Students can correctly use "and", "because" or "but" to complete sentences about friendship. 3. Students can talk about their best friend(s) using the target sentence patterns. 4. Difficult points: • Distinguish when to use "and", "because" or "but" in context • Use complete sentences with conjunctions instead of saying words one by one III. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in (5 mins) [Purpose] Activate students' prior knowledge about friends and review key words from Period 1. 1. Greet students and show pictures of Duoduo and Tutu. Ask: "Do you remember Duoduo and Tutu? What happened to them last time?" 2. Tell the story continues: "Tutu asks Duoduo to join them but Duoduo just walks away." Show the picture and ask: "Why does Duoduo walk away?" 3. Show the sentence starter on PPT: "I have two best friends... He/She is... We like to ___ together." 2. Ss work in groups of four. Each one talks about his/her best friend using at least two sentences with "and" or "because". 3. Invite 2-3 groups to share with the class. Step 4 Summary and Homework (5 mins) [Purpose] Summarize the lesson and assign meaningful homework. 1. Summary: Ask students to say one thing they learned today about "and", "because" and "but". Write the summary on the blackboard. 2. Homework: - Write 4-5 sentences about your best friend using "and", "because" and "but". - Read the passage about Duoduo's friends to your parents. V.
