I’m an English self-learner. English is not my first language, so it was not easy for me to learn it. I was a slow learner when I was little. Before five, I couldn’t even speak in full sentences. My learning problems were the result of my mother taking medicine. When she was pregnant (怀孕的) with me, she didn’t want to have any more babies. So she took medicine to end her pregnancy.
Amazingly, I survived. But the medicine influenced my early intellectual (智力的) development. When I was 13, I found myself very interested in English. I developed good habits such as reading English magazines, listening to English programmes, and keeping English diaries. In order to improve my speaking ability, I often told my friends many stories in English. I kept learning and realized that no matter how hard my situation was, I could choose to move on, rather than give up. After studying English for ten years, I successfully passed the TOEFL and decided to go to America for higher education. And now I am an English teacher.
I encourage people not to give up when they have difficulties. Give yourself one more chance to succeed. Success has less to do with IQ but more to do with hard work, faith (信念) and persistence (坚持). No matter what you are interested in, you just need to set a goal and keep working towards it. Have faith and never give up, and your hard work will pay off.
6. What is the writer now?
A. A doctor. B. A teacher. C. A painter. D. A player.

8. Why did the writer have learning problems?
A. Because she was pregnant. B. Because she had no English teacher.
C. Because her mother didn’t like her. D. Because of the medicine her mother took.
9. According to the passage, if we have difficulties when we study, what should we do?
①have faith in ourselves ②work hard
③find ways to improve our IQ ④keep on studying
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ①②④ D. ②③④
10. Which might be the best title for the passage?
A. I Am Smart, but Lazy. B. I Am Smart and Hard-working.
C. I Am Not Smart, but Hard-working. D. I Am Not Smart, but Lucky.
B 7. A 8. D 9. C 10. C

①Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure. This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
②We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can’t be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb (灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times but had learnt 10,000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
③Losing is not very disgraceful (可耻的). We must accept our failure and learn to take advantage of it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others solve problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistake in the future.
④We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer our congratulations to the winners and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.
⑤In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the beginning, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
11. What can we learn from every failure according to the passage?
A. A way of life. B. A valuable thing.
C. A general rule. D. A secret of success
12. In the writer’s eyes, why did Edison achieve success?
A. He got help from others. B. He happened to make it.
C. He avoided possible mistakes. D. He saw the bright side of losing.
13. What does the writer advise the losers to do in a competition?
A. Express the regrets. B. Forget the failure.
C. Share in the winners’ enjoyment. D. Join in another competition.
14. Which is the structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
15. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Ideas about How to Avoid Mistakes B. Experience in Dealing with Problems
C. Advice on How to Be a Good Loser D. Advantages of both Success and Failure
B 12. D 13. C 14. C 15. C

根据第四段“If we offer our congratulations to the winners and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.”,作者建议失败者向获胜者表示祝贺,“分享他们的快乐”。
第一段提出总观点:“how to be a good loser (如何成为一个好的失败者)”;第二、三、四段分别给出具体建议(不要害怕失败、从失败中学习、为赢家高兴);最后一段总结“being a good loser will help us to succeed in life (做一个好的失败者将有助于我们在生活中取得成功。)”
所以,文章的最佳标题是“Advice on How to Be a Good Loser”。

“Can you tell me something about the changes”符合逻辑。
“What was the traffic like in the past”和后文A询问现在交通的问句形成对应。
“How long does it take you to get to your school by subway”符合逻辑。
“Which subway line do you take”和答句给出的线路信息完全匹配,情景连贯。

A. A doctor. B. A teacher. C. A painter. D. A player.

A. B. C. D.
