On March 14, maths and science lovers around the world celebrated a special day: Pi Day. Pi is equal (等于) to about 3.14, but the number goes on endlessly. It is sometimes written in Greek, π. Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14, since how we write this date, 3/14, looks just like the number pi.
For some people, the attraction of Pi Day goes far beyond (超越) maths and science. Pi shows up throughout popular culture. You can see it in movies, comics, music and more. “In modern movies, any time the filmmakers want to create a sense of mystery, for example, a sign on the door for characters to explore, often the symbol pi is used,” said the writer of The Joy of Pi.
People also love trying to memorize the digits (位数) of pi and competing against others to see who can remember the most. Most teachers hold class competitions to see how many numbers their students can memorize. The Guinness World Record for reciting the most digits of pi is held by Lu Chao of China, who successfully recited pi to nearly 67,890 decimal places
Above all, Pi Day is about having fun with the number. People celebrate Pi Day by eating or throwing pie and with fun pi-related games and activities. In 2016, Princeton, New Jersey, held a birthday party for Albert Einstein whose birthday also falls on March 14. There was also a “Walk a Pi Event” where people walked 3.14 miles together. Just like the number itself, the possibilities for Pi Day are truly endless.
25. Why do people celebrate Pi Day on March 14?
A. Because 3.14 means endless. B. Because it’s a Greek tradition.
C. Because the date looks like pi. D. Because pi was found on that day.
26. What does the underlined word “mystery” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Alarm. B. Challenge. C. Pleasure. D. Secret.
27. When people celebrate Pi Day, they may feel ________.
A. crazy B. cheerful C. surprised D. nervous
28. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Doing sports on Pi Day. B. Fun activities on Pi Day.
C. Albert Einstein and Pi Day. D. Great expectations for Pi Day.
C 26. D 27. B 28. B

第二段中“mystery”所在句为“In modern movies, any time the filmmakers want to create a sense of mystery”,结合后文“a sign on the door for characters to explore”可知此处表示创作者想要营造一种“神秘感”,因此“mystery”意为“secret”。
第四段指出“Pi Day is about having fun with the number. People celebrate Pi Day by eating or throwing pie and with fun pi-related games and activities.”,说明人们在庆祝圆周率日时充满乐趣,因此心情是“cheerful”。

根据后文“waiting for her leg to become well again”可知,奶奶摔断的是腿,leg“腿”符合语境,arm“胳膊”、back“背部”、head“头部”均和后文的“等待腿康复”的细节不匹配。

If you count the number of digits (数字) in your mobile phone number, you can notice that it has 11 digits. Sometimes you may find it hard ____51____ (remember) your number. How can you remember it ____52____ (clear)?
The 11 digits can be divided ____53____ three parts. Each part has a different ____54____ (mean). The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service provider you are using. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications Corporation (中国移动) and 130 is for China Unicom (中国联通). The ____55____ (four) to the seventh digits tell you where the number is registered (登记). And ____56____ last four digits are random (随机的).
The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the second ____57____ (large) population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population ____58____ (grow), there were not enough numbers for us to use. ____59____ we have used 11 digits since the year 1999. Eleven digits can be used to make ____60____ (billion) of mobile phone numbers. That’s enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China.
51. to remember
52. clearly
53. into 54. meaning
55. fourth 56. the
57. largest
58. grew 59. So
60. billions
此处使用结构find it +形容词+ to do sth.,“it”作形式宾语,真正的宾语是后置的不定式结构,因此填remember的不定式形式to remember。
此处使用搭配be divided into,意为“被划分为……”,故填入into。
根据“there were not enough numbers for us to use”和“have used 11 digits”可知前后是因果关系,因此填连词So,句首首字母大写。

Dear fellow students,
Hello, everyone! Today I would like to talk about “Numbers in daily life”.
