阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

There are apps for almost everything. Here are some of the best free apps that are well received by smartphone users.
StorySign
StorySign is designed to help deaf children learn to read. With a book in hand, just point your phone's camera at the page and an animated character in StorySign will read the page in sign language. And children will both enjoy the books and learn to read in the process. Even in its limited form, StorySign is well worth trying if you have a deaf child young enough to appreciate it, but we expect this app will keep getting better as its library grows.
PlantNet
Wherever you are, chances are there are hundreds of different plant species within walking distance, and most of us have no idea what all but the most common are called. PlantNet aims to make identifying them easier—— simply take a photo and the app will attempt to identify what kind of plant you' re seeing.
Google Photos
Google Photos stands out among hundreds of photo apps, as it gives you unlimited storage(存储) for photos and videos. But with basic editing tools and the ability to make albums, it's more than just photo and video storage. It aims to be your first and last stop after taking a picture. To achieve that, it will need a few more steps, but it's well on its way.
Soon
Soon is an app that lets you create lists of books you want to read, movies you want to watch, restaurants you want to try and more. You can select from a number of categories, including games, shops, bars, museums and TV shows and then make a list of the ones that interest you. It's a great app for anyone struggling to remember the things they want to watch, visit, read, play and listen to.

A. Any child fond of stories. B. Children with hearing loss.
C. Any child who enjoys reading. D. Children interested in sign language.

C. They both offer unlimited storage. D. They both focus on photos and videos.

Long ago, a hermit (隐士) journeyed through a lifeless desert when he discovered a cave. Tired from the journey, he entered to rest. Inside, he was amazed to see a bright light coming from a huge pile of gold coins at the cave's center. Shocked and frightened, he escaped from the cave and ran down the road as fast as he could.
Not far away, three robbers(强盗) hiding behind a rock found the hermit running hurriedly. The chief robber stopped him and asked curiously why he was running. Breathless, the hermit replied, “I am running-away from evil.” The robbers, seeing nothing behind him, laughed and insisted he show them this so-called bad thing. Though he hesitated, the hermit agreed and led them to the cave. Pointing to the gold coins, he said, “There it is. The evil is before your eyes.”
The robbers thought the hermit was mad and laughed off his warning. Delighted by their discovery, they sent the hermit on his way. Then, they began discussing how to deal with the gold. Too weak to carry it and afraid someone else might find it, they decided one of them should go and bring food from town. The third robber volunteered, secretly planning to poison the food and take the treasure for himself.
While he was away, the two remaining robbers planned to kill him upon his return and took his share of the gold. When the third robber returned with food, the others attacked and killed him. Afterward, they ate the poisoned food and died as well.
The hermit's warning came true. The gold stayed hidden, shining quietly in the cave. Outside, the winds blew over the lifeless desert. The treasure was left behind, silent and untouched, as if waiting. Perhaps it was never meant to belong to anyone —— only to show the cost of certain actions.

A. He wanted to report the discovery. B. He thought the gold was a danger.
C. He went out to ask for others’ help. D. He was afraid of the three robbers.

27. What lesson can we learn from the story?
A. It's wrong to trust strangers. B. It's dangerous to be selfish.
C. It's wise to avoid robbers. D. It's unfair to share wealth.

