From a young age, I collected role models. In school, as a teenager, I tried to channel Beyoncé. In the working world, I paid close attention to our female senior managers. By watching and copying others — especially women of color who looked or sounded like me — I gained confidence in my own abilities.
But when I started my own company, my pool of potential role models became smaller. Only 2.1% of risk investment goes to women-founded companies. “Who could I look up to?” I wondered. “Who can I emulate?” I decided to create an inspiration wall in my office, with photos of the role models I could see — women like Oprah, Melinda, and Vicky, cofounder of a skincare brand. I never thought I’d meet these women, but their success gave me hope.
Then one day, a couple of years ago, I surprised myself with a thought: what if I did reach out to one of my role models? I feared rejection, but my desire for connection was stronger. I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me. I didn’t have her email address. So I tried a cold Instagram message, and she responded the next day!
That was in 2022. We’ve spoken numerous times since, and the conversations have been invaluable. They’re rare chances to gain guidance from a successful woman. But here’s the most valuable lesson I gained: when Vicky first replied to me, I wasn’t the only one excited. Vicky was excited too—because she’s always looking for ways to support other women. All my life, I’d thought of role models as a one-way relationship: I’d gain strength from someone stronger. But the situation is more than that.
I once sent Vicky a care package from my sunglasses company. She wrote me a thank-you note, and texted a selfie of her and her daughter wearing my products. Today, I keep that letter on my desk next to my keyboard — a reminder that, just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We’re all here to help each other grow.
24. Why did the author create an inspiration wall in her office?
A. To encourage herself to work hard.
B. To inspire her employees’ creativity.
C. To make her workplace more attractive.
D. To improve her employees’ work efficiency.
25. Why did the author choose to reach out to Vicky?
A. She only had Vicky’s email address.
B. She feared for being rejected by others.
C. Vicky’s story had always motivated her.
D. Vicky liked giving guidance to other women.
26. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Creative and patient. B. Talented and capable.
C. Honest and responsible. D. Courageous and thankful.
27. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Still water runs deep.
B. Strength Flows Both ways.
C. A Good Beginning Is Half Done.
D. Actions Speak Louder Than Words.
C
For a long time, scientists believed that true language belonged only to humans. But this idea is now being challenged by new discoveries. When a researcher saw a cuttlefish making specific signs with its arms in response to another cuttlefish on video, it suggested that these animals might be using a special kind of sign language to communicate. This finding is just one of many that are changing our understanding of the animal kingdom.
The biggest factor in this new age of discovery is Artificial Intelligence (Al). AI allows scientists to analyze huge amounts of data from animal sounds and actions. By processing these numerous data, AI can find complex patterns that the human ear or eye would easily miss. This has given researchers a powerful new tool to decode(破译)the hidden meanings in animal communication, raising the exciting possibility that we might one day “talk” with animals.
Remarkable discoveries are already being made. For example, one research team studying bottlenose dolphins found they do more than just make random(任意的)noises. Each dolphin has a unique "signature whistle," which acts like a name. They also use other specific calls. One whistle, for example, is used when they are curious about something new, almost as if they are asking, “What was that?” Another seems to be clear warning signal. This suggests a level of communication far more complex than we thought before.
While it is a huge challenge to fully understand these animal languages, the effort is worthwhile. Analyzing the code of animal communication could completely change how we see the world and other species. Perhaps we could learn what it is like to communicate with echoes(回声)like a dolphin, or with colors like a cuttlefish. More importantly, understanding the intelligence and rich social lives of animals will certainly increase our respect for them and our connection to the natural world.
28. What is challenging the traditional view on language?
A. Deeper study of human speech. B. The old opinion in animal abilities.
C. The rapid development of AI tools. D. New evidence of animal communication.
29. How does AI contribute to decoding animal messages?
A. It talks with the animals directly. B. It generates numerous animal data.
C. It uncovers some hidden patterns. D. It reproduces animal calls and sounds.
30. What does the study on dolphins suggest?
A. Their sounds carry specific meanings. B. Their vocal patterns are almost random.
C. They are smarter than other species. D. They can use human communication.
31. What is author’s attitude towards analyzing animal languages?
A. Doubtful B. Supportive C. Unconcerned D. Disapproving
D
Fishing tools that are thrown away are a serious danger to ocean life. These “ghost nets” continue to catch and kill animals even after being thrown away by fishermen. They either float in the water or sit on the seabed, causing great harm to sea wildlife.
The problem is highlighted by a single net found in Puget Sound in 2009. Within just six months, it had already caught over 450 salmon, 1,300 sharks, 1,800 birds, 16,900 crabs, and 11 seals. Scientists believe that 10 to 30 percent of all business fishing tools are lost or thrown away every year. This means countless nets remain in the ocean, killing sea animals nonstop.
However, an important program called Fishing for Energy is working to deal with it. It brings together several organizations, including Covanta Energy Company and the National Fish and Wildlife Organization. Since 2008, they have successfully taken away nearly four million pounds of lost fishing tools from the ocean.
Collecting lost fishing tools is a difficult task. It requires finding the tools underwater, pulling them up, and bringing them to coast. To make it easier, Fishing for Energy has set up collection sites at ports in nine states. They give free boxes where fishermen can put the retrieved tools. The program also offers prizes to fishermen who take away fishing waste from the sea and provides them with free educational programs.
Once collected, the tools are recycled to make power for locals. Any metal parts made of materials like gold, silver or iron are taken away, and the materials left are turned into energy at special factories. The program has grown rapidly. It started with one disposal site (垃圾处理场) in Massachusetts in 2008 and now has 55 sites across twelve states. Fishermen are developing new ways to find more tools, and local groups are giving money to workshops to find better solutions. Additionally, the program supports the development of new technology that makes fish-catching tools stop working after a certain period, as required by law.
32. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. The ghost nets around Puget Sound caught 11 seals in total in 2009.
B. The problem caused by ghost nets is less serious than people imagine.
C. A large number of sea animals die because of ghost nets every year.
D. The ghost nets have covered around 20% of business fishing nets so far.
33. What does the underlined word “retrieved” in paragraph 4 most likely mean?
A. Used. B. Collected. C. Repaired. D. Bought.
34. What do we know about the “Fishing for Energy” program?
A. It helps local people to get more power.
B. It has 56 waste treatment places in total.
C. It requires fishermen to buy the collection boxes.
D. It provides fishermen with new fishing techniques.
35. Which of the following is the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Ghost Nets: The Silent Killer for Sea Animals
B. Fishing for Energy: A Project for Producing Power
C. Ghost Nets: The Huge Treasure for Power Production
D. Fishing for Energy: A Program for Saving Ocean Life

