As a child,Danielle Belleny's love for nature led her to wildlife biology.Growing up,Danielle Belleny was
always outdoors, picking up insects and investigating the animal world on her own.She hadn't yet heard of wildlife
biology, but that's what she was learning about. She wanted to be a vet,a person who can treat sick or injured
animals,at first. She said,"I always knew I wanted to work with animals, and as a kid, that was the only job I knew
where I could do that."But when Belleny was in college, her dad advised her to leam wildlife biology instead of
veterinary(普医学).
Later,Belleny started working on research projects. One project involved placing trackers on a bird called the
northern bobwhite. For another, she spent time feeding goats,as a way to protect a grass habitat for endangered box
turtles without hurting them.
Belleny's current job at Plateau Land and Wildlife Management lets her split her time between the indoors and
outdoors. It also lets her work with people."In the mornings,I'm usually out the door before sunrise,"she says.
She observes birds, keeping track of different species. And she searches for signs of what other animals in the area
are doing.Around lunchtime, she'll return home and write up a report. In the afternoon, she leaves for another site
visit. She advises people on how to protect the wildlife that lives on their farm. Her work takes her all around
Texas.
Outside of work, young Belleny has been bird-watching for seven years. Her first book This Is a Book for
People Who Love Birds was published in May,2022.Now she's working on a children's book about birding,
which is scheduled to come out in spring 2024.Belleny has some advice for young people thinking about careers.
"Try everything you're interested in through books and libraries. If you're into wildlife biology,go to a library and
find some field guides. After learning mueh infurmation, you can do research work more easily".
24.What did Belleny want to do at the very beginning!
A.Protecting wildlife.B.Watching birds daily.C.Working as a vet.
D.Looking after goats.
25.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about concerning Belleny?

"One person's rubbish is another's jet fuel()?"Though surprising, researchers at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign claim to have developed a method to transform food waste into jet fuel.Their findings,
published in Nature Communications, show the resulting fuel can be used directly in aircraft and meets all industry
standards for conventional(常规的)jet fuel.
This proof of concept offers new hope for aviation (to reach its net-zero carbon emission(goal in
three decades.“In a linear(线性的)economy,we just produce something,use it and throw it away,”noted
Professor Yuanhui Zhang."Here,we recover energy and materials from waste to make a usable product, filling a
key gap in the circular economy."
The United States Environmental Protection Agency revealed transportation accounted for 29%of U.S.
greenhouse gas emissions in 2022,with commercial aviation making up 7%.While battery-powered airplanes are
possible for some shorter flights, they simply lack energy for long-distance travel. Some data suggest that
Sustainable Aviation Fuel(SAF)extracted(提取)from biomass(生物量)can reduce emissions by up to80%
compared to conventional jet fuel, but its application has long been unattainable(难以达到的)due to poor
chemical components.
Food waste addresses this issue. In this new experiment, the team collected food waste from nearby processing
plants. They then used a chemical process called hydrothermal liquefaction including removing salt, ash and water
and applying catalytic hydrotreating(催化加氢s处理)to removing other undesirable elements such as oxygen and
nitrogen. As a result, the new aviation fuels passed screening tests by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Theoretically,it can power commercial airplanes.
While the technology is proven pragmatic, expanding its application to meet the fuel demands of entire
passenger aircraft remains challenging, requiring time, resources, and investment."Our research solves the
scientific and engineering problems, and then the industry can step in,"Zhang said.
28.What is the importance of the findings?
A.They offer a more effective way to deal with food waste.
B.They provide a new way to achieve aviation's carbon goal.
C.They help aircraft companies save a lot of money on fuel.
D.They turn the linear economy into a circular economy worldwide.
29.What can we learn from paragraph 3?
A-Battery-powered airplanes are suitable for longer flights.
B.SAF extracted from biomass has been put into wide use.
C.Conventional jet fuel is less environmentally friendly.
D.The main reason for US air pollution is commercial aviation.
30.How is the experiment described in paragraph 4?
A.By procedural steps.
B.In time order.
C.Through cause and effect.
D.With comparisons and examples.
1.What does the word "pragmatic"probably mean in paragraph 5?
A.Plain.
B.Theoretical.
C.Complex.
D.Practical.

