As the new term begins, let’s take a look at some interesting school publications (刊物).
Columbus is a magazine, whose name shows the place where our school lies. It helps students develop creative writing skills and is published twice yearly. Many of its excellent contributors (撰稿人) have also been honored as Scholastic Writing Awards winners.
Diversion is our language publication. Published once a year, it impresses readers with student works presented in Chinese, French, and Spanish. Working with advisors who teach these languages, student editors (编辑) help in presenting their classmates’ works, such as poems, short stories and art. Language teachers often use Diversion in their classrooms as well.
The Bruner is a yearbook. It serves the whole school and documents various aspects of our campus life. Editorial positions are named in May, giving student editors the chance to attend a two-day summer meeting at NYU. This meeting allows these editors to develop their ability to work on the yearbook before the start of the school year. Work on the yearbook begins shortly thereafter, as students work to create an impressive K-12 publication under the guidance of teachers.
The Trinity Times is the upper school newspaper. Students write, edit, photograph, and produce it as an after-school activity. Its contents include Arts and Innovation, Campus Life, NY Culture, Science, Opinion and Editorial, and Sports.

Gunner Skidmore and Kohen Chick were enjoying a typical summer morning bike ride near Fruitland, Iowa, when something caught their attention along the roadside.
As the two friends headed toward Muscatine, Kohen noticed what appeared to be someone lying in a yard. Unsure of what they were seeing, they turned around to check.
Gunner called out, “Hey, ma’am, are you OK?” The woman answered, “Yeah, I need help. Call 911.”
The boys realized it was serious. Gunner pulled out his phone and dialed 911 immediately.
While waiting for help, they stayed with the woman and learned the full story: She had been staying outside since around 5 pm the previous evening — more than 16 hours — without her phone, water, or any way to call for help.
She told them she had fallen while feeding her horse. Unable to get back up, she had rolled (滚) from the backyard to the front yard, hoping someone might see her.
The woman was taken to a hospital in Muscatine. But the kindness didn’t end here. After hearing what had happened, Gunner’s mother stayed in touch with the woman’s family and helped care for her horse by making sure it had food and water during the woman’s recovery. She also planned to welcome the woman home with a homemade meal when she was discharged from the hospital.

Would your boss ever pay you to talk to your friends? A Swedish pharmacy company, Apotek Hjärtat, is testing that by setting up a “friendcare” try-out, aiming to see whether giving workers time for friendships can improve their well-being.
Since April, the try-out has been giving 11 of its nearly 4,000 workers 15 minutes of paid time per week — or one hour a month — specifically to build friendships. They can use this time for phone calls, texting plans, or even meeting a friend in person. The company has also provided these workers with about $100 to cover activity costs during the one-year try-out.
The idea came from a previous project with a mental (精神上的) health charity, which explored how short conversations between customers and pharmacists (药剂师) could reduce loneliness. Research shows that social connections are linked to greater happiness, health, and longevity, while loneliness raises the risk of mental illness and heart disease.
In July 2025, the Swedish government put out its first national plan to fight loneliness. According to 2024 data, 6% of Swedes over 16 are frequently troubled by loneliness, 8% lack a close friend, and 13% have no one to share inner thoughts with. The plan calls for all parts of society to cooperate, and the health minister suggests that businesses should consider how loneliness affects both workers and customers.
28. What is the main purpose of the try-out?
A. To reduce labor costs.
B. To teach workers how to make friends.
C. To encourage workers to work longer hours.
D. To test if friendship time makes workers happier.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. How the try-out is carried out.
B. Why building friendship is important.
C. What value workers bring to a company.
D. How much a company spends on workers yearly.
30. What inspired the company to start the try-out?
A. Suggestions from its workers.
B. A study on pharmacist-customer talks.
C. A government plan to reduce loneliness.
D. Data about mental illness and heart disease.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Swedish people are lonelier than those in other countries.
B. Loneliness is no longer just a problem for the elderly.
C. Companies have already taken measures to reduce loneliness.
D. The government believes loneliness is a serious social problem.

Starting with brushing his teeth before 4 am, influencer Ashton Hall says he also swims, lifts weights and does much more every day before eating breakfast at around 9:30 am.
A video of his morning routine (常规) has been viewed millions of times on social media, and it has encouraged people to consider how best to start the day — although a five-hour routine might be too much for most of us!
“You don’t need to start your day with dozens of activities. It is a good idea to have a stress-free and structured morning, which could help further your energy and mood,” says Kamalyn Kaur, a UK-based psychotherapist.
Professor Shawn McClean, at The University of Oklahoma, points out in his research, that workers do better throughout the day when they complete their morning routine uninterrupted (不被打断的).
It’s hard to define what a good routine is. But some routines can do more harm than good.
“Rushing around in the morning to shower, eat and get out the door just on time is an example of a destructive (破坏性的) morning routine,” Kaur says. “People who often have hectic mornings should consider setting their alarm 30 minutes earlier. Then, make their bed, get some natural light, drink water and take a walk!”
32. What can be learned about Hall’s morning routine?
A. It is suitable for all ages.
B. It mainly focuses on brain exercise.
C. It is widely recommended by experts.
D. It is generally too long for most people to follow.
33. What is Kaur’s opinion on morning routine?
A. It should be done quickly.
B. It’s better to be organized.
C. It must be finished without interruption.
D. The more activities it includes, the better.
34. What does the underlined word “hectic” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Slow. B. Peaceful. C. Busy. D. Boring.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Why You Should Wake Up at 4 am
B. The Dangers of Sleeping Late
C. The Secret to Success
D. How to Start Your Day the Right Way

Last month, I was scrolling (滚动) through a second-hand app when I saw a camera for sale. The price was low, so I bought it without much thought. When it arrived, I was excited to try it out. But as I turned it on, I realized there was still a memory card inside. Curious, I plugged (插) it into my computer.
What I saw made my heart stop: There were hundreds of photos — birthday parties, family dinners, a little girl learning to ride a bike, an old couple holding hands in a garden and so on. These photos weren’t mine. They belonged to someone else, and they looked precious (珍贵的).
I kept scrolling, hoping to find a clue to the owner’s identity (身份). Then I found it — a graduation photo of the Class of 2015 from Greenwood University. On the back of the photo in the digital file, there was a name: Emily Chen. I knew then I had to find her.
I immediately contacted the seller, but he replied that he bought the camera along with many other used items and had no idea who the previous owner was. Then I found the school’s alumni group (校友会) on a forum and posted a message with the photo, asking if anyone knew Emily Chen.
Two days later, a reply came. A classmate of Emily Chen’s recognized (认出) her and gave me her email.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