When we learn a language, the goal is often to be able to have conversations with other people. But here’s a question that a lot of people ask online: Does reading help us with our speaking skill?
Speaking, like writing, is an active skill, because you’re producing something when you speak and write. _____36 _That’s because you’re receiving the information and trying to understand it. It’s obvious that written language is quite different from spoken language. For this reason, some learners believe reading won’t have much of an effect on their speaking skills. 37
But many other learners see reading as an important part of their language journey. A study of English learners in Bangladesh found 80% thought that reading had improved their speaking skills. 38 And experts say this is one of the most important things. Reading can add words to our vocabulary, and show us how words and grammar are used in context.
39 Teachers often divide reading into two types: extensive reading and intensive reading(精读). The goal of extensive reading is enjoyment, so it doesn’t matter if you don’t understand every word. When engaging in extensive reading, students usually choose the stories or books they want to read. 40 They choose stories or texts(文章) that may be used for achieving particular language-learning goals. Research has shown that both types of reading can be really useful in helping students speak better by improving their fluency, vocabulary and understanding.
A.They say that reading isn’t very useful.
B.Intensive reading may be led by teachers.
C.Reading and listening are totally different.
D.Reading can help improve your speaking skills.
E.Teachers are of great importance in English learning.

G.And 75% said it had improved their imagination or enlarged their vocabulary.

