Have you ever thought of being an actress and having to finish a show you starred in while fighting a life-threatening illness? That’s what Emilia Clarke did. You may know her for her famous role as Daenerys Targaryen from the hit TV series Game of Thrones. However, behind the scenes, Clarke had been battling against a life-threatening illness.
Just after finishing the first season of Game of Thrones, she faced a tough situation following the event of being rushed to the hospital after a workout session at the gym. Shortly afterwards, her worst fears were realized when she was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage (蛛网膜下腔出血), a disease that kills one out of three people diagnosed with it. She was immediately told that she needed to undergo surgery.
The recovery was very hard for her. She had difficulty in remembering and it came to the point where she couldn’t even remember her own name. At that point, she wanted to just end her life since she believed her life wasn’t worth anything anymore. Luckily, a month after the surgery, Clarke recovered well and was able to film for the second season of Game of Thrones.
After the third season, doctors found out that there was another brain aneurysm (动脉瘤) that needed immediate surgery. The recovery had been more painful than before, but it was a great thing that she had recovered well since then and was able to finish all eight seasons of Game of Thrones.
Just like Emilia Clarke, we all should be strong and stay positive to lead a good life in times of hardships and difficulties.
4. What was Clarke doing before the first attack of a deadly disease?
A. Seeing a doctor. B. Taking exercise.
C. Filming a TV series. D. Having an operation.
5. How did Clarke respond during the recovery period after the first surgery?

6. What happened to Clarke according to the text?
A. She underwent three operations in all. B. She suffered from a terrible accident.
C. Her family gave her support. D. She eventually recovered well from the illness.
7. What does the author try to explain through Clarke’s story?
A. Your refusal to keep trying would result in failure.
B. Your mindset would help you to achieve success.
C. Your new interest usually requires some kind of test.
D. Your ability to overcome hardships would help you succeed.
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. D 7. D

Plastic pollution is worsening rapidly across the Earth’s ecosystems and so is its threat to humanity and wildlife. Outcomes for health and the environment will be dire unless we tackle them, says a United Nations (UN) report. And the discovery of microplastics in human blood means urgent action is needed.
Researchers found tiny plastic particles, less than one-thousandth of a millimeter in size, in almost 80 percent of 22 people they tested. Such small plastics can travel through the body and stick in our vital organs. These tiny pieces could cause diseases like diabetes mellitus or cancer. Half of the blood samples contained PET plastic found in beverage bottles, food packaging, and clothing.
Common Seas, a social enterprise hoping to stop plastic pollution, is a co-founder of the study. CEO Jo Royle said, “I was shocked but not surprised. We already knew that microplastics had been found in human organs.” In fact, science estimates that oceans, lakes, and rivers will contain more than double the current amount of plastic pollution by 2030. Microplastics, caused by the breakdown of larger pieces, have spread throughout the natural world — from the polar ice caps to Mount Qomolangma. We inhale them, eat them, and drink them, and babies are being exposed to worrying levels.
“It’s clear that the best way to combat microplastic pollution and prevent health problems is to make sure they don’t enter our environment in the first place,” said Royle. “This is why we need leaders and businesses to take responsibility for plastic waste along its lifecycle.” Big brands are reducing plastic packaging and turning to alternatives. Natural products like fungi, plant materials, and even silk offer plastic alternatives, especially in food and product packaging. As the blood microplastic study suggests, that transformation must be rapid because the rate at which we absorb plastic into our bodies is faster than the rate we remove it. And that requires a planet-wide response.
8. What does the underlined word “dire” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Extremely annoying. B. Extremely frightening.
C. Extremely confusing. D. Extremely disappointing.
9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The potential harm of microplastics. B. The test data in the research.
C. The different types of microplastics. D. The exact sources of microplastics.
10. What is the goal of Common Seas?
A. To produce harmless plastic. B. To clean the oceans and rivers.
C. To prevent plastic pollution. D. To remove plastic out of human organs.
11. According to Royle, what should leaders and businesses do with plastic waste?
A. Recycle all plastic waste at low cost. B. Carry out further studies on microplastics.
C. Stop using any plastic packaging right away. D. Take responsibility throughout its whole lifecycle.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. C 11. D

