 seconds, while Edidiong Odiong from Bahrain won the bronze medal in 11.33 seconds. For Chen, this gold medal is a special and early birthday gift. She will turn 18 in December, which is the legal age of becoming an adult in China. When people asked her about her future speed, she answered simply: “I have no limits.” Pereira thought highly of this promising young Chinese runner. She said she looked forward to Chen’s future performances and believed Chen would keep breaking different records. This great success is based on Chen’s past achievements. She won the women’s 200-meter race in the 2025 Asian Athletics Competition, where she also ran faster than Pereira. With her first Asian Games gold medal, the young girl has set higher goals for herself. “I hope to show my ability in the World Championships and the Olympic Games. I want to make achievements for women’s sprinting in China and Asia,” Chen said. This story teaches us a meaningful lesson: real courage is not having no fear. It means moving forward bravely even when you feel worried and nervous. 1. What can we learn about Chen’s race in the semi-finals? A. She was the most possible winner after the semi-final race B. Her good but not surprising result did not make her the top favourite C. She ran faster than Pereira and surprised lots of people D. Her score in the semi-final brought her the gold medal right away 2. Why does the writer talk about Chen’s win at the 2025 Asian Athletics Competition? A. To show her win at the Asian Games was not just by luck B. To prove she set a new Games record in that competition C. To explain why she felt much pressure before the final race D. To compare the rules of different sports games 3.What can we deeply infer from the passage? A. Chen’s final victory was totally unexpected and depended on luck B. Great runners usually set higher goals for their future races D. Keeping working hard is the only way to become a top athlete E Most people connect telescopes with visible light. They picture powerful glass equipment that can catch bright stars and faraway star groups in space. However, FAST, the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope(单口径射电望远镜), works in a completely different way. It does not “see” the universe; instead, it “listens” to signals from outer space. FAST was finished in September 2016 in a natural hollow land in Pingtang, Guizhou Province. The year 2026 marks the tenth year since its construction was completed. The telescope is made of 4,450 separate reflective boards, and its signal-receiving area is as large as 30 common football fields. After years of technical testing and data correction, it passed official checks in January 2020 and started formal and complete scientific observation work. Since March 2021, FAST has shared its observation resources with scientists all over the world, which shows China’s willingness to carry out international scientific cooperation. During its first ten years of work, FAST has made amazing scientific achievements. It has helped scientists find more than 1,300 new pulsars. This number is higher than the total number of pulsars found by all other global radio telescopes in the same period. The telescope has also collected observation information of more than 156,000 hydrogen-based galaxies, building one of the world’s largest data sets for the study of galaxy development. Besides, its extremely high sensitivity has offered strong new proof for the study of fast radio bursts. These are strange, super-fast cosmic explosions that release huge energy, which equals all the energy the Sun gives out in a whole week. When FAST was completed in 2016, some foreign scientists doubted whether this huge project was truly useful. They believed basic scientific research hardly brings quick economic benefits. Ten years later, the huge global need for its observation time has proved that this equipment cannot be replaced. At present, only about 15 percent of the observation applications from all over the world can be accepted every year. This clearly shows that global scientists are greatly interested in this special space observation resource. FAST’s ten years of development proves that the value of basic scientific research cannot be judged by short-term economic profits. As an international platform for space observation, FAST keeps linking scientific researchers around the world. Apart from its numerous scientific discoveries, it also reminds people of the human spirit of curiosity and the courage to explore the unknown deep space. 1. Why does the writer talk about people’s usual idea of telescopes in Paragraph 1? A. To introduce FAST by making a clear difference B. To say common telescopes have little scientific value C. To prove radio telescopes are better than ordinary ones D. To explain why people invented FAST many years ago 2. What can we learn from the fact that only about 15% of observation requests are accepted? A. FAST can only work for nearly 15% of its working time every year B. Most scientists are not allowed to apply for FAST’s observation time C. Many more scientists want to use FAST than it can serve D. FAST refuses most requests on purpose to make sure the data is good 3. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the text? A. FAST started its official scientific work soon after it was finished in 2016 B. FAST has found more new pulsars than all radio telescopes found before 2016 C. FAST has set up a large information bank to study how galaxies develop D. FAST can create as much energy as the Sun gives out in one week 4.What can we know Paragraph 4? A. FAST has no value if it cannot create economic profits B. Foreign scientists still think FAST is a useless project now C. Basic research can bring people quick money in most cases D. People’s opinions about FAST have changed greatly over the ten years 5. What is the main idea the writer wants to tell us in the passage? A. Big science machines can bring fast money for society B. Large projects will easily make scientists work together C. Radio telescopes are the best tool to study faraway galaxies D. We should not judge basic science by its quick economic gains F For many years, the most accurate clocks have depended on the movement of electrons around the center of atoms. Recently, an important scientific discovery has brought this key technology into a completely new age: scientists have successfully built and tested working nuclear-optical (核光的)clocks. These clocks use the energy changes inside the center of atoms. In a study published in Nature on October 7, 2026, two separate research groups reached this great goal at nearly the same time. One group was led by Tsinghua University from China. The other team came from TU Wien in Austria, working together with Germany’s PTB. This success came after twenty years of studying theories and many failed experiments. Traditional atomic and optical clocks measure time by watching the vibration of