The Power of Help
In a small town lives a young boy, Jack. Jack is 12, and he seems to have a happy family. His father is an IT engineer, and his mother is a doctor. They are busy working every day and ask Jack to do everything on his own. Therefore, Jack always stays at home alone after school. Over time, he does everything alone, no smile on his face.
One sunny afternoon, Jack sat alone on the bus ride home from school. All his friends were discussing their class projects excitedly, but Jack remained silent. How could they understand his feelings when their parents would help them? His parents worked all the time. So they had no time for him.
When the bus stopped, he got off the bus. He didn’t go straight home. Jack was walking through the park, disappointed. As he walked in the park, he saw an elderly man sitting alone on a bench, enjoying the sunlight. Jack walked to the man and sat on the bench with shoulders slumped (低垂).
“You don’t look okay,” the old man said gently, breaking the silence, “Is there something I can do to help?” Jack looked up, surprised by the unexpected kindness. He smiled slightly and shook his head. “No, thank you, sir. I’m just thinking about something.” The old man offered a warm smile. “It’s okay to feel lost sometimes. I’m here if you need to talk.”
The old man continued to speak. His name was Mr. Smith, and he had a happy family and he also had a grandson just like Jack. The old man always had a walk in the park... After hearing Mr. Smith’s story, Jack slowly explained they should do a class project for the weekend and together they would build something with an adult. The students needed to make a report to explain how their projects had gone.
Mr. Smith listened quietly and said “why are you so unhappy?” Jack felt his sadness and anger rising inside him. “Because I don’t have anyone to help me.” He sounded so sad and so angry.

Text 10
When Anthony Joshua was in year nine, he set a new record for his school by running one hundred meters in just eleven point six seconds. “I like challenging myself,” he said. Twenty years on, Joshua is one of the world’s best boxers. His big wins include two titles and a gold medal for Team GB (the British Olympic team) at the twenty twelve Olympics. In twenty eighteen, he was awarded an Order of the British Empire to be a special order (OBE) from the Queen for his services to sport. During the Easter holidays, Josie, a 9-year-old reader of The Week Junior, interviewed the heavyweight boxer. They talked about the school. “I had many friends at school,” he told Josie. His favourite subject was PE — he was really good at football and athletics. He always showed great courage and tried his best to protect and help others. “I can’t stand seeing unfair things or people being treated badly,” he recalled. Finally Josie asked what advice Joshua would give to readers of The Week Junior. “Always put your hand up first in class,” he said. “Being smart is really cool, so keep on reading and try to be the top students in school.”

第一节
A
D 22. C 23. B
根据文中“The recent exhibition Echoes of the Tsars (until December 2025) features 120 rarely displayed items: Royal Treasures: Golden Fabergé eggs and king’s clothing.”
Rules: No flash photography;Backpacks must be checked; No Food / drinks in galleries。PS: Wheelchair parking and guides are provided。
B
A 25. C 26. D 27. B
根据第二段中“I decided to create an inspiration wall in my office, with photos of the role models I could see — women like Oprah, Melinda, and Vicky, cofounder of a skincare brand. I never thought I’d meet these women, but their success gave me hope.(我决定在我的办公室里建一面灵感墙,上面挂着我能看到的榜样的照片——像奥普拉、梅琳达和一个护肤品牌的联合创始人Vicky这样的女性。 故选A。
根据第三年段中“I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me.(我选择了Vicky,她的经历一直激励着我)”可知,作者选择联系Vicky是因为Vicky的故事一直激励着作者。
根据第三段中“I feared rejection, but my desire for connection was stronger. I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me.(我害怕被拒绝,但我对联系的渴望更强烈。我选择了Vicky,她的经历一直激励着我)”和最后一段中“Today, I keep that letter on my desk next to my keyboard — a reminder that, just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We’re all here to help each other grow.(今天,我把那封信放在我的桌子上,就在我的键盘旁边——提醒我,就像我相信她一样,她也相信我)”可知,作者勇敢且心怀感恩。
根据全文内容,结合第四段中“All my life, I’d thought of role models as a one-way relationship: I’d gain strength from someone stronger. But the situation is more than that.(在我的一生中,我一直认为榜样是一种单向关系:我从更强大的人那里获得力量。
C
D 29. C 30. A 31. B
原文首段明确传统观点为“true language belonged only to humans”(真正的语言仅属于人类),而挑战该观点的关键信息是“this idea is now being challenged by new discoveries”(这一观点正被新发现挑战)。
原文第二段聚焦AI的作用,关键句为“AI can find complex patterns that the human ear or eye would easily miss”(AI能发现人类感官易忽略的复杂模式)。
开篇明确“the effort is worthwhile”(这项努力是值得的),直接体现正面认可;后续阐述分析的积极意义,如“change how we see the world”(改变对世界的认知)、“increase our respect for animals and connection to nature”(增强对动物的尊重与自然的联系),进一步强化支持立场。 “Doubtful(怀疑的)”“Unconcerned(不关心的)”“Disapproving(反对的)”
D
C 33. B 34. A 35. D
根据第二段“Scientists believe that 10 to 30 percent of all business fishing tools are lost or thrown away every year. This means countless nets remain in the ocean, killing sea animals nonstop.(科学家认为,每年有10%到30%的商业渔具丢失或被丢弃。
根据第四段“Collecting lost fishing tools is a difficult task. It requires finding the tools underwater, pulling them up, and bringing them to coast. To make it easier, Fishing for Energy has set up collection sites at ports in nine states. They give free boxes where fishermen can put the retrieved tools.
根据第五段“Once collected, the tools are recycled to make power for locals.(一旦收集起来,这些工具就会被回收利用,为当地人提供电力)”可知,Fishing for Energy项目帮助当地人获得更多的电力。故选A项。
36. C 解析 上文指出说和写是主动技能,因为你在说和写时会产出内容;根据下文中的“That’s because you’re receiving the information and trying to understand it.” C项(读和听是完全不同的)中的Reading and listening与下文的receiving the information相呼应,且totally different与上文的an active skill形成对比,引出被动技能读和听。故选C项。
A项(他们说阅读不是很有用)中的They指代上文的some learners,且isn’t very useful与上文的won’t have much of an effect相呼应,总结了这类学习者的消极态度。故选A项。
F项(有不同种类的阅读,每种都提供不同的益处)能够概括本段内容,其中的different kinds of reading与下文的“two types: extensive reading and intensive reading”相呼应,且different benefits与后文对泛读、精读的优势的阐述相呼应。故选F项。

