Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, has a new rule for both parents and children. It asks parents to make sure their children spend at least two hours a week doing housework at home. It is meant to help children understand the importance of labor (劳动) work and learn useful labor skills.
The rule also asks schools to offer lessons about labor education, places for teaching labor skills, experienced teachers and tools (工具). It also says that there should be a special week for labor education, and that all schools in Changzhou should have special money for these lessons.
There is a big discussion about the new rule. Some people think it’s a good idea, but others don’t think so.
“I just have a few hours to relax every weekend, and I have little time to do housework,” Wang Xing, a middle school student in Changzhou said. “I hardly have any classmates who do housework.”
Xiong Bingqi, an expert (专家), said, “To make sure the new rule works well, parents’ participation (参与) is very important.” He advised that parents help their children learn about labor work and have their children do housework for two hours each week. He also said that parents can work with their children and make housework part of family time. This way, children may enjoy it more and learn faster.
“Some parents care too much about grades and forget to teach their children important life skills. That’s why we believe it’s necessary to help children get labor skills and learn the importance of labor work,” Xiong said. “Doing housework can make students smarter and healthier. Just being good at school isn’t enough to be successful if students don’t have other important skills.” In the future, students with strong life skills may find it easier to take care of themselves and face real-life problems.
4. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. A guide for parents to make housework fun.
B. A way for teachers to teach kids labor skills.
C. A new rule of kids’ labor education.
D. A study on kids’ weekly housework time.
5. Why doesn’t Wang Xing like the rule?
A. Because he thinks it’s not meaningful.
B. Because he is too busy to do housework.
C. Because studies are more important to him.
D. Because his classmates all don’t like it.
6. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Doing housework. B. Getting better grades.
C. Being good at school. D. Following family rules.
7. Which of the following may Xiong Bingqi agree with?
A. It is right to care about grades more than labor skills.
B. It is OK to teach kids labor skills when they grow up.
C. It is hard to be successful if kids don’t have life skills.
D. It is boring for kids to do housework for 2 hours weekly.

①People usually feel excited when they go on vacation. But most people feel blue when coming home after travelling. And this feeling is called post-vacation blues. If you feel blue after travelling, here are some ways to help you get out of this bad feeling.
②Give yourself a week to relax first. You don’t need to think about what to do next and just be relaxed. You can show your pet some love if you have one, watch your favourite TV shows or listen to relaxing music.
③After a week, do something useful and keep yourself busy. For example, when I came back from Europe, I felt blue because I didn’t have a job and was living with my parents. So I decided to find a job and make myself busy. If you don’t need a job, just try something like painting your room or tidying your house. You can also do exercise, learn to cook, visit your friends and just do anything you like.
④It’s also a good idea to make a photo book and plan your next trip. Your photos taken on vacation help you remember the good times you had. And you can plan to take another trip. Just like Elbert Hubbard said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one.”
⑤Next time when you feel blue, remember to try these ways. You’ll find going back to the normal life is not that terrible as you think.
8. Which of the following is NOT mentioned for post-vacation blues?
A. Buying a new pet. B. Painting your room.
C. Planning your next trip. D. Watching your favourite TV shows.
9. The writer uses Elbert Hubbard’s words in Paragraph 4 to show ________.
A. people feel very tired and are not willing to travel again
B. people who have just had a vacation can plan a new trip
C. people are excited to share their vacation with their friends
D. people hope to travel again because they have had only one trip
10. Which is the right structure of the passage?
A. ①②/③④/⑤ B. ①/②③/④⑤ C. ①/②③④/⑤ D. ①②/③/④⑤
11. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to spend your holiday happily. B. How to get out of post-vacation blues.
C. Why people have post-vacation blues. D. What we should do before travelling.
D
Travelling is all about meeting something new and connecting with the world around us. Virtual Reality (VR 虚拟现实技术) is changing the way we travel by mixing (混合) the real and the virtual world together.
VR travelling is a fun and exciting new way of travelling. You need to put on special glasses to see and visit places around the world, just like you are really there. Even in your own room, you can visit the Great Wall or swim with sea turtles (乌龟) anytime.
VR travelling has many benefits. It can help protect popular places against too many visitors. Places of interest like Maya Bay and Angkor Wat are using VR to provide virtual trips without harming such wonderful places. VR can also take us back to the ancient time or the outer space. It gives us experiences that would be impossible to get from books. It lets people enjoy and experience new places better, more safely and conveniently.
“VR travelling makes the impossible possible!” Emily Harper, a disabled girl, said excitedly. “It lets me visit places that my wheelchair might be hard to get to in real life”
However, some people say that VR can never take the place of real travel experiences. You cannot feel the weather, take beautiful photos with friends, enjoy the food or talk with people. Also, it can bring other problems. If people spend too much time on it, they might not want to go out with family and friends. What’s more, some of them might not be able to distinguish between the real world and the virtual world. They might think that they are the same.
Every coin has two sides. While VR travelling might sound like something from a science fiction film, it’s already happening. In the near future, more and more people will get experiences and benefits from VR travelling.
12. Why does the writer talk about Maya Bay and Angkor Wat?
A. To encourage us to go there.
B. To show how to visit these places.
C. To give an example of the benefit of VR travelling.
D. To introduce these wonderful places of interest to us.
13. What’s the meaning of the underlined word disabled in Chinese?
A. 不同的 B. 无能的 C. 残疾的 D. 内向的
14. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?
A. Some problems of VR travelling. B. Different kinds of real travel experiences.
C. The reasons why people love VR travelling. D. Ways to tell real world from virtual world.
15. What does the writer think of VR travelling?
A. It has a bright future. B. It’s bad for people.
C. It’s the best way of travelling. D. We shouldn’t use it anymore.

Many families live busy lives. Every week, the children have homework, sports, music lessons and club activities. The parents are busy too. They work, do the housework, cook meals and drive their children to take part in activities. Some families do not have time to eat meals together more than once a week. Our community (社区) decided that it was time to take a break.
After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the “family night”. It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.
On the “family night”, we decided to turn off our televisions. “We also decided not to answer the phone,” answering machines said. “Please call back tomorrow.” Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn’t need to spend time cooking.
There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance to spend time together. Children and parents weren’t so busy, and children didn’t spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the “family night”, families relaxed and spent the evening together.