New measurements show that radiation levels on the moon are two to three times higher than those on the International Space Station. The measurements were taken by an instrument on China’s Chang’e 4 lunar lander. Chinese and German scientists involved in the experiment said the Chinese lander provided the first “active” measurements of radiation levels on the surface of the moon.
The study comes as the United States and several other countries develop plans to send astronauts to explore the moon. The American space agency NASA has a goal of landing the first woman on the moon as part of its Artemis Program.
But space radiation presents major health risks to future astronauts. Cancer is the main health concern, and radiation exposure can also lead to other diseases.
Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic shield protect humans from the extreme radiation present in the universe. But astronauts aboard the International Space Station receive around 100 times the radiation that we receive on Earth. The new study suggests that radiation exposure on the moon would be 2.6 times higher than that on the International Space Station. The researchers said astronauts on the moon would get about 200 times more radiation than we experience on Earth. It is predicted that astronauts would only be able to stay on the moon for about two months under current conditions.
The researchers suggested that astronauts should build shelters made of lunar soil for protection during stays of more than a few days. They said the shelters’ walls would need to be 80 centimeters thick. A wall thicker than that, they said, could cause the soil to give off its own secondary radiation. Such radiation is created when cosmic (宇宙的) rays interact with the lunar soil.
12. What is NASA’s goal according to paragraph 2?
A. To train young astronauts. B. To prevent universe radiation.
C. To send the first female to the moon. D. To take the lead in exploring the moon.
13. What can we learn from the figures in paragraph 4?
A. The atmosphere is complicated. B. Staying on the moon is dangerous.
C. We can live on the moon one day. D. Human should stay away from radiation.
14. What should be considered seriously when building shelters on the moon?
A. The wall’s thickness. B. The wall’s shape.
C. The wall’s length. D. The wall’s height.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Moon, the Next Home of Human B. Difficulties of Living on the Moon
C. High Radiation Levels on the Moon D. America’s Moon Exploration Program
【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. C

Many people enjoy having plants inside their homes, especially when it is cold outside. But sometimes houseplants need a little help. ____16____ They show discolored leaves, and their stems droop (下垂) — or no longer stand strong or tall. And there will be little or no growth.
A good way to help renew tired houseplants is by giving them a plant “haircut.” In the gardening world, cutting back plants is called “pruning.” ____17____ Diana Alfuth is a gardening expert at the University of Wisconsin. She says pruning helps with shaping, removing dead matter, and keeping the plants from drooping. Pruning is also a way to start new plants. You can take the cuttings from pruning and grow new plants.
____18____ So is the timing of when you give them fertilizers — nutrients for growth. “Houseplants should not be fertilized during winter when days are short,” Alfuth said. “Fertilize in late winter as days get longer and plants wake up and will need fertilizer to put on growth during spring.”
Watering plants too much is a leading cause of losing houseplants. “Plants lose oxygen when they get too much water,” Pettinelli said, “especially the roots — they’ll drown.” ____19____
Check to see if your plants’ roots are overgrown in the bottom of the pot. ____20____ But be sure the pots have holes cut in the bottoms so that extra water can get out.
A. Pruning serves many needs.
B. So, be careful not to overwater.
C. A houseplant’s diet is important.
D. And they will not flower if they are hot.
E. Pruning then results in strong new growth.
F. If they are struggling, they will let you know.
G. That means you should re-pot the plant in a new, larger pot.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Li Ming was a 17-year-old exchange student from China. With a heart full of dreams and a little bit of nervousness, he flew to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure. He had always imagined what it would be like to walk through the historic streets of England and meet people from different parts of the world. But as soon as he arrived at his new school, he felt a little unsure.
In his new class, Li Ming struggled to start conversations with his British classmates. They spoke so quickly and used words and phrases he didn’t understand. When he tried to join their conversations, he felt shy about his accent and worried that he might say something wrong. He also noticed that British students seemed to value their personal space more than he was used to, which made it even harder for him to find the right moment to start a meaningful talk.
Group work was even harder. During a group project in literature class, Li Ming had trouble explaining his ideas clearly, feeling like his ideas were getting lost in translation. And he started to doubt himself.
Social events outside of class were just as difficult. At a school party, Li Ming watched his classmates laugh, dance, and sing along to the latest pop songs. He felt left out, not knowing the songs or the dance moves. He wanted to join the fun, but the fear of looking silly kept him on the sidelines.
One day, the school announced a talent show. Li Ming, who practiced traditional Chinese kung fu, really wanted to try. While he was hesitating, a group of British students interested in cultural performances invited him to join them. Li Ming agreed.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Para 2: After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Para 1:
During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu. They kept cheering loudly as he performed punches, kicks and graceful stances. They asked him to teach them basic moves, and Li Ming patiently demonstrated step by step, using simple English to explain each action’s meaning. When he struggled to express himself clearly, his new friends listened carefully and helped him find the right words. For the first time, Li Ming forgot his shyness and accent, feeling proud to share his culture. Practice became a joyful time where they learned from each other.
Para 2:
After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. Many classmates came up to him, praising his wonderful performance and asking about Chinese kung fu. Some even invited him to join their conversations and hang out after school. During group work, he dared to speak up confidently, and his ideas were well-received. He no longer felt left out; instead, he found a sense of belonging. Li Ming realized that his unique culture was a bridge to connect with others, and courage and sharing could help him fit in easily.

A. Your refusal to keep trying would result in failure.
B. Your mindset would help you to achieve success.
C. Your new interest usually requires some kind of test.
D. Your ability to overcome hardships would help you succeed.