Experts are warning about the risks of extremely picky (挑剔的) eating after a teenager living on a diet of chips and crisps developed lasting sight loss. Eye doctors in Bristol cared for the 17-year-old after his sight had gone to the point of blindness. Tests showed he had serious vitamin deficiency(维生素缺乏). Dr. Denize Atan, who treated him at the hospital, said, “His diet was basically a portion (一份) of chips from the local fish and chip shop every day. He also used to snack on crisps and sometimes white bread and ham, and not really any fruit and vegetables.”
The teenager saw his doctor at the age of 14 because he had been feeling tired and unwell. At that time he suffered from vitamin B12 deficiency, but he did not stick with the treatment or improve his poor diet. Three years later, he was taken to the Bristol Eye Hospital because of progressive (逐渐的) sight loss.
He was not overweight or underweight, but he had lost minerals (矿物质) from his bones, which was really quite shocking for a boy of his age. In terms of his sight loss, he met the standards of being blind. “He had blind spots right in the middle of his sight,” said Dr Denize Atan,“That means he can't drive and would find it really arduous to read, watch TV or recognize faces.”
Dr Denize Atan said that parents should learn about the harm that can be caused by picky eating, and turn to experts for help. For those who are concerned, she advised, “It’s best not to be anxious about picky eating, and instead calmly introduce one or two new foods with every meal.” She said multivitamin tablets can supplement(补充)a diet, but cannot take the place of eating healthily. “It’s much better to take in vitamins through a varied and balanced diet,” she said, adding that too many certain vitamins , including vitamin A, can be harmful, “so you don't want to overdo it.”
28. What does Dr Denize Atan want to show in paragraph 1?
A. The diet of the boy is not balanced.
B. Fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins.
C. Picky eating is common among teenagers.
D. The cause of the boy's disease is unknown.
29. Why did the boy go to see his doctor at the age of 14?
A. To improve his poor diet.
B. To get some help to lose weight.
C. To be treated for his discomfort.
D. To slow down his progressive sight loss.
30. What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 3 probably mean?\
A. Important. B. Easy. C. Necessary. D. Tough.
31. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Reasons why the boy is seriously ill.
B. Suggestions for the boy's family to care for him.
C. Advice for parents worried about picky eating.
D. Ways of taking in enough vitamins and minerals.

Pinocchio may be just a children's story, but Spanish scientists at the University of Granada recently studied the so-called “Pinocchio effect” and found that our noses don't grow longer when we tell a lie, but actually get a little bit smaller.
Dr. Gómez Milán and his team developed a lie detector test(测谎仪测试) that used thermal (热成像的)cameras to tell if people were lying, and found that whenever participants (参与者) in their research were being untruthful, the temperature of their nose dropped up to 1.2℃, while the temperature of their forehead(前额) increased up to 1.5℃. They also found that drop in temperature at nose level actually caused it to become slightly smaller, although the difference could not be seen by the human eye. “One has to think in order to lie, which raises the temperature of the forehead,” Dr. Gómez Milán explained the findings. “At the same time we feel anxious, which lowers the temperature of the nose.”
For this study, researchers asked a number of 60 students to perform various tasks while being scanned by thermal cameras. One of these tasks involved making a 3-to-4-minute call to their parents, partners or friends and telling an important lie. Participants had to make up the lie themselves during the call, and the thermal cameras picked up this “opposite Pinocchio effect” caused by the changes in temperature in the nose and forehead.
Interestingly, the thermal lie detector picked up the temperature difference in 80 percent of test participants, which is a better rate of success than that of any modern lie detector used by the police. “With this method we have increased accuracy and reduce the chances of ‘false positives’, something that is frequent with other methods,” said Dr. Gómez Milán, who added that police could one day combine other lie detection technology with their technology to achieve better results.
32. Why did the temperature of the participants’ foreheads go up during the test?
A. They felt ashamed. B. They had to think hard.
C. They were scared. D. They got embarrassed.
33. What does the “opposite Pinocchio effect” refer to?
A. The temperature remains the same. B. The nose gets longer.
C. The temperature gets higher. D. The nose becomes smaller.
34. What can we learn about the research?
A. The thermal lie detector may assist the police.
B. The thermal lie detector has proven a popular one.
C. Researchers conducted the study by interviewing.
D. Researchers designed different lies for participants.
35. Which might be the best title for the text?
A. Will Lie Detectors Tell the Truth? B. Will Thermal Technology Be Reliable?
C. Will Lying Make Your Nose Longer? D. Will Lying Make Your Temperature Rise?

Are you willing to share your feelings with me?” Hesitating (犹豫) for a moment, Tom said in a low voice, “I just can't fit in here.I miss my parents and old friends so much, and it seems that I have little in common with the classmates here.”They talked for a long time that afternoon.
The next Monday, it was time for the class to change seats as usual and the headteacher asked Jack, an outgoing and helpful boy, to sit next to Tom.