When Brandon Contino and co-founder Dan Chi were developing Four Growers'produce-harvesting robots,
they practically lived in a greenhouse for an entire year."We actually started just running everything off a laptop,
and I would be there in the row coding.Chi would be making changes mechanically,"Contino, now CEO,told
TechCrunch.
The result was Four Growers, which builds robots designed to autonomously harvest plants in greenhouses.
The robots are programmed to identify produce at the right level of ripeness-which varies depending on a
farmer's needs-by using multiple stereo cameras to see the crops and help operate the robot's arms to avoid
nonripe fruit on the vine. The tech currently works with tomatoes and will be commercially available to harvest
other crops like cucumbers in the near future.
Having enough labor to harvest crops is crucial because if crops can't be harvested when they are ready, they
rot and result in lost profits for the farm. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture's 2024 labor
report said the industry is facing a"critical shortage"of workers, and it won't get better anytime soon.
Contino said they were intentional about focusing on greenhouse farms.Unlike outdoor farms, greenhouses
can grow almost all year round, and are more efficient than outside farms. They also harvest on a much more
frequent schedule than outdoor farms, which makes them a good candidate to buy tech.
Four Growers now works with five customers, and its robots have picked millions of tomatoes.Contino said
that the company is working to expand its technology beyond just harvesting and is looking to expand into outdoor
farms in the coming years.“Tt's not really a labor replacement. It's more of an augmentation(增强),”Contino said.
"As the labor force shrinks, and there are fewer people willing to do it,it's putting them to more comfortable
positions and allowing one person to be able to do a lot more."
32.What are the cameras used to do in the greenhouse?
Take pictures for the ripe fruit.
B.Identify crops'maturity.
C.Monitor the surroundings.
D.Distinguish tomatoes from other plants.
33.Why does the author mention the 2024 labor report in paragraph 3?
A.To express concem about the farm profits.
B.To stress the necessity of harvesting robots.
C.To show the achievements of Four Growers
D.To call for public support for the farm industry.
34.According to Contino, what makes greenhouse farms a better target for Four Growers?
A.Higher harvesting frequency.
B.Greener than outside farms.
C.A greater number of consumers.
D.Awider range of crops.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Autonomous Tech is Coming to Farming.
B.Seed for a Farm's Future-Farm Management.
C.Four Growers Robots Help Greenhouse Harvest.
D.Labor Shortages and Farmer Adaptation Strategies.

started as occasional phone checks has evolved into overall device dependency that follows families right to their
dining table.
Remember when meals meant storytelling, laughter, and actual eye contact?
Before smartphones existed, families naturally gathered around the dining tame to share their day, discuss
plans.and enjoy each other's company.
Research shows that the average American family spends less than 20 minutes eating dinner together,
with much of that time spent interacting with screens. The cell phone transformed from a communication tool into
a dining companion.38 Unlike real conversation, screens demand attention without giving anything
meaningful back to the family dynamic.
The physical health consequences are equally concerning.Mindless eating becomes the norm when attention
splits hetween food and screens.People eat faster, chew less, and often consume more calories without realizing
it.3
Creating a phone-free zone can transform food time from a rushed obligation into genuine family time that
everyone looks forward to.When screens disappear from the table, something magical happens:People start
noticing each other again.40 Even the food tastes better when everyone is fully engaged in what they're
eating.
A.Frankly,it's not great company.
B.Fhrose days weren't that long ago.
C.That dinner wasn't unique,and that's the problem.
D.Dinner conversations teach children essential skills.
E.fechnology has slowly but surely entered our dining spaces.
F.Conversations flow more naturally and laughter comes more easily.
u.Thishabit contributes to poor digestion and unhealthy eating patterns.

Carlos,a music teacher, was preparing a dance for the school show, whose theme was spring.
Every afternoon, the music room was filled with laughter and the light thud of little feet.Carlos
taught the students movements that celebrated the season. He loved watching them bounce, spin, and leap to the
rhythm. The room was alive with energy, alive with motion, alive with spring.
But there was something that weighed on his heart.A girl named Luna always sat quietly in the corner.Carlos
knew that Luna had difficulty walking. Her legs did not move like those of the other children.
Day after day,he saw her sitting there, and each time he felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He noticed the way
her eyes followed the other children as they moved across the floor. There was longing in those eyes-a quiet,
painful wish to be one of them.He wanted to include her.But how?The dance had been built around movements
Luna could not do.
Then one afternoon,Carlos was demonstrating a new set of steps.Soft music drifted through the room-a
gentle tune about spring, about tiny green shoots pushing through the cold earth. The students followed along,
pretending to be seeds waking from winter sleep.
Carlos turned around to check on their progress. That was when he saw Luna. She was still sitting in her
corner, but her small hands were moving gently in the air.Her fingers opened like tender leaves unfolding. They
reached upward like a young plant searching for sunlight after a long winter. Her upper body swayed (
slightly, like a small tree bending in a soft spring breeze.
She was not just watching. She was dancing with her hands-a small, quiet dance of spring,of life beginning
again. She looked like a tiny tree, still delicate, yet already reaching for the light. Her fingers trembled like new
leaves, fragile in the cold air,yet brave enough to appear.