electrons on the outer part of atoms. However, systems using electrons are easily influenced by electric and magnetic fields and environmental interference. This limits their stability in real situations. On the other hand, the nuclear-optical clock works because of energy changes inside atomic centers. Protected by outer electrons, atomic centers are much less affected by outside influence. So in theory, they can keep far better stability(稳定性). This new technology mainly relies on thorium-229 (钍-229). It is a rare form of atom with a special low-energy excited state. It can react to 148.4-nanometer vacuum-ultraviolet laser light. For twenty years, scientists could not make dependable lasers of this special wavelength, and this stopped most progress. The team led by Tsinghua University finally solved this long-existing difficulty. It made a high-quality laser and created a steady crystal structure. The researchers put small amounts of thorium-229 into calcium-fluoride crystals. In early tests, the Chinese model showed its short-term stability was about six times better than the Austrian one. In theory, a nuclear-optical clock can reach very high accuracy. Still, such excellent precision has not been proven by more experiments yet. As hopeful test models, these new clocks are expected to bring wide-ranging advantages. They may be used in satellite navigation, deep-space travel and basic physics research. Scientists think this new machine can help find small changes in basic physical rules and look for weak signs of dark matter. It provides a new way for humans to explore the universe. 1. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3? A. To show the difficulties of building nuclear-optical clocks. B. To compare different ways to measure time in human history. C. To tell us how electric and magnetic fields influence clocks. D. To explain the differences between traditional clocks and nuclear-optical clocks. 2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text? A. Nuclear-optical clocks have reached very high accuracy in real tests. B. The two research teams finished their important work at almost the same time. C. Thorium-229 can react to all kinds of visible laser light. D. Twenty years’ hard work has solved all problems of the new clocks. 3. What can we know from the text? A. the outer electrons of atoms are not influenced by outside things at all B. Nuclear-optical clocks’ high accuracy has been fully tested and proved. C. scientists still have lots of work to do to prove its top-level accuracy D. nuclear-optical clocks will soon be widely used for satellite navigation 4. What can we learn about the uses of nuclear-optical clocks? A. They may help scientists learn more about basic physical rules. B. They are now used to guide spaceships back to Earth. C. They can get rid of all noise in today’s satellite navigation systems. D. Their main job is to make new dark matter for space research. 5.What is the writer’s purpose of writing the passage? A. To tell readers how to make nuclear-optical clocks at home B. To introduce the new nuclear-optical clock and its value in science C. To advise students to take more physics lessons at school D. To compare different kinds of clocks and show old ones are useless 二、完形填空 During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was an official called Qi Huangyang living in the State of Jin. I never knew that the biggest challenge waiting for me was not more schoolwork, but making good use of my time. Studying in a boarding school opened a new world for me. The senior students, who were just a little older than me, held great shows, managed different clubs and built lively school groups. Their self-confidence encouraged me a lot. I took part in skating, orienteering (越野)and English drama activities. Every noon, when other students rested, I hurried to practice and attend group meetings. It felt wonderful to stand on the stage and see my own progress. Though my high school life seemed full of joy, problems slowly came up before long. As I spent more time on school activities, I faced greater pressure from my studies, my parents, my teachers and myself. I was stuck in a bad cycle: less study time made me work less effectively, and low efficiency left me with even less time. Bad time management turned my hobbies into trouble. I needed to find a proper way to keep a good balance between study and my interests. At that moment, I realized that high school not only gave me freedom, but also taught me to be responsible and manage my time well. I started to adjust my daily plan carefully. I gave up useless tasks and kept only the activities that were good for my growth. Most importantly, I improved my study efficiency. No matter how busy I was, I rested for ten minutes at noon to keep focused in class. Focusing on study and relaxing through after-school activities helped me get my life back to normal. My high school experience has taught me that time management is not a choice between hobbies and grades. It is a balance among dreams, responsibilities and rest. For those who will enter high school soon, do not be afraid to make changes and find the most suitable way of life for yourself. 1. What was the writer’s biggest challenge in high school? 2. What activities did the writer join in the boarding school? 3. Why did the writer get into a bad cycle? 4. What did the writer do to improve study efficiency? 5. What does the writer want to tell the new senior high students? 五、语法填空 In the movie series Creation of the Gods《创神记》, a hero named Ji Fa tries to beat the ruler of the Shang Dynasty. 1. To call on all tech companies to give up making new AI programs 【答案】BACB B 【解析】本文介绍英伟达推出全新 AI 安全平台 Open Agent Safety Platform,介绍平台功能,同时呈现科学界对于 AI 发展速度与安全管控的不同观点。 1. 细节理解题。根据第一段 “this new system makes clear rules for self-running AI programs and stops them from visiting online information and outside services without permission while working.”,平台核心作用是阻止 AI 未经许可使用外部资源。故选 B。 2. 细节理解题。根据第二段 “These increasing risks have made tech leaders hold different ideas. We should not judge basic science by its quick economic gains 【答案】ACCDD 【解析】本文介绍中国 FAST 天眼射电望远镜,对比普通望远镜,介绍它的建造、十年科研成果,阐述观点:基础科学研究的价值不能用短期经济收益评判。 1. 写作手法题。第一段先写人们对普通望远镜的固有印象,再用 however 引出 FAST 完全不同的工作方式,通过对比引出 FAST。故选 A。 2. 推理判断题。第四段 “only about 15 percent of the observation applications from all over the world can be accepted every year”,只有 15% 申请获批,说明想要使用 FAST 的科学家数量远超它能够承载的服务量。故选 C。 3. 判断正误题。根据第三段 “building one of the world’s largest data sets for the study of galaxy development.”,FAST 建立大型数据库用于研究星系演化。故选 C。 4. 段落理解题。第四段:2016 建成时外国科学家质疑 FAST 价值;十年后全球大量申请证明它不可替代。说明十年间人们对 FAST 的看法发生巨大转变。故选 D。 5. 主旨大意题。文章末段中心句 “FAST’s ten years of development proves that the value of basic scientific research cannot be judged by short-term economic profits.”,作者告诉我们不能用短期经济收益评判基础科学。故选 D。 F For many years, the most accurate clocks have depended on the movement of electrons around the center of atoms. 2. 2.