50. A.curious 好奇的;B.confident 自信的;C.fluent 流利的;D.content 满足的。根据下文“Her shy nature was slowly lost, replaced by a growing sense of confidence.”

53. A.refused 拒绝;B.planned 计划;C.agreed 同意;D.competed 竞争。根据上文“This experience made her more 10.”可知,旅行的经历让Alice更加自信,再结合上文speak up more in class可知,Alice变得主动,空前的even表示递进关系,“计划邀请同学”是主动社交的体现,plan to do sth意为“计划做某事”,符合语境。
54. A.walked 走路;B.studied 学习,研究;C.communicated 交流;D.played 玩耍。根据上文speak up more in class和invite her classmates to study together可知,这些都是“与他人交流”的行为,且communicate with sb意为“与某人交流”,符合“从害羞到主动社交”的转变逻辑。
55. A.difficult 困难的;B.trouble 麻烦;C.typical 典型的;D.comfort 舒适。
56. to celebrate
57. were held
the lanterns与decorate是被动关系,表示灯笼“被装饰”,用过去分词作后置定语,相当于定语从句which were decorated,故填decorated。
60. making
【解析】固定短语show interest in…,等同于be interested in,意为“对……
64. Although/Though/While 考察让步状语从句的引导词。
英语中,此处需用让步状语从句引导词Although/Though/While,注意:Although/Though/While不能和but连用。
65. warmth
One possible version
Dear Chris,
Knowing that you are troubled by spending too much time on short videos and suffering from low study efficiency, I’m writing to show my sincere concern.
It is common for teenagers to be attracted by online videos, so you don’t have to feel upset. Here are some practical suggestions. First, you’d better set a fixed time limit for such entertainment. Besides, you can replace meaningless browsing(浏览) with beneficial hobbies like reading and sports, which can calm your mind. Most importantly, focus more on your schoolwork and arrange your spare time wisely.
I firmly believe you can balance study and entertainment well. Wish you all the best!
Yours,
Li Hua
The old man raised his eyebrows, “Can I help you?” he asked gently. Jack froze. “You’d build a project with me, Sir?” “Sure, I would,” the old man said. Jack’s heart seemed so light that he thought it would float away. He opened the schoolbag and took out his assignment paper. Then, they studied the assignment and made a list of ideas. Finally, they decided to build a cardboard robot from old pencil box and some paper. They used glue, ruler and eraser. Mr. Smith helped a lot and he even found a box of stickers on the ground. When they finished all project and Jack looked at their robot, Jack couldn’t stop smiling.
A week later, Jack won the prize in his class project and ran to the park with the prize. He knew he could see Mr. Smith in the park. As expected, he found the old man still sitting on the bench. Jack ran to the old man and presented the prize to him as soon as quickly. “Thank you for your help, sir!” Jack said excitedly, “Look, the prize that the teacher gave me.” “You are the best, boy!” Mr. Smith said gladly. A warm smile returned to Jack’s face.
