As language learners, it's important to use dictionaries. Paper dictionaries are often great choices for us. They lead us to think in a more exact way. However, with the rapid development of the Internet, many websites and apps offer us information about the language we are learning, so some language learners like online dictionaries better. Here is what some students think of the two kinds of dictionaries.
Lin Tao,

I like to look up something in a paper dictionary better. Its explanations(解释)are clear so that I can understand them better. I don't think some online dictionaries are believable. There are many incorrect usages which can make us confused(困惑的).
Wang Lan.
15
If we are not good at remembering English words, we can look up their meanings online very soon. It helps us finish reading the English articles more smoothly(流畅地). If we are good language learners, we can always learn more in a shorter time with an online dictionary. It saves much time.

Most people can't remember their first two or three years of life. Scientists call this “infant amnesia(婴儿期遗忘)”. But new studies show that babies actually start making memories right after birth, and this is more interesting than we thought.
New babies can know their mother's face just days after birth. By three months old, they remember people they see often like their parents and smile more to them. Some studies even show babies may remember songs they heard before they were born!
So why do these early memories go away? Scientists found several reasons. First, babies need to learn about themselves. In a test, scientists put a red mark on a baby's nose. Babies under 18 months don't understand the mark is on them, but older babies will touch their own nose.
Words also help with memory. Before age two, children can't use words to talk about what happens, so it's harder to remember later. Another reason is that the part of the brain for memory isn't fully ready in babies.
This memory loss might be good. Forgetting early things could help babies learn more important things as they grow. Scientists still have questions, but one thing is sure-our brains start working hard from the very beginning!

You visit a park one day and someone nearly knocks into you while riding his bike. You feel like you have experienced this similar event before. Has this happened to you? This strange feeling is known as “déjà vu(似曾相识)”.
How can we explain this feeling? Scientists have tried to use virtual reality(虚拟现实) technology to reproduce(再现)it. In one study, scientists used the video game to study déjà vu. For example, they put the small trees in the game's virtual garden together with dustbins (垃圾箱). When players looked at the garden, they experienced a sense of déjà vu.
Scientists think déjà vu might be explained as a simple failure of memory. We see something that looks similar to something we've seen before, but our brains fail to find the exact memory. However, the brain still can sense a kind of familiarity(熟悉感).
Epilepsy (癫痫), a brain disease that can happen suddenly, is believed to be an example of déjà vu. People with epilepsy often experience unusual feelings similar to déjà vu.
Should we be worried when we experience déjà vu? As long as it doesn't affect your daily life, researchers think there is no need to worry. In fact, some scientists believe that it may be helpful. They believe déjà vu could show that our memories are working well. This theory also explains why younger people are more likely to experience it, as their brains are still growing.
