What makes a person inspiring? Some think it is intelligence. Others think it is money or luck. But if we look at the lives of truly great people, we usually find something simpler and stronger: they refuse to give up.
Take Helen Keller as an example. She became blind and deaf as a little child. Many people thought she would never learn to speak or read. But with the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan, Helen learned to read with her fingers, write with special tools, and even go to college. She later wrote books and traveled around the world. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing," she said.
Then think of Qian Sanqiang, a key scientist of China's atomic program. He could have stayed in a foreign lab with better conditions. Instead, he came back to a country that was still poor. Friends warned him it would be hard. He answered, "If everyone waits for perfect conditions, who will build the future?"
These stories tell us the same lesson. Inspiring people are not people who never meet difficulties. They are people who meet difficulties and still move forward. They use their time, their mind and their heart to do something meaningful.
So maybe the question is not "Who is my role model?" The better question is "What can I do today that my future self will thank me for?" Greatness does not need to wait. It can start in a classroom, in a small town, or in your own notebook.
59. According to the passage, what do truly great people usually have?
A.Money and luck.B.A refusal to give up. C.Perfect childhoods. D A good memory
60. What happened to Helen Keller when she was little?
A.She lost her sight and hearing.
B.She became a college teacher.
C.She traveled around the world alone.
D. She couldn't walk on her own.
61. Why did Qian Sanqiang return to China?
A.Because he disliked foreign food.
B.Because he wanted to help build his country's future.
C.Because he failed in foreign labs.
D. Because he wanted to look after his parents.
62. The phrase "move forward" in Paragraph 4 most probably means ______.
A.run quickly B.keep making progress C.change the subject D.lose his heart
C
How do people travel in our city today? If you ask this question, the answer will be very different from ten years ago.
In the past, most people used to ride bikes or take crowded buses to work. There were not many roads, and people often had to wait a long time at bus stops. Going across the city could take more than two hours.
Great changes have taken place since 2018. The government has built more highways and wide roads. Three new subway lines have been opened, and more are on the way. Now, it takes only about forty minutes to travel across the city. Taking the subway is cheap and convenient, so millions of people choose it every day.
New types of transport have also appeared. Shared bikes can be seen everywhere, and e-buses run quietly on the streets. What's more, e-payment makes it very easy for people to pay for their trips—just a quick scan (扫描) with your phone, and you are on your way.
Of course, there are still some problems. The streets are crowded during rush hours, and the city is trying hard to solve them. But one thing is for sure: travelling in our city has become much faster, greener and easier than before.
63. How long did it use to take people to go across the city?
A. More than two hours. B. About forty minutes. C. About ten minutes. D. Less than half an hour.
64. What makes it easy for people to pay for their trips now?
A. Shared bikes. B. The subway. C. E-payment. D. New highways.
65. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The city has built only one subway line. B. Shared bikes and e-buses are new types of transport. C. Fewer people take the subway every day. D. People still have to pay for trips with paper money.
66. The passage is mainly about ________.
A. the history of the bus system B. the problems of rush hours
C. the importance of e-payment D. the changes in city transport
D
“Everything changes, and nothing stays still.” These words, said by a great thinker long ago, still make us think today. Change is all around us: in our families, schools and hometowns. But how should we face it?
Some people are afraid of change. They worry that new things may bring them trouble. For example, some old people used to dislike e-payment because they thought it was difficult to use. But after learning it step by step, many of them have found it really convenient.
In fact, change often brings us chances . A new road may take us to a better market. A new way of learning may help us remember things more easily. When we welcome change with an open mind, we can grow with it.
Of course, not all changes are good. We should think carefully before accepting a change, just like we check the weather before a trip. The key is to keep the good things and change the bad ones.
So, the next time you see something change around you, don't be afraid. Ask yourself: What can I learn from it? How can I make it better? Remember, change is the opportunity to create a better future.
67. Why are some people afraid of change?
A. Because change makes them feel tired. B. Because they never want to learn new things.
C. Because they worry that new things may bring trouble. D. Because change happens too fast for everyone.
68. What does the writer think of change?
A. Change is always good for us. B. Change often brings us chances.
C. We should refuse all changes. D. Change only happens in big cities.
69. What is the writer's purpose in writing the passage?
A. To tell us to face change with a positive mind. B. To show us how to use e-payment.
C. To describe the history of old people. D. To teach us how to make good changes.
E
Now many students enjoy reading stories of inspiring people. Reading these stories is helpful for teenagers.
First, those people’s stories show us good qualities such as courage, hard‑working spirit. When students read how they faced failures, students can learn not to fear difficulties. Second, reading opens our eyes. We can know more about our changing world. Third, good stories can bring us power. When we feel upset, these stories can cheer us up.
But some students only read for fun. They do not think deeply. If you want to get real benefit from reading, you need to think: what can I learn from this person? What should I do in my daily life? Only in this way can reading really change you.
70. What is the advantage of reading stories of inspiring people?
A. It can make you become famous quickly. B. It helps us learn good qualities.
C. It helps you never meet difficulties. D. It brings lots of money.
71. What should we do to get real benefit from reading?
A. Read as fast as possible. B. Just read for fun.
C. Think deeply and learn from them. D. Only read short stories.
72. What is the text mainly about?
A. Why and how we read inspiring people’s stories. B. Different kinds of books for teenagers.